In 1996 at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, Shawn Michaels retained his WWF Winged Eagle Title belt against Goldust in a ladder match. The ladder was yellow. There was pictures of it in either a WWF magazine, or a Raw Magazine in like October of 96.

That's the winged eagle, I believe OP is talking about the "big eagle" also known as the attitude era title.

Oh, so was that the only time? If so, I think it is weird since that era had a lot of extreme matches - many matches with ladders involved, but mainly with the tag titles on the line.

I believe the first ladder match in the wwf was between the IC and World champions at the time, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart. I think the world title was on the line.

It was the IC Title, Bret defended it against HBK right before SummerSlam 92. And Jeff Hardy did challenge Taker for the Undisputed Title in a ladder match, cause it was on the Ladder Match dvd.

Ah ok, I got my wires crossed. don't feel bad. By the time it was released on video, Bret was world champ and Shawn had the IC title. I'm pretty sure their Survivor Series match had already happened too.
