A two-year-old boy sat up in his coffin and asked for water before laying back down again lifeless, according to a Brazilian news website. In a case that seems almost too incredible to be true, ORM claimed that Kelvin Santos stopped breathing during treatment for pneumonia at a hospital in Belem, northern Brazil. He was declared dead at 7.40pm on Friday and his body was handed over to his family in a plastic bag. The child's devastated family took him home where grieving relatives held a wake throughout the night, with the boy's body laid in an open coffin. But an hour before his funeral was due to take place on Saturday the boy apparently sat up in his coffin and said: 'Daddy, can I have some water?'. The boy's father, Antonio Santos, said: 'Everybody started to scream, we couldn't believe our eyes. Then we thought a miracle had taken place and our boy had come back to life. 'Then Kelvin just laid back down, the way he was. We couldn't wake him. He was dead again. Mr Santos rushed his son back to the Aberlardo Santos hospital in Belem, where the doctors reexamined the boy and confirmed that he had no signs of life. He said: 'They assured me that he really was dead and gave me no explanation for what we had just seen and heard.' The boy's family decided to delay the funeral for an hour in the hope that he would wake up again, but ended up burying him at 5pm that day in a local cemetery. Convinced that his son was victim of medical malpractice, Mr Santos has now registered a complaint with the police who have launched an investigation He said: 'Fifteen minutes after rushing him away for resuscitation, they came and told me he was dead and handed me his body. Perhaps they didn't examine him properly. Dead people don't just wake up and talk. I'm determined to find out the truth.' The local state department today confirmed the boy had been admitted to hospital in a critical condition and was declared dead after suffering cardiac-respiratory failure. I wouldn't have believed this story if I didn't hear this one from my cousin:
My cousin is a computer tech guy, and currently he's working in a hospital in charge of all their computers. At the time, they had just gotten a new computer system, so obviously he had a ton of personal interactions with the nurses and doctors who had issues with it. He had built up a friendship with a nurse there, who was about his age (I believe 22 at the time). I don't know the exact job title for her, but she was the one who brought the people who have died to the basement until the funeral home can get there to pick up the body. Well...
One night, she had to do just that. The body had laid in the hospital room for a little while, to let the family say their last goodbyes. Once that was over, she pulled the covers over the body and wheeled it to the basement. Well, once she got down there (and my cousin swears that he was sure she wasn't bs'ing, she looked visibly shaken by the story when she told it to him the next day, and wasn't a girl who would lie in the first place), the body sat up, the sheet falling down to his lap, grabbed her arm and looked at her. My cousin said she was most disturbed by the look it gave her, like "where am I?", like a scared look. And just like that, it lay back down on the mattress, lifeless. Obviously, she was scared crapless and ran, then came back and had to put the arm that grabbed her back on the bed because it had fallen to the side and was hanging down. The guy was dead.
Now I don't think my cousin is the one to lie, and he didn't think that girl was one to lie either... but I assure you that I'M not bullsh*tting you. This is what I was told.

I'm not saying this hasn't happened before.
The story is likely bullcrapthrough and through, but the thing I'm calling "bullshit" on is that this two year old child was apparently placed into a PLASTIC BAG. Yet somehow he started breathing again? Come on now...

Similar things have happened before, but considering a few of the elements of this story and the fact it comes from Daily Mail, I'm gonna have to call BS too.

Unless the deceased guy was obese, the hospital would have used a body bag, not just a pulled up sheet. Bodies are put in bags, then placed on a cart to transfer to the morgue. I'd believe me (licensed funeral director) over your computer tech cousin.

This girl may have been preparing to put it in the bag in the basement, and then this happened before she could do so. I wouldn't think nurses would wheel a body bag on a bed through the hospital.

I wouldn't think nurses would wheel a body bag on a bed through the hospital. They are put in body bags in the room before taking them to the morgue so the body isn't visible during transport. It's also highly unlikely only one person would be responsible for placing the deceased in a body bag.

Hey, you being a funeral director and all, are there any odd occurrences on the job that you can share?

What if the kid wakes up now? They should have been nice enough to include a flashlight -- just in case.
