Help me out guys.
2013 or 2014 I'll be coming over (finally) from the UK.
What should I plan my trip around.. Daytona or Bristol.
Help appreciated.

It really depends on what you want to enjoy. Daytona races have a lot of "Hollywood" and hoopla to them. Obviously the 500 is the biggest race of the year. However the track is so huge that depending on where you're sitting, you're going to miss a TON of stuff. Ive never been to Daytona but Ive been to similarly designed Talladega and anything from about turn 2 to turn 3 was a mystery for me.
As for Bristol, I absolutely LOVE going to Bristol for a race. The lowest you want to sit is about 15-20 rows up. My season tickets were 11 rows up at the start finish line and I could just barely see the top of the cars on the back stretch so keep that in mind. High enough up you can still see the cars at all points of the track plus you're still "on top" of the cars as Bristol is almost build like an old Roman Coliseum. It all depends on what you want to experience. Personally I would LOVE to go to Daytona 500 but Ive also been to Bristol many times before. If my choices were a Race at Bristol or say the Coke Zero 400....Id chose Bristol.

Thanks very much for the reply.
I have to go to Daytona one day, but in all honestly Bristol looks and sounds just up my street. I will take the tip about 15-20 rows up on board, I would have never of known that.
Is Bristol fairly easy to get tickets for now? I remember hearing it was nearly impossible a few years back... But read somewhere the crowds have dropped a fair bit since they changed the track banking in 07'..

Or you could get them second hand from scalpers. The past couple years its been pretty easy to get a hold of but Im not so sure if/how its going to change with the repaving. Id say you could still get them for $150 or less (i think face is $96). Sometimes you can get lucky and find people basically giving away tickets on Craigslist here. I got tickets to the Braves-Giants MLB playoff game a couple years ago for $20 a pop. I would certainly check places out before just buying tix. Also look at a seating chart a head of time so you can have an idea of where to sit.

I would think Daytona has a lot more to do besides just the race(beach etc) Bristol is in the middle of the country. Bristol is nice because it's small and you see everything. Daytona is really big and hard to see. My dad didn't like Daytona when he went for that reason.

Caves, Mountains, Dams etc. Depending on your age if you're a party type person, stay in Johnson City or Knoxville (both college towns) with lots of bars and things to do. One of the best things to do in Bristol is go to Gatlinburg. Its about a 2hr drive but its a HUGE tourist town there.

When I'm closer to the time I'll be looking for a lot of info on various places to visit whilst I'm over, so I may call on you in the future for a bit of knowledge, if that's ok. I plan on doing it proper with hire car etc so I won't be just visiting one small area. So long as its racing - I won't be bored. Hopefully there's some other small lesser known tracks around which I can also visit.

Also have to say it's cool to see a NASCAR fan from across the pond. You definitely don't see that much. Hope you enjoy your visit here, and whichever race you choose to go to.

In my small town alone we've got 411 Speedway, which Nascar use to run in its very early days. As well as Smokey Mountain Speedway which is a dirt track.

Thanks mate, I appreciate it. It may not be for a while, definitely not before August 2013 - may end up being 2014... But I plan to come over for at least a month. Ive wanyed to do it for years and now its time to put words in to action. I'll be sure to let you know how it go's. Thanks again.

Very kind of you, thank you mate. I've actually been on the website for Smokey Mountain Speedway in Maryville before whilst researching. Looks great. I can't recall the other but I'll check it out. They hold the Worlds biggest Amatuer Moto X meeting at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricaine Mills too in August - which is something I also want to see. So along with the Knoxville Nationals which is another option, I hope I can tie it all in together on a month long visit.

Small track Bristol where you can watch the entire race from your seat. Or Daytona very fast track. But are religious for racing fans. Either would be a great choice IMO.

I've been to Daytona for the 500 and the 400, Talladega, Charlotte for at least 10 races both the 600 and 500, Richmond, Martinsville, Watkins Glen, Dover, and Michigan.
I've sat on both the front stretch and backstretch for Daytona. As long as you are moderately well up, you'll see the entire track. They also have huge monitors for viewing too.
If you want the complete and total race experience - go to Charlotte, preferably the Coke 600 and stay from Wednesday through Monday. In the general area are the following NASCAR shops: Hendrick Motorsports and Museum (Walking distance from the track) NASCAR Hall of Fame (Downtown Charlotte) Richard Childress Rousch Fenway Stewart-Haas Earnhardt Ganassi Penske Racing Joe Gibbs Racing
Also, there is a huge festival of sorts downtown that runs from Wednesday I believe through Saturday called Thunder Road or something along those lines. Sponsors give all sorts of swag out, carnival style food, driver appearances and multiple concerts. Like I said it's called Thunder Road or Thunder Valley or something along those lines.
In addition to that, there is a dirt track right across from the track that runs the World of Outlaws on Friday. It's a huge event and extremely fun.
At the track, there is the usual vendors and trailers and also what I call the "garage sale" vendors who have older merchandise or sometimes unique cheaper made stuff. It's always worth a look.

Charlotte is an absolute amazing place. I will agree with that. I went in the summer when I was about 12 so there were no races at the time but I got to go see all the race shops and even took a tour of Charlotte Motorspeedway. Awesome place. Its probably my next track on the list that I want to see.

I doubt I'll be able to do it all in one trip, but I'll get there one day. The big one there is in May, right? Seems the dirt track hold the World Of Outlaws World Final in November, too. Maybe I could do a shorter trip this year Would the Hall of fame, Museums, shops etc still be open in November??

Everything to my knowledge is open year round. I know the Hall of Fame and Hendricks shop are for sure. The other NASCAR shops you might need to call ahead and confirm on non-raceweekends there. The other race at Charlotte is usually the 2nd week in October.
