I have created this topic because I'm confused and would really like people thoughts/predications/discussion on where you think the Mattel WWE line/s in general are going. Do you think Mattel will renew there contract with WWE? I'm not so sure...I get the feeling the WWE contract as a whole isn't doing aswell as they expected or hoped really. With the resecession and declining popularity in wrestling in the last 5 to 10 years I think Mattel couldnt have picked a worse time... They have done themselves proud on what they have produced with the quality of there figures but then again the prices and international supply have been falling points... The loss of the Legends/Defining Moments and entrance greats so early on can't have helped. But then I hear that here in the UK sales of WWE merch has gone up a whopping 15% due to Mattel so...mixed reports. How are they going to get Legends out without a Legends line? I personally have no idea... There seems to be only 1 Flashback in the Elites series most of the time and there's about 3 versions of Undertaker and HBK still wanted plus the Warriors and Macho mans...that pretty much fills your flashbacks till the contract runs out... The Legends line has got to be dead now with Mattel saying there wasn't enough sold to make a subscription on Matty.com. Mattel have also said no further contracts will be signed with Legends for figures to be made... But then you look at the availibility of Mattels last Flashbacks Yokozuna, Kevin Nash, Diesel and you can't find them for under $60 online.... You have Flashbacks selling out of there backorders of backorders before pictures have been released. Finding them in the UK in stores is tuff too. I just don't understand what's going on Or what will be the course for the future of Legends... Many of you will say wait for SDCC but I'd like to hear your thoughts now... I have become a massive fan of Elites and Legends over the last 2 years and want my hobby to continue healthily. I'd like to have a much bigger Legends and Elite display in the future but think only the latter will be accomplished. I know we Legends fans are in small number but we matter too!

Don't they have the contract for like a total of ten years?
And I'm pretty sure the overall line is doing well, your argument about not being able to find stuff in stores, some of that is due to stuff getting bought.

The finding stuff in stores argument really isn't something I put in there as my thoughts but other peoples as I get my WWE stuff online. I have been on the hunt before but you really have to keep your ear to the ground as when Elites hit you only have at most a day window to get them before there gone. So you right they are been bought...but if they disappear so fast why arnt more made/ordered?

Considering alot of the elites go twice or more then retail on ebay, i can say the lines doing pretty damn well. If they cut back on the Cenas, Rey, Takers, Big Show and Kanes, i think they will do even better.

There just isn't a big demand for Legends figures.
Legends flopped at retail. I hope Mattel will try it again but it ain't going to be anytime soon.
I hope Matty will carry Legends and it will probably be 6 a year like this year which is best case scenario. Worst scenario is that Matty stops carrying Legends simply because it's not selling.
Only hope is Flashbacks and they are doing well since it's limited to 1 per case but it seems like it will only consist of Attitude Era and either big names like Macho, Warrior, ETC.

im usually not one of these type of people, but i want to see the numbers.
id like to know the cost/profit ratio needed to sustain a line or deem it a "failure"

I know when I started I was really only focused on the Basics because I didn't like the cosmetic looks of the ab crunch on the Elites. Now I find myself wanting the Elites just as much and the ab doesn't bother me at all unlike the dlx edition of Jakks for some reason. I also like the Rumblers, but it is so frustrating that they pack someone new with someone old and I only want 1 of each superstar in Rumbler form. So I wait until they package people with others I don't have instead of buying duplicates so I am quite behind on the amount of Rumblers I have. I have 3 FlexForce figures (Orton, Jericho, Miz) and I don't like them at all, especially those dumb light up ones that cost as much as an Elite figure.

All your points are exactly why I lost complete faith in Mattel after having EVERY elite style figure all the way up to E13. I sold them all off and made about $2000 and put the money towards another hobby. I gave up on Mattel WWE figs because IMO the figures are becoming almost impossible to find anywhere, they're too expensive, and the quality of the figures/names coming out currently are just not like they started out to be. Sorry Mattel, it was fun while it lasted, but screw you guys for slacking off!!!

Five minutes ago on Espn Sports Center there was a segment on the top 10 trios in pro sports. The anchorman (tongue in cheek) said "the NWO's Hogan, Hall and Nash just missed the cut". They're still relevant. OMG Hall's name was mentioned on Disney owned ESPN and the world didn't stop.

Good points....but....
How are Mattel going to release Legends who arnt deemed worthy of a Flashback spot?
Mattel have just answered some questions on the Matty forum as seen in the topic. They said they had some of the guys mentioned on contract in the question and hope to release them......but how?

^^^I wish the Matty figures were a bigger success to get 12 a year. Those He-Man figures added up very quickly and I'm not a hardcore enough fan to purchase every one. Rob, are you overseas? This might not help you but I still think TRU would be open to some kind of exclusive deal involving Legends. They just can't bury themselves like they did with the 2 packs. They have to carry them like the early series of Jakks CSDA.
12 Mattys + 8(or12) TRU excl. + FB = a lot of Legends

mattel seems to be managed by a bunch of suits that pay little to no attention to the wants of any non-barbie or non-hot wheels customers. this can be seen in the line-crippling amount of cenas and mysterios out there. at some point, data must've come in saying those 2 were their biggest sellers so now we get one in every other wave.
the same can be said about this new non-flashback cases of elites. aren't most adult collectors highly anticipating the fbs? so why cut them? how does matty benefit from cutting booker and putting in a 3rd taker? in that instance, book is on tv 20x more than taker! they're likely using the failed legends line(that only failed due to their utter idiocy) as a barometer. so why bother at all?
these same examples extend to motu and dc. they think they know better despite dcsh, dcuc, legends and defining moments hitting the crapper.

not true about 1 flashback per line e12=2 e13=1 e14=2 e15=1 e16=2 e17=1 so 1 and 2 fb's every other line.

Because the designers want to produce some figures for the hardcore collectors, and the bean-counters probably only endorse it under certain conditions (like the "not in every case mix" rule).

The legends line failed so bad that Mattel is afraid to pack Flashbacks more than 1 per case which makes Fb do hard to find.

I wish we could go a couple of weeks without one of these doom and gloom threads. Mattel has said that as long as they have the license, they will find a way to make older characters ... whether they're called Legends, Flashbacks, whatever ... they're not going to abandon us, even if the quantities are less than what we want. Everyone should take a deep breath.

I don't see how Jakks (Company that can't sell figures) had classic superstars sell out and Mattel (company that people actually buy figures from) has bad Legends selling

Mattel has great product, sadly its how there packing the cases most basic cases contain between 3-4 of each Rey, Cena, Orton, Kofi. Wrestlemania heritage was the worst of it so far I finally saw them in a kmart 3 cases worth of course 9 Cena, 9 HHH, and 7 Undertakers, 1 each of Eddie, Warrior and Swagger the 2 legends sold better than the main eventers.
Mattel has a good thing they need to re-evaluate the market for Legends maybe an asst every 3 months instead of an elite line-up 4 sets a year but stacked with names people want more big name anchors that should carry the line
example asst 1 big names 2 per case build a figure Paul Bearer
Undertaker purple glove Undertaker gray glove Shawn Michaels early heel turn Barry Windham Doink
