Before the Raw opening video, Mr. McMahon is standing beside Raw General Manager, Eric Bischoff, and Smackdown General Manager, Paul Heyman. McMahon goes over the rules to both men, puts extra emphasis on the fact that anyone can be drafted. The Raw opening video plays, and following it both Eric Bischoff, and Paul Heyman are standing on the stage on separate podiums. Eric Bischoff announces that duo to a coin flip, Raw has won the right of first vote. Bischoff placed his hand in to the tambola and grabbed a ball, announcing that Raw's first draft choice is Shelton Benjamin. The cameras turn to the back where Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin look on stunned. The now split tag team hug before Shelton leaves the locker room. Shelton Benjamin def. Randy Orton via pinfall | In his first official match on Monday Night Raw, Shelton Benjamin picked up the surprising victory against the reigning Intercontinental Champion, Randy Orton. The match itself was entertaining and nicely timed for a television match. It looked as if Randy Orton was about to finish the match with the RKO, when all of a sudden a familiar, yet not heard in many years theme song hit over the PA System. Orton looked on in shock as Mick Foley made his way down to the ring, not as Mick Foley, but as the deranged hardcore, Cactus Jack. As Jack continued to make his way down the ramp with a barbed wire bat in hand, Shelton quickly rolled Orton up with the school boy and picked up the victory. Benjamin quickly escaped from the ring as Cactus Jack rolled in to it. Orton turned around and quickly dodged a swing from the barbed wire baseball bat, before starting his own attack on Jack. Orton got a few shots in but Cactus began to retaliate with his own punches, leading Orton to the corner. Orton would fall down, allowing Cactus to hit his running knee in the corner, just as Rick Flair and Batista made their way to ringside. Batista distracted Jack allowing Flair to drag Orton out of the ring. |
Following a commercial break, the cameras head back to the stage where the General Managers were standing at their respective podiums. Paul Heyman smiles after reading his draft pick and tells Bischoff that after he broke up one his his groups with World's Greatest Tag Team, it dies Heyman proud to announce the lose of a Raw group as Smackdown has drafted Rene Dupree of La Resistance. The cameras turn to the back where La Resistance look at each other confused. Rene Stands up slowly, not even looking at his team mates and leaves the locker room. Christian w/ Trish Stratus def. Chris Jericho via pinfall | The rematch from Wrestlemania XX where Trish Stratus turned her back on Jericho, aligning with Christian instead was here. The match obviously wasn't as long, and just like at 'Mania, Jericho was screwed out of a victory. During the end of the match, a ref bump occurred, though Jericho continued the momentum he had going by hitting Christian with a missile dropkick. Jericho got to his feet and immediately went to follow it up with the lionsault only for an unknown man to be standing on the apron waiting for him. The bald headed man punched Jericho, causing him to fall of the middle rope. Jericho got back up but the man was already in the ring and delivered a big boot to the face of Jericho. The referee was coming around as the man threw Christian on top of Jericho and counted the three count. |
The cameras head back to the stage where Eric Bischoff announced that he's in such a good mood tonight, no matter who is drafted next whether it be Michael Cole or The Big Show, they'll make their way down to the ring and get a World Heavyweight Title match against the champion, Chris Benoit. Bischoff chooses his ball and grins before announcing "The Japanese Buzzsaw" Tajiri. Tajiri is seen in the back jumping for joy before leaving the smackdown locker room. Heyman is about to choose his next draft pick when he is interrupted by the WWE United States Champion, John Cena. Cena gets a loud reception of cheers and raps about how he's the draft choice everyone wants and that he was going to choose Heyman's next draft pick. Heyman at first says that the choice doesn't count but is forced by Bischoff to except it. Heyman reads his draft and nearly falls to the ground in shock before announcing himself that Mr. McMahon granted a WWE Championship match tonight as well and with this draft choice the match has been made. Heyman proudly announces that tonight for the WWE Championship, Eddie Guerrero will put the belt on the line in a first time ever encounter against "The Heart Break Kid" Shawn Michaels. The crowd cheer loudly as the cameras shown Shawn Michaels grinning in the raw locker room as the raw roster look on in shock. Chris Benoit def. Tajiri to retain the World Heavyweight Championship | This would be Tajiri's first World or WWE Championship match in WWE and he certainly made the best of it with an exciting back n forth match with Chris Benoit. The two men had great chemistry with each other and the match featured a few moments when the crowd really got behind Tajiri and believed a new world champion was about to be crowned. The match eventually came to an end with Tajiri as a last resort attempting the green mist only for the champion to duck the blinding liquid, and hook Tajiri's legs, locking in the Sharpshooter. Tajiri tried to struggle for a few moments but was forced to tap out. |
