the only problem i've had with gamestop is the guy that kept talking to me about the new game that came out.
"so do you like blah blah and blah..." "well this has blah blah"
it's partly my fault because i went along with it. i could've said no... heh.

I remember I went in to a Gamestop the day after Homefront came out. I wanted to see how much trade in I could get (only $12.00 by the way, Best Buy gave me $38.00). The guy spent about five minutes trying to convince me why it was better than any other shooter out there. I just wanted to ask him how he ever got a job there. That just further solidified my opinion that most Gamestop employees are morons. I understand and respect his opinion, but to say it is the best shooter out there was a bit far fetched.

Believe it or not, here on Earth we're all individuals with our own opinions, likes/dislikes, preferences, etc. Some people don't want to engage in small talk with a complete stranger, especially in a retail environment.

That reminds me of another annoying GS experience I had. I went in there with my gf at the time, and picked up some cheap games for the original XBox (this was back when the 360 was pretty new and still had a weak library). I've quite often seen, even to this day, their employees get weird when girls are in the store and this was no different. Sure enough, the guy couldn't stop trying to make small talk with the two of us (and it was clear he was mainly trying to get her attention). I was joking with her on the way in about how these guys could be, so I took no offense when it turned out I was right. But in all of his efforts to joke with her (seriously, the guy just wouldn't shut up), he severely screwed up my purchase. He rang up the games wrong, put the wrong discs in the cases, forgot to put a game at all in 1 case, and even gave me the wrong game (I was given The Suffering 2 instead of part 1). I didn't notice the error until the next day, but luckily the manager on duty didn't even question me when I explained what happened. He pretty much gave me a "yeahhh, that sounds like him" expression when I told him everything, and gave me the correct games.

I can't say I've had really any bad situations at GS, well besides 2, but they're not that bad.
1.) I bought something on PS3 for my co-worker - Ace Combat 6. The disc wasn't put in the case at all, so I went back and got it, no questions asked.
2.) This one could have been worse. The Madden '12 midnight launch. I got my finalized receipt for the game, I reserved the HOF edition. Paid it off. And how GS does their reserves is [likely most of you know] you pay off your game, and get the final receipt like the final sale receipt. You show them that, and you get your game. Well at some point during the night, someone had pickpocketed my receipt. Yes, that still happens, as the thing was in my pocket ALL NIGHT. And when I went to pick up my game, no receipt. I was almost out $90. But I know the people at GS, and the guy gave me my copy. Sucky part was the idiot who stole my receipt went and got another copy of the game. They had to give him the copy of the game, because he had a receipt that was "his". So they were almost out $90, but thankfully, the two working traded some old games of theirs in, to cover the $90. They didn't make me pay it back, but the person I am, I gave them a very generous discount at Domino's, because I worked there at the time
So the end of the experiences weren't bad. But, they could have been, LOL.

As someone who worked in video game stores for a long time, a LOT of people spend time in there for conversation. The clerks should be attune to who isn't interested in small talk, but still. MANY people do.

I've only had a few minor problems in GS. One was with the opening store manager, whom is the ONLY GS employee I've ever disliked. He's just one of those overly pushy,"make you feel like crap for not pre-ordering or getting a warranty" kind of guys. Does it every time, almost on command of me thinking about it. I do my best to avoid him.
The other time was when GTA IV came out. I'd ordered the deluxe edition with the lock box, dufflebag, and concept art book. Cost me 80 big ones and the guy tried to send me out of the store with the the pre-sealed game. Normally I wouldn't mind this type of honest mistake, but the way he acted when I went back and told him about it convinced me that he was trying to send me away without my bonuses on purpose. But that's an isolated incident.
Also, I pretty much don't even pre-order anymore unless it's on the RARE occasion that there's DLC involved that won't ever be available again. Usually they make the pre-order DLC available shortly after anyways. But as said above, games never really sell out anymore. The last game I saw sell out clean off the shelves was Madden 10. I went in to buy a copy and they were legit sold out.

And what if he told you about a game you never thought about much or a game you've never heard of? Then you buy it and love the game... thanks to him.

"I'M SICK OF THAT SON OF A BITCH BEHIND THE COUNTER BEING SO GODDAMN NICE!" He just doesn't want to engage in small talk. What's so hard to understand?

Then stop going out in places where social activity is bound to happen. I'm the same way. But sometimes I deal with it and be nice

Didn't think I should start a new thread for something like this, so I figured I'd just bump this thread instead. I went to Gamestop again today and picked up a few cheap 360 games. I'm kind of anal about the condition and completeness of my games, unless I'm getting a great deal. So, if I'm paying full used price, I only buy complete games. One of the games I picked out was Dead Rising. They had a number of copies there, but only one that was non-Platinum Hits and complete. For some reason, the guy at the counter decided to just ignore the case that I picked out, and gave me a broken Platinum Hits case that won't even close, without a manual (because I guess they just assume that their customers don't give a about that sort of thing). I didn't even notice this until I left, so does anyone know if you can return games there for such a petty (to most) reason?

I'm actually jealous of that employee, it must be nice being completely oblivious to how much of a doofus you're coming across as to other people.
