Even though Ed Lewis & Joe Stecher's 5 hour & 30 minute 1912 bout is considered the longest match in wrestling history. They only need the first two hours to tower every match ever contested under a MchMahon promotions in banner as no match in WWWF, WWF or WWE has EVER lasted longer than an hour & 30 minutes as the approximate maximum time.
This is what Tootz Mondt was talking about when he stated to Lewis & Sandow "The general public will never appreciate scientific wrestling"
Go watch a Brazillian(or Japanese) Jiu Jitsu match between two, truly talented masters in prime physical & mental condition. It's as aesthetically uneventful as a board chess match as it is a physical chess match. Even in a performance working under such psychology the wrestlers must do everything in their to make you believe the old proverb-
"The winner of any great chess match is the last man to make their first mistake."
My point being that the great days of long, grueling matches are fading. So let's appreciate them every chance we get.

Dork Funk Jr has the longest individual reign in the history of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship with 1,563 days.
Three of the top five longest reigning(in terms of longest time spent as champion over combined reigns) NWA champions won their first titles in 13 year period of 1969(Dory Jr) & 1981(flair ended Race's 6th reign that year) Harley Race is the third longest reigning all time, first winning the title in 1973.
The top five longest reigning are as follows

After Hulk Hogan won the WWF World Title at Wrestlemania 9 from Yokozuna, he did not defend it until he lost it back to Yokozuna....That in itself isnt that weird.
But he won the belt on April 4th.....and lost it June 13. Thats over 2 months without defending...or even having one singles match in the promotion.
He did tag with Beefcake for 7 matches.

Vincent Kennedy McMahon has spent 5 times the time as WWE Champion than Kane, Rey Mysterio, & Andre The Giant.
He was WWF Champion for 6 days....
This kids is why you don't book wrestling while you're stoned.

Everyone's favorites, the Nasty Boys, were amateur wrestlers, and were both trained by Verne Gagne.....they just chose a style they made more money with...clubberin' dudes.
Jim Neidhart never played a game in the NFL, contrary to what Gorilla Monsoon told us...but he did have a cousin that wrestled.
The Bulldogs were heel for a WWF match against the Can Am Connection when the WWF went to Montreal in 86.
The Main Event, from 1988, with Hogan vs Andre as the main event, is still the most watched wrestling program in television history...33 million watched it....and one of the WWF's BEST angles ever (double Hepner) imo.
Hogan fought Paul Orndorff in over double the main events than Hogan vs Piper, Andre, DiBiase and Hennig....combined.

I'm not trying to be rude, that's just an extremely specific speculation. I can understand more than Andre, but the rest of the men mentioned combined? That has to be a fairly large number.

There were 2 different matches in the last 2-3 years that broke that old record. a Jason Strife vs. ....someone match, I believe in California, went 6 hours and change. A 4 way in Ohio involving American Kickboxer 2 went like a half hour over the Strife match, specifically to break the record the Strife match had just broken.

No kidding. It seemes impossible. Just talking WWF here. He only had 3 main events with Andre, and only 12 with Piper.....Orndorff had 2 feuds with Hogan...his 86 run alone has over 40 matches. DiBiase and Hogan never went around the horn. ..neither did Hennig. Count them up on Thehistoryofwwe.com. I may be off.

The WWF title was defended twice in one night at back to back Wrestlemania's (9 and 10) both times involving Bret Hart and Yokozuna.

I found it really interesting that The British Bulldog was the only challenger to get a World title shot against the Undertaker in 1991 during his brief run with the belt. Then, almost 3 years to the day later, he was again the only challenger to get a shot at champ Bob Backlund in 1994 during HIS brief run.
Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart teamed up against the Blu Brothers in 1995.
WWF @ Glen Falls, NY - November 19, 1993 WWF World Champion Yokozuna defeated Mr. Perfect (Hennig's last WWF match until January 2002) Owen Hart defeated Sabu(?) Sabu did a job?