The cameras turn back to the stage where Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman are ready for their next draft picks. Fairly quick and simple this time around as Bischoff drafts Rhyno, while Heyman drafts Matt Hardy. The cameras turn to the back where Randy Orton is yelling about "that psychopath" and how he tried to kill him tonight to Ric Flair, Batista, & Triple H. Triple H says he has delt with Cactus Jack in the past and knows that it is Foley's last resort as a form of attack. He says that once Orton finishes him off once and for all, he'll never have to hear from him again. La Resistance def. Booker T & Rob Van Dam to capture the World Tag Team Championships | La Resistance a trio no more thanks to the draft taking Rene Dupree away from the group. Rob Conway & Sylvain Grenier continue on as a tag team and do so in great fashion by winning the World Tag Team Championships. The match was going in favour of the champions till the man who ignored his partners when drafted, earlier in the show showed up at ringside. Renee Dupree was holding the french flag and as Rob Conway distracted the referee, he smacked Booker T in the head with it. Van Dam chased Rene up the ramp and turned back just as Conway hooked Booker T's leg. Van Dam reached the ring, but wasn't able to break up the pin fall attempt. Conway & Grenier left the ring with the belts and embraced Dupree on the stage as La Resistance stood tall as a complete group one last time. |
Following a commercial break, Booker T & Rob Van Dam are still catching their breath in the ring as Bischoff and Heyman continue on with the draft picks. Bischoff is surprised but delighted to announce that Raw has drafted the currently on the injured list, Edge. Heyman isn't happy but smiles when he reads his own choice, that Friday Nights are about to get extreme as he is proud to announce that Smackdown has drafted Rob Van Dam. Van Dam who is still standing in the ring with Booker T looks shocked but he shakes hands with his now former tag team partner. Following another commercial break, Paul Heyman & Eric Bischoff are ready to get their final draft picks off the night. Heyman chooses his ball and is delighted to announce that Friday Night Smackdown had acquired Christian. Eric Bischoff then choose his ball and broke in to a laughing fit. Heyman asked Bischoff what was so funny and walked over to read the draft for himself. Heyman went pale as Bischoff shared with the world that Monday Night Raw drafted Paul Heyman. Heyman began cursing Bischoff and told him that he'd rather die than work for Eric Bischoff and quit right there on the spot. Lita def. Molly Holly | Molly Holly was wearing a wig to hide her shaved head following the loss to Victoria at Wrestlemania XX. What could have been a good woman's match was nothing more than a way to poke fun at Molly as shortly in to the match, Lita pulled the wig off and rolled Molly up for the three count. |
Following a commercial break, Eric Bischoff is standing in the middle of the ring. He says while his last draft pick may seem somewhat wasted, it was more than worth it because now the WWE is free of that balding idiot, Paul Heyman. Bischoff talks about how Raw is the superior brand for a few moments before "use my body to keep me alive" is heard across the PA System. The crowd cheer in shock as Edge makes his long awaited return to WWE. Once inside the ring, Bischoff opens his arms waiting to embrace the man he drafted earlier in the show but Edge charged across the ring and speared Bischoff to the delight of the fans. Edge smiled as the crowd cheer him on, happy to be home. Eddie Guerrero vs Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship went to a no contest | A first time ever encounter to close a Raw for the ages as WWE Champion, Eddie Guerrero put his championship on the line against Smackdown's biggest draft pick of the night, Shawn Michaels. This was a really good match with a few near falls for Shawn Michaels, the crowd popping for each pin thinking Shawn was going to get his first WWE Championship win in 8 years. Eventually, maybe because they didn't want Smackdown to have "Match of the night" Evolution made their way down to ringside and circled the ring. Just when it looked like they were going to interfere, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, & Too Cool ran down the ramp to make the save. This seemingly cause an all out brawl as more Raw and Smackdown superstars came from the back to join the fight as the referee through the match out and called for the bell. Eventually, Steve Austin's theme hit as "The Sheriff" drove to the ring on his ATV with more Raw wrestlers following in quick pursuit. The show comes to an end as Raw and Smackdown continue brawling both in the ring and at ringside. |

WWE Monday Night RAW: Monday 22nd March 2004...I really hate booking this episode of RAW, I've done it twice and both times it has been forced. RAW winning the coin toss was good, and I'm glad that you went along with Shelton Benjamin moving to RAW, but it shouldn't have opened the show in my opinion. Good opening contest though between Randy Orton and Benjamin, but I think that if you wanted Benjamin to be the blue chipper giant killer on RAW, he should have won cleanly without any interaction involved with Mick Foley. It started off the Cactus Jack portrayal of the feud with Orton well though. I'd like to see Batista try and get in the way of Foley too, at some point. Paul Heyman then splitting up La Resistance is bad, two weak draft picks to start the show isn't so good. Christian beating Chris Jericho was good, but badly positioned in the show, I think this was the right opportunity to calm the crowd down from the opener, or instead had this match open the