In a new interview conducted for The UK's Daily Star, Chris Jericho had the following to say about his return to WWE, how long he intended to stay, and his impending departure to tour with Fozzy:
"Lots of fans were saying please come back, so I came back. Punk and I had some good thoughts on what we could do together and people were saying screw you, you’re only back for the payday at Mania.
I’m nothing like those guys. I’ve only missed four house shows since I came back. I ended up signing for four months longer than I planned to do. And yes, when it’s done I’ll devote myself 100 percent to Fozzy for our run.
I’m in the best shape ever, I’m not hurt, I can easily come back for as long as I want whenever I want, but people should understand that I’m not going to wrestle until I’m 85 years old."

I'd rather Jericho stayed until his final retirement, get all the wresting we can out of him. He's one of the better guys in the company.

I actually like the fact that he comes back for awhile and takes some time off. He's not a dummy, he's not going to end up in a wheelchair because he pushed too hard. Plus when he comes back its never that long in between time. We get some great feuds & matches out of him, and then it gives other guys a time in the spotlight.

He's been back for 5 months.....people need to stop being greedy. There is no law that says guys like Chris Jericho, The Rock, or Brock Lesnar HAVE to wrestle for WWE. They don't have to wrestle, they could leave and never come back if they wanted to....people should just appreciate and be thankful for whatever they give us whenever they decide to appear.

I think a lot of the negativity associated with his run this time around is how little was done with it.
The great set of promos meant very little. The weeks of trolling were all being built to this huge reveal and subsequent win at the Royal Rumble, only to have him lose. He gains number one contender status in a meaningless match on Raw, then loses to Punk not once, but twice.
Couple that with the fact that the angle with Punk took a complete backseat to Rock/Cena, and then Brock/Cena, that a lot of the creativity and intrigue that could have been built around those matches was completely and utterly lacking. As a result, neither match came off as good as it should have.
I get that one of his biggest goals was to put over the younger talent, and that's fine, but in this case, it came at a total expense to his reputability as a character. I will never, ever understand the decision to have him lose the Rumble. It didn't make sense then, and it makes no sense now.
Jericho is, and will likely always be at the top of the list of my favorites, but to say I was underwhelmed with everything he's done this year would be an understatement.
With that being said, I certainly hope this isn't the last we'll see of him. The last thing I would want would be for him to end his career with this current run.

There are people who actually want to wrestle in the WWE; and fans would never get to appreciate guys like Antonio Cesaro or Daniel Bryan if they can't move on from the past. |

When guys only come back for a short time, I feel like it's hard to emotionally invest in them. You want them to want to be there and be a champion, but if they're only stopping by for a cup of coffee, it's not the same. We know it's fake, but this makes it feel even faker.

Why is everyone so obsessed with the length of his run. It's about the quality.
For me, there hasn't been much quality to this run at all. I'd have loved him to win the championship at some point and continued the feud he had going with Punk but the storyline got ruined when it became about booze instead of who's the best wrestler in the world. I was also very very disappointed by the lack of warring words they should have had, they're two of the best talkers EVER and they didn't do any promos ripping into each other like I'd hoped.
All in all, not his best run, but it's not like he desperately needed it or like WWE needed him.

His run isn't over yet, he could very easily win the title on Sunday.

This, this, and more this. I cant sit there and enjoy seeing Jericho on TV and be interested in his feud and where its going, knowing that there wont be anything major going on since he's leaving in the near future anyway.. His feud with Punk has been horrible. Idc what he says, his head is not 100% with the WWE. Hes thinking a lot about his side projects, because his on-screen stuff isnt that great. Jericho can make the worst storylines look like gold.. but to have a boring World Title feud go to Wrestlemania? He kinda let us down. If he was the wrestling fan in our shoes like he wrote about being in his book, he'd understand anyone becoming frustrated of these come-again go-again games. |

If his run was 6 months, that's pretty long. People fondly remember The Rock's 2003 heel run, and that was only three months worth.
It's down to the quality and the booking, not length.

Jericho will always be my favorite of all time. I love his current run. People claim that it's had no point, but he came back to put Punk over more as a great champion. Everyone assumes that people have to be champion or win all their matches when they return.

People's attitude towards wrestlers who either leave, take time off or come back part time is ridiculous & I'm sick of people acting like they're owed something.
If a fave of mine comes back I appreciate it, the last thing I do is keep tabs on how often they show up. Rock is not a full time WWE performer anymore & hasn't been for about a decade: I've accepted that. Since Jericho's been back I've enjoyed seeing him back, he's been back full time: I'm not going to ruin my enjoyment by estimating how long he's back for.

I thought it was little weird that he lost The Rumble, The Chamber, WM, and Extreme Rules. I dont think hes gonna win tomorrow either, which I'm ok with. Jericho is on his "Put People Over Tour." I just want him to be WWE Champ one more time, before hes calls it a career.
