I'm new to the board and I collect both Jakks CS and mattel flashbacks, classics, and elites. I too have a supportive wife and she has even surprised me with figs in the past, stocking stuffers, etc. I'm very lucky. I'm a huge Rock and Curt Hennig fan and it started there. Well I guess it started when I sold my entire loose hasbro collection from when i was a kid on ebay last fall. Then I started collecting mattel and jakks.

Welcome! Always glad to see new collectors on the board. Glad to see your wife is supportive! Having a supportive significant other is always a big plus! My wife has been awesome in the past about my collection and like your's, usually has surprised me with figures as gifts or just simply 'I love you" gifts!
What are your favorite Hennig & Rock figures currently?

I'll post pics of my collection here soon. I only kept 2 figs Moc, 20-0 Undertaker and CS Mr Perfect in the black singlet with script "Mr Perfect" on the back, which he wore when he returned at 92 survivor series to team up with Savage at Richfield Coliseum. I was 9 and I was there. I know its not worth much cuz theres a bunch on ebay for like 15-30 bucks but I love it. I have the CS Perfect in orange with ic title and towel, and CS Perfect as executive consultant in a suit. I have CS Rock with mic, attitude era title, and orange/white "$500" shirt, Elite14 rock with brahma bull usa tank and mic, bald, and I have survivor series 98 heritage rock. Sorry they're loose so I forget the series numbers.

are you going to post that interview you mentioned? Yes I will be. I apologize for the delay, my email account has had some issues that I'm working out with their customer services. But I should have it up tomorrow or so. I'll make a note in the thread title when I do!

This is a mini- Interview I did via email with Jeremy about a year or so ago. This is part 1 and will post part 2 in a litle bit.
LeighD - From the start, who's idea was the CS line and how did this plan out until the actually Series 1 was given the green light?
JEREMY PADAWER - I arrived at JAKKS in August 2003. I came up with the idea in my first month on the job. I felt that the WWE line was too skewed towards children, and I believed we could expand the line by truly reaching out to the collector in a meaningful way. In addition, I always felt like WWE as a brand wasn't much different from the other major sports organizations - MLB, NBA, NFL - where classic athletes are both celebrated and merchandisable. We showed the CS #1 to retail at the October 2003 Toy Fair. Many retailers, at the time, were questioning whether to move forward with the WWE line in general. We changed their mind very quickly.
LeighD - Was there hesitation or a lot of uncertainty in selling "classic" figures and were the first few sets designed to 'test the waters"?
JEREMY PADAWER: Not with me. I was certain. I was born a fan of wrestling and a fan of collectibles. I knew it would work as a fan and a collector.
LeighD - If JAKKS had re-signed with the WWE, how many more series do you think the CS line would have lasted? (i.e. CS 35, CS 50, etc)
JEREMY PADAWER: I'm just not certain. I am forever rooting for the success of the WWE and the manufacturer of the WWE product. I wish them the best. It's a spectacular brand. Change is good sometimes.
LeighD - In 2009 Ricky Steamboat was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame. Did JAKKS ever try and sign him to have a CS figure made?
JEREMY PADAWER: We approached. In my recollection there were hurdles that were impassable at the time.
LeighD - Did the success of the CS line stay constant or did the line experience high and lows? How did the ecomonic crash in 2008 effect the line?
JEREMY PADAWER: It was a staple of the line. More important than the volume of sales was the attachment to collectors. Collectors are passionate and buy deep into a line. If we were losing money on CS, I would have still pushed forward. Collectors are everything.
LeighD - - What are your favorite figures produced from the line?
JEREMY PADAWER: CS #2 Flair, and also the Kaufman/Lawler 2-pack.
LeighD - Where do you want to see the Legends of the Ring line to go?
JEREMY PADAWER: I just wish them continued success.

Looking forward to part 2. LOTR had...no success. It's upsetting It didn't. We did get a few new fces not made in the CS line, but with NWA, TNA, & NJPW names available this line should have been an awesome sequel to the CS line.

This makes me sad. I miss the CS days. JP was awesome. He got alot of grieve from the collectors and he took on the chin like a champ. JP delivered the goods man.

I LOVE the Classic Superstars Line. I was hoping that the Legends line from Mattel wouldve given us some of the names that we didnt get from Jakks and also that the Legends from Jakks wouldve been part 2 to the Classic Superstars series but... =/
Its a shame really, because Jakks did a great job of getting alot of obscure/great names signed for figures that we may have never gotten or will never get again!
I still have hopes that one day we'll get Skinner, Nailz, Slick fom Jakks, but I see it being slim to none....Mattel could do it, but like stated above whn they stopped with the Legends Series and moved to the Flashback figures..i really dont see much more obscure names/gimmicks being pushed for that 1 or 2 spots that they'll have in the line....which is a bummer.
Your collection is amzing man, you should be proud of that!

Like the others, its such a huge bummer the line ended. I don't see why they cant make it like Matty Collector does with their DCUC stuff and just have a one day selling of them where theres a limited amount and whoever wants them gets them.

STill have various stuff to add. I do often wish the CS line had had another two or three years. I feel by that time we would have so many more names added. Unless WWE doesn't re-sign with Mattel and goes back to JAKKS (yes I know, but I can dream), I don't see too many more classic/LOTR guys being made.

Thanks for posting the first half of the interview, really looking forward to the 2nd half. I also want to thank you for not allowing your fire and passion for this line to die out.

I think more and more people will start collecting the CS line down the road. New collectors, as well as older collectors giving the CS line another look. Many sold off their collections thinking Mattel was going to "re-create" the classics with their line. After it is all said and done, Mattel won't even come close. The CS line has been and will always be my favorite line. Without Jeremy, I don't think the line would have been as great as it is/was. He had a genuine excitement and passion for the line and it truly showed. He treated it like his own line and I appreciate all the work he did. I too wish the Legends of the Ring would have taken off, but for what it's worth, I finally got a Terry Taylor figure out of that small run and for that, I am eternally greatful. It ranks as one of my top 5 figures.

While I don't fully believe we'll see too many more LOTR figures, I do feel we will eventually see Cornette and Steiner at one point.

I hope we do see that Steiner and Cornette. Especially the Cornette. I have a custom of Steiner aleady that I am more than happy with, but Cornette would be a nice display piece to add to the Midnight Express and to my NWA/WCW display.

The part that kills me is we've already seen prototypes of them so they would just need to be moved over tot he production phase. However, rights to the character may be an issue. But I don't see why they wouldn't release AJ, Joe, or ANdre that were originally in LOTR 2. I haven't forgotten the part 2 interview, I'm just having a difficult time finding it, which makes me worry that I accidentally sent it to the trash. But I may have a BIG surprise coming.

I've half given up my Mattel collection, gonna keep what I've got as I love the basic line but with them changing the packaging it was the best time to opt out and stop buying every cena, ration and reys they released.
Back to Jakks and back to classics after the Christmas period. I fell in love with the line 8 years ago, and I'm going back to it.
Suggestion,I know a lot of people still get classics and post separate threads. Should we try and post our classic receivings in this thread is to keep it going and keep it active?

I definitely think there would be more appreciation if people posted their CS buys in here. Plus it would keep the thread alive and maybe more CS/legends collectors would venture back over!
