The cast of ABC's hit sitcom Modern Family are suing producers 20th Century Fox Television after contract negotiations turned sour. Cast members Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara have filed suit in a Los Angeles court in an attempt to void their contracts, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ed O'Neill (Married with Children) is not part of the lawsuit, as he is paid more than the rest of the cast and is negotiating his new contract separately. The lawsuit is likely to claim that the deals for the remaining cast members violate California's "7 Year Rule", which prohibits services contracts that last longer than seven years. The breakdown in salary negotiations has resulted in a delay for today's scheduled start of the fourth season of Modern Family. The cast's salary demands were previously revealed to be $200,000 per episode. The latest offer from the network is believed to be $150,000, with annual raises for each subsequent season. It was also recently revealed that Sofia Vergara, who plays Gloria, is TV's highest paid actress, with a series of endorsements helping her to earn $19 million (£12.1m) between May 2011 and May 2012. ---------------------------------------------------- . I hope they come to an agreement so we get a Season 4. They should get paid whatever the hell they want, the amount of awards the show gets.

That's a shame to hear, I hope it gets resolved as I too would like to see Season 4.
Interesting to note both Ed O'Neill and Sofia Vergara are highly paid in their respective ways.

If they're already pissing and moaning 4 seasons in, I can't imagine it going much past 5 or 6. It's stuff like this that causes us to get an over abundance of reality shows year after year.

I am sure they will figure this out as the show is to much of a success for them to pull it over money as it is highly rated so it gets great ad rates.

Apparently they've agreed to do the table reading this morning, so at least they've started the ball rolling with Season 4 I guess

I find it kind of funny that Ed O'Neill and Sofia Vergara get paid so much more than the rest of the cast, and yet the whole cast is still allowed to submit for Emmys under "supporting."
Oh yeah, and I was watching Sofia Vergara when she was a nobody. Knights of Prosperity, anyone?

It's amazing to think that her career was essentially over until this show hit, now she's one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

A new deal has been reached!insidetv.ew.com/2012/07/27/modern-family-cast-deal/It’s a done deal: The cast of Modern Family has struck a new agreement that will keep the Emmy-winning ensemble well paid as it begins its fourth season on ABC. “It’s unfortunate that things got to a public place,” co-creator Steve Levitan told reporters at ABC’s press tour party in Beverly Hills. “But at the end of the day, we’re all very good friends. There are a lot of people whose jobs it is to get in there and stir things up. And that’s what happened.” All six adult actors — Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, all of whom earned Emmy nods this month– were looking to boost their pay before the show returned to air. Negotiations blew up earlier this week when the cast refused to show up for a table read, then filed a a lawsuit seeking to void their seven-year contracts. The situation seemed to cool off Thursday when the cast agreed to return for another table read and both sides returned to the negotiation table later that day. As part of the new agreement, the cast is dropping its lawsuit against the studio. Deadline reports the actors other than O’Neill will now earn in the $170,000-$180,000 per episode range, up from north of $60k, along with a piece of the syndication profits. O’Neill also got a boost on his $100k per episode paycheck. Modern Family starts shooting its season premiere on Monday, an episode that Levitan is directing. “I’m happy they’re going to get what they deserve,” Levitan said, and jokingly added: “Justin Bieber is now [playing] Cam.” ----------------Great news imo.
