GT is NOT canon. Overall, it's not a bad show. But just keep in mind watching it that it was the first project done without the blessing of the original creator, thus it is universally not considered canon. It is only accepted by fans because some of it is actually pretty cool.
If you get to the end of DBZ...I'd suggest going back and watching all the DBZ movies first. Again, some of the best villains in the DBZ-verse are in the movies (Broly, Janemba, Lord Slug)...and htey have an order to them as well.
If you still want more after that, by all means, check out GT.

There IS a live action DB movie too. Most people will outright trash it, but I'll tell you this. Get your fill of the anime first. That's where the magic is. If you become a TRUE diehard fan of the DB-verse...give Dragonball:Evolution a chance.
For all of it's faults, it does a LOT right. Chow Yun Fat as Roshi, James Marsters as Piccolo and Joon Park as Yamcha all deserve credit. The live action movie is so close to being 'good' and that's what is frustrating. It was SO CLOSE -- but ultimately misses the mark. if it had been released in the early 90s, it would have been considered incredible. But instead of being good, it ended up being cheesy.

I've seen the first 3 DBZ can't say I really care for them, theyre just too rushed, I was expecting 90 minutes, not basically 2 part episodes, yeah fights in Z last like 5+ eps but it makes sense, when you try and put that and a movie story in less than 2 yeah not a fan, I do like the soundtrack for them, wish they used them in the main show Also when are they going to change the opening titles, it still has Vegeta and Nappa walking in it

I think I'm up to season...8? (I got too busy making my own projects to watch them after a while and it's been nonstop for a couple yrs now)...and the titles are still the same. The titles are the original Japanese ones.
I never minded this version of the opening credits (though granted I liked the Toonami version better) it's the mid-episode cut away the irks the hell out of me.

And I do believe there are like -- 11? Or so DBZ movies. They're all relatively short, but the Lord Slug, Broly and Janemba ones are all awesome. One of them you get to see Goku's father, which is cool to see how he could have ended up. They get better as the artists/production value goes up. Wait til after you finish the show though, so that way you don't have any characters ruined for you while watching it.

Oh and if you haven't already, I highly recommend watching Dragonball after you're done Z. I just started watching it again and I'm loving it.

Dragonball is also good, but as someone said earlier, it's much more "adventure" like...it's not bad at all though. And actually there is an appearance in the Android saga by someone that relates ALL THE WAY BACK to Dragonball. Also, dude, Idk if your image makes me wanna drink Pepsi or have a seizure. It hurts my eyes. Just sayin, bro.

Yeah, I hear Kai is trimmed down tremendously. Haven't caught it at all yet, but I may pick it up too if it's THAT much shorter, just so I have a version I can watch without feeling like I'm 'wasting away' so to speak. The Cell arc is just splendid storytelling. It was the only time I was like "HOLY Chocolate Shark!" towards a cartoon. It was really when they hit the stride of "We can't focus solely on Goku, we have 10 characters we have to deal with, this is how we juggle them" And they do it properly. One of the best single episodes is in this arc too if I'm not mistaken, where Goku and Piccolo have to get drivers' licenses. That driver's license episode is like, my favorite of the series. Freakin' loved that. Agreed on Dabura. For that matter, even though I don't have a problem with Buu himself, the second he actually makes his official introduction into the arc, the story goes to hell. I keep forgetting how promising off a start it had. So much so that it had the potential to be the best arc in the show, definitely featured one of the best fights, possibly the best fight of the show. I have a lot of problems with the finale of the series too. I even went on an 1000+ word rant on why I believe it sucks on another site (that I'll probably copy & paste when this thread get's to that point). Is Dragon Ball GT as good as Z because I may possibly watch that after I finish Z, the characters look really weird though, especially Goku....at least I think it's Goku Not in my opinion, from everything I've seen of GT, it's crap almost all the way throughout. The Baby Arc was absolutely atrocious, never saw the conclusion, but l can't recall watching anything that dragged on more than this Arc. The final two arcs seemed interesting, but from what I've seen of both I wasn't impressed (and even pissed off at points). There were a lot of "Right in the Childhood" moments for me in what I managed to stick through. But hey, in my experience I'm also a lot more critical of the franchise in general, so you may like it, or at least get some minor enjoyment out of it. Since the movies/OVA's/Specials were brought up, I'm going to briefly discuss my thoughts on all of them. Don't worry, no spoilers will be here . . . I. Deadzone ~ I don't remember much of anything about this one. II. The World's Strongest ~ Remember this one quite well. I liked the plot but the whole execution was pretty sloppy. III. The Tree Of Might ~ I remember even less of this than the first movie. IV. Lord Slug ~ Every summer for most of my childhood, my family and I would go to a house up in Maine where besides swimming, the only entertainment we had was a TV with a VCR. This was one of the only movies I owned . . . I've seen it to death. At one point I liked it, I mean it was only decent for me at first, but now I dislike it minus a few good scenes. V. Cooler's Revenge ~ Don't remember much outside the ending fight. It was a good fight. VI. Return Of Cooler ~ This was the other movie I owned besides Lord Slug. The only difference is I liked Lord Slug much better than this one. VII. Super Andriod 13 ~ Surprisingly funny, especially the ending (or maybe specifically the ending). This was overall decent at best. At this point though, it's the best. VIII, X, & XI. The Broly Trilogy ~ The first one's my favorite of the movies. The fight was just too awesome. The other two are two of the biggest piles of crap I've ever seen. Absolutely hate those two. IX. Bojack Unbound ~ It was alright, too similar to a certain saga in the show for me to recommend, and of course it was inferior due to the time limit & other problems. One of the better ones though, definitely. XII. Fusion Reborn ~ A really fun movie to watch though I have my problems with it. Like Janemba in the first half, but probably my second favorite. Thinking about it now, might be my favorite, have to re-watch it again to decide whether the first Broly one is truly the best. XIII. Wrath Of The Dragon ~ Boring, one decent new character, and would of been a sad end to DBZ movies but luckily we're getting a new one soon. XIV. The Two Specials ~ There are two specials that were made, one which should be watched after you finish the Frieza Arc, and the other after you finish The Cell Arc. Both of these are really just backstory specials, but they are also without a doubt two of the best DBZ stories you'll ever find. Especially the second one. At least, in my opinion that is. XV. The Two OVA's ~ Neither have been dubbed. But I liked the one not featured on Raging Blast 2.

Just wait the sagas get better and better! Cell saga is my favorite, just because of the most epic moment in DBZ history. (Not going to spoil it

I don't find it boring, I'm just bummed out Vegeta's dead, and yes I know he comes back eventually because he's only died once, just don't know when
Vegeta/King Kai interaction is something I wanna see, that'd be soooooo funny ;D

Also I'm not a fan of how Goku is pretty much The Undertaker, has one huge fight, gets ed up to the point he's nearly dead and does nothing but heal up until the next fight thought he was supposed to be the main character of the series

He is the main character of the series, but a LOT of that has to do with how his heart and leadership influences others to step up and others to fight. By the end of the Frieza saga, other characters start becoming 'main' characters and trust me -- you'll find it refreshing.
@pepsi -- I think it does happen around that time in the series. I just remember him being annoyed by the monkey the same way Piccolo was...