show. Tajiri still coming to RAW is a surprise, but nice way to get him a match with Chris Benoit, let alone for the World Heavyweight Championship. John Cena's rap was cool, but also sort of pointless and unnecessary. Shawn Michaels on SmackDown! ? I'm not that fond, but it's different I guess. Was obvious that Benoit would get the win, but nice match to introduce Tajiri to Monday nights. Up next, baffling decision for La Resistance to win the World Tag Team Championships from Rob Van Dam and Booker T, but it sets up a tournament or something to announce fresh champions I guess. Unless Robert Conway teams with Sylvan Grenier from here. Still, not a fan, as alternatively you could have given Garrison Cade and Mark Jindrak this opportunity, as they were getting a decent push just before WrestleMania XX. Rob Van Dam on SmackDown! is great, as it's time for him to start main eventing on the blue brand. I hope John Bradshaw Layfield happens. Edge to RAW is good, would have loved him to stick on SmackDown! though. Christian to SmackDown! I'm not fond of as it breaks up the feud with Chris Jericho way too soon. Paul Heyman to RAW and then quitting was nice of course, too. Up next, Lita with a win against Molly Holly was fun. Edge spearing Eric Bischoff was still fun. A powerful adversary now. I think there should have been another pair of drafts made though. Eddie Guerrero and Shawn Michaels in the main event was fun, and I liked the massive brawl to finish the show including Stone Cold Steve Austin. Overall though, a weak Draft Lottery, and a strange show. Most of the RAW roster didn't even appear, and nothing has really changed about RAW or SmackDown!, and if I'm honest RAW got the weaker side of the Draft. In addition, where was Triple H? I think some of the drafts weren't very good, as it cut off multiple feuds, which you now have to improvise up for Backlash in a few weeks. But nonetheless, I'm game to see more, and if I'm honest, you should definitely work on the layout, it's not so great on my eyes.

RAW: - Ah, the good old school draft, I still can't decide whether I liked it at the time or not, it didn't have that big drama feel. I like Shelton going to RAW, this definitely seemed like the time when he could have moved up to the main event scene properly. Maybe an extended feud with Triple H down the line? - And boom, a big win for Shelton right away. Loved the Cactus Jack appearance, I'm expecting we get the Hardcore match between Orton and Cactus at Backlash, it was probably one of my favourite Orton matches of all time. - Rene going to SmackDown makes some sense, guy could have been a big midcard star if pushed properly. I'm guessing we'll see Conway and Grenier keep teaming though. - Great rematch between Christian and Chris Jericho, I'm assuming that the man was Tomko. I always did like the Christian/ Tomko pairing at this point. They could pull off the comedy/ straight man duo really well. - Tajiri getting a title match immediately after being drafted? Seems to be he may be in line for a push. Michaels on SmackDown is huge and I think gives the brand some much needed star power. - Benoit was always going over here but it was good to see an even match. I'm thinking Triple H should have made an appearance here if you're going to continue his feud with Benoit. - Rhyno and Matt both seem like throwaway picks at this point, but with the right booking you could easily change that. - Nice to see La Resistance taking the tag titles here since I'm assuming either Booker or RVD is getting drafted. Odd to see Dupree out here since I think he should be distanced for the group but as long as it's a one time deal then it's not a big issue. - Edge and RVD are huge picks and could be right on the verge of main event status if you use them correctly. Not sure about Christian going to SmackDown since I'd have liked to have seen the Jericho feud go on a bit longer. Not a fan that you went with the Heyman quitting angle since I always liked Heyman as GM. - Ah, the Molly Holly bold angle. I shudder at the memory. - Good to see Edge returning and immediately taking out Bischoff. Hoping for big things from him. - Great main event from Eddie and Michaels, it made sense for it to go to a no contest since you've now got a big feud open in the future. Loved the big brawl to end the show. - A good start to kick things off. I do think you could have done with an extra draft or two but that's just me. I look forward to seeing what you do with this, keep it up Chris.

Raw - Shelton Benjamin to Raw is nice and a big win over Orton for him, nice to see the Orton/Jack feud continue. I like Rene Dupree on Smackdown and think he's someone who could receive a nice little push as well. These picks seem like they'd be in the middle of the show though. Liked Christian going over Jericho and nice to see Tomko in here. Tajiri on Raw and getting a World Title match is cool. I'm not really a fan of Michaels on Smackdown, I don't think he really fits on the brand, but am looking forward to the match with Guerrero. Liked La Resistance going over for the tag titles. Edge & RVD are good picks and should both fit in well. Christian on Smackdown seems weird as there was probably a lot more for him to do on Raw though I would like to see a Cena/Christian feud. I wasn't really fond of the Heyman quitting angle, would've liked to see him stay on SD as GM. Nice main event and brawl to end the show though. Overall it was a decent enough starting show, I thought some of the draft choices made were a bit strange but I look forward to seeing where you take this.
