I’m super nostalgic for turtles As a kid I didn’t have them although I watched the cartoon because my toy money went primarily on video games and hasbros. So I don’t follow them closely but love stuff I see like the neca cartoon turtles etc I just saw the new playmates shell storage in smyths (think they were target exclusives in the states maybe last year?) and they’re very reasonably priced and they look great, slightly off the vintage ones colour wise etc but size and packaging very faithful. Without reading back here did anyone pick them up? What were people’s thoughts etc? I’m very tempted to just pick those up and have the 4 turtles I’ve seen them and I’m tempted myself. They aren’t spot on recreations of the vintage ones (different colors as you’ve said, plus some different tooling in the molds) but they do still look nice.

Yup, the shell on Leo is a washed out blue / grey which looks odd What is potentially problematic is the weapons are exact in size, colour and material - if someone has an original but no weapons they could easily pass off as originals

According to Bryan Flynn, sounds like Rat King is pushed to a later Ultimates series while they modify the figure. Karai is gonna be slotted into his spot.
While it's great they're listening to fan feedback, I hope he comes with at least one Sexy Rat King head sculpt.

I really wish the Playmates retro/classic stuff that is supposed to be popping up at Target and Amazon would popup for sale online. Esp. the villains. Do I buy them individually at Target? Or wait for Amazon to get its set of the same figures in stock, but at a possible retail price that is collectively cheaper than Target?

For the uninitiated: How many different lines of TNMT figures are there currently? I can think of at least 3, but I suspect there's more?

NECA Toon NECA Movie NECA Mirage NECA Archie NECA Monsters Super7 Ultimate Super7 Reaction Playmates re-releases And probably some others I'm forgetting. You also have the line coming out for the new movie. edit: I also forgot about those awful BSTAXN figures.

Adding these - Playmates crossover two-packs - TMNT/Street Fighter - TMNT/Stranger Things - TMNT/Cobra Kai (not sure this is still going though) Playmates 6” classics series (movie/toon 6” figures) Playmates Mutant Mayhem movie line (might not be out just yet but there are photos)

I picked up the Storage Shell Turtles. I still have my vintage Raph and Don ones, but I liked these as standard regular versions of the Turtles because of the superior sculpts to the original first-release versions (which I missed anyway). Plus they were only $12 each.
Now I'm considering getting some of the other classic releases, or at least the villains wave.
I bought the movie versions set a while back but left them in package. I couldn't bring myself to tear open cards that were so mint haha

NECA showed images of the TMNT 2 Keno which is going to be an SDCC exclusive
as well as a "teaser" image of TMNT 3 to celebrate the anniversary of it's release...dunno if this means figures but I can only hope it does

I don't know what possessed me last night, but I bought 6 BST AXN foot soldiers off of EE. They were $10 & change. You have to spend nearly $60 to get free shipping. I nearly turned off from that, until I found a code that took 10% off plus free shipping. Then I used an xmas giftcard I have had for years.
$61 for 6 foot soldiers. If I had walked into a store and saw the same thing on the shelf for the same price, No WAY I would have bought all 6 of them. 2, maybe 3 depending how I felt with my financial situation. Like I said, no Idea why I decided to just jump there.
Can anyone inform me on how shipping from EE works? Is it going to be a month till I get my stuff, esp. since I got free shipping?
ON the Retro Playmates front: I have seen reports that it is not only the storage shell Turtles, and the main villains showing up at Walmart. It also seems Fly Baxter Stockman, Napolean, Wingnut, and Rat King are also in the assortments/case packouts. These are becoming the main reason I am going to walmart lately. Really excited about Rat King.

I usually get a shipping email from EE within a week from placing my order. Figures have always come in a well packed box.

Ultimate Toon April is starting to hit:
It's definetely better than the previous (absolute garbage IMO) version, but still I wouldn't say it's great, the body proportions still look odd to me (i think the main issue is the torso is too short, particularly the lower torso, also the neck is too long), the face looks too stylized (more like japanese anime than an american cartoon), and seems the figure is still much shorter in stature than it should be (i.e. noticeably too short compared to the Turtles figures and Shredder). But ah well, it'll do I suppose, and at least nobody has to put up with that previous monstrosity anymore.

I want to start buying some turtle figures. What would you recommend, the NECA cartoon 4 pack, or the SH Figuarts turtles? I like the looks of both. One vintage figure I have my eyes on is navy seal Mike. I want vintage figures too, I know playmates is making the retros now that I see in Target. Would you recommend collecting vintage?

Lots of ways you could go. NECA will keep releasing the toon and movie stuff for a while I’d imagine, so it wouldn’t be long before they reissue the cartoon turtles (the last one was a year ago for the first Haulathon I believe, in style guide colors). As for the playmates “vintage” stuff, just be aware that they aren’t exact reproductions as some parts and coloring are different. But if you don’t mind that, they do look pretty cool in a display.

Although if you’re a Mirage Comics fan, I saw people saying that the new comic 4-pack is expected to start hitting Target in the next few weeks.

BROKEN - what style of Turtles are you wanting? Cartoon? Video Games? Comics? Movies? Toys? All of these styles are available (as modern figures I mean) plus many more. If it's cartoon style, the next question is are you planning on buying any other characters? You really need to decide this one (and be sure about it) before you start IMO. If there's even a chance you'd want other characters, I'd recommend the NECA "Turtles In Disguise" pack, the headsculpts are way better than previous NECA versions, and obviously there are lots of other characters available in matching style. Though quality control is rather iffy and poseability is limited. If you definetely don't want other characters, I'd recommend the Figuarts Turtles. The quality is great as is the poseability. But Figuarts didn't make any other characters and have seemingly given up on the idea. As Captain McKay said, be careful with collecting vintage, the modern era Playmates is one of the laziest companies in the world and are obsessed with making money in only the cheapest ways possible, and so are constantly rereleasing old Turtles toys. DO YOUR RESEARCH. There are sellers who will sell you a rerelease and pretend it's an original (and will charge you as such), you need to know what differences to look for, if you are truly wanting vintage originals, and make sure to see multiple pictures from multiple angles. Also be aware some of the soft plastics on the originals have a tendency to furr up and discolor even when still factory sealed, though there are techniques to restore them once opened. Though of course if you are happy with rereleases thats easier, but again as Captain McKay said be aware they are not exact replicas in most cases. Colors in particular are often very different. Again - research is the key. There are plenty of resources and databases online for Turtles toys, old and new.
