I didn't want to put this in the Entertainment board because the conversation is not about the movie, "Paul".
If you haven't seen it, to sum it up without ruining anything, two comic nerds come across an Alien while leaving Comic-Con and hilarity ensues. Pretty good movie, I highly recommend watching it.
However, in one scene, Paul explains that his image has been trickled into the public view so that if in fact humans and his species ever met, people wouldn't "spazz". So here is the topic of conversation, as I have been thinking about this long before I saw this movie.
Am I the only one who has noticed quite a bit of movies dealing with aliens in recent years? I know they've always been a popular sub-genre, but let's be honest, Hollywood has seemed to step it up lately. Even song's like ET are out by Katy Perry...this conversation is more or less a conspiracy theory concept, but I find it interesting.
What if the powers that be are seeing fit to help the general population accept that an alien visitation/invasion is plausible and so we wont be so quick to freak out. Think about the religious/spiritual/governmental chaos that would ensue from finding out for sure that we are not alone in the universe.
Anyways, share your views, discuss. I find it interesting, and I'm sure many of you will as well.

I was watching a video on youtube in which they talk about how the things "ufos" can do are just beyond the laws of physics. They go on to talk about how what you think is a ufo/alien is really a demon. They went on to talk about how in the 40's the speculation was that "aliens were from mars and or Venus. The speculation was based in part on the beleife that those planets were too far away to ever know. And then when humans made it to space they changed the idea to far away solar systems because they know we cant make it there to disprove those claims. There was a man Aleister Crowley, who years ago said he spoke with a demon. He went on to draw a picture of this demon and it is what we know as greys/aliens today.
I think the universe is too big for humans to be alone. I think there has to be life out there somewhere. I just think there are soo many theorys as to what "aliens" like paul are that it would be foolish to automatically assume they are aliens from another planet.

I would freak the out if I saw ET walking down the street. I would invite him in for some Reese's Pieces and a phone call.

I believe in life on other planets. I'm very open to the idea they have visited/contacted earth at some point. I consider the idea that the government has been working with hollywood to drip feed us information on aliens to ease us into them to be a complete crack pot conspiracy theory.
I really hope we shed more light on extra terrestial life in my life time though. It would just be a giant shake to our systems. No religion accounts for extra terrestial life. Would they be hostile? peaceful? Could we benefit one another? Such an interesting idea to just day dream about.

When a movie like "Avatar" makes 3 billion dollars...I'm willing to at least give consideration to the possibility that SOMETHING isn't quite kosher. "Avengers" is also rampaging across the globe. I'm just saying, I don't find it too far fetched that the Government, or even extra-terrestrial life themselves are working with the biggest influential medium on the planet to coax people into understanding/believing. People's minds, by and large, are broadening and becoming more accepting. We're past due for a new step in the evolutionary process. Idk, I just feel like the World is changing and something is coming. I agree though, many times I find myself considering the possibilities and hope that we make first contact in my life time...I look forward to the possibilities. All this said, don't get me wrong, I believe in the existence of a "God" and love Jesus, but I find this whole idea fascinating and completely plausible.

I don't believe the government has the patience to plant ideas about aliens in movies for 60+ years to try and ease our minds for first contact, and I don't believe they have the ability to pull it off even if they wanted to, let alone hide this fact for that long.

Ok, dont believe anything Aleister said, but explain to me how he drew a demon back in 1904 that looks exactly like what we think "aliens"/greys look like today? Roswell sparked the UFO phenomenon/craze that led to all SCI-fi movies And Roswell happend 40 years after Aleister's claims. Is it so crazy to think that the devil has not only convinced you he doesnt exist, he's also convinced you his minions are friendly ETs? I think it's just as likely those greys/aliens are demons as it is just as likely that they are ETs. And then I think, if those aliens really are ETs then our race has to have been seeded on this planet because the aliens look too human like for it to be a mere coincidence. Think about how HUGE the universe is. And then you're going to tell me its by chance that Earthlings and Aliens look almost exactly alike?

Its an interesting theory. It desensitizes us to the abnormality of aliens but I dont think its a governmental conspiracy. Everything on Earth has pretty much been discovered so the idea of other worlds and creatures is popular.

If I were one to lean more towards a religious mindset than scientific, I would probably agree with you entirely, actually. I'm more inclined to believe your second statement though. At some point in our evolutionary history, mankind branched from the primates that we share such close DNA with. SOMETHING had to trigger that to happen. I'm willing to give credit to the possibility that aliens fornicated with our ancestors at some point, which created us. *Edit* High fives for my 1,000th post!

The idea is ridiculous. Not the least of which because it presumes that the government is somehow dictating to Hollywood what movies it makes, but also because it presumes the government is competent. This is the same government who every couple of years shuts down because they can't agree on budgets.

If I told you I could fly everyday for 10 years and you never once saw me do it, then one day I just fly away trust me, you'd still go nuts

Meh, I get where youre coming from, but the government wouldnt be "warming us up" to the idea of aliens visit.
I believe in aliens, and I believe that any contact with us will not end on a good note.

Or maybe, just maybe, film companies want to make use of new graphics and special effects that will produce higher quality films, and incorporate extraterrestrial or FANTASY elements to appeal to the masses since this genre is at an all time high in popularity terms? You really think that films (like the Avengers) which depict aliens as the ennemy and produce widescale invasions and wars on extraterrestrials is issued by the government to put people's minds at ease about possible visitors from another planet??? You are completely of your rocker man. At first sight of an alien I'm willing to bet people will panic and try to attack it, not invite it in for tea.

If anyone was actually SURPRISED that there was life outside of earth then I'd consider them to be either ignorant or completely stupid.
I'd be EXCITED, not surprised.
If I saw one I'd probably die of excitement/terror.

If the feds wanted us to warm up to the idea of aliens being around they wouldn't make them the villain of every single movie.

and as a side note, from what i've seen of the ads 'paul' is the hugest rip-off of the tv series wilfred.
