On a similar note, has anyone else had a hard time watching early-90s wrestling due to the terrible hairstyles?

Your picture is from 2004. Stupid wrestling fans and their stupid long-term memories. ![](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7ojvvcGK11rpg71oo4_250.png) ^ 2012. Stupid wrestling fans who use the word never and gets proven wrong, then throws a hissy fit.. Not that this makes any point at all, but I'm pretty sure the average wrestling fan could see the WWF scratch logo in the bottom left corner and know that it can't have been from 2004.

I hope not. Curt Hawkins and Drew McIntyre are the future!!!
But loss of Tyler Reks is a truly great hit to the hair community.

I guess that is because of fashion? Like as Mullet is fashion in 1970's. Well short hair has been fashionable for over 100 years...but sure. (and the mullet was an 80's/early 90's thing)

I don't think so. People just get haircuts.
Jericho claims it's way better, though.

What people tend to forget is hair used to help sell punches to the upper deck and cheap seats. Long hair whipping around after a punch or power move helped show the force of the move. Today wrestling is all about selling to the TV crowd and hair won't help as much as an announcer yelling about how awesome a move is and the endless re-plays.

Long hair just isn't as popular as it was in the 80's and 90's. Think about it, you had all of the rock and metal bands rocking the long hair and it was a popular look. Nowadays, while some still rock it, it's much farther from mainstream than it used to be so that will reflect in wrestling.

have YOU ever had long hair? it really is a pain in the ass.
i grew my hair out once in my life just because i wanted to, and i honestly hated the hell out of it. it required too much attention. windy day? in my face. no hair tie? in my face. that and i was always messing with it, adjusting it, combing it back into place with my hands, no thanks. short hair is just easier to live with

Its mostly an age thing. Trips is 42, Edge was turning 40. 40 year olds with long hair are just lame in general. To be honest, I thought Trips looked sort of goofy with the suit and ponytail.
Other guys did it because they were balding. Christian, Big Show, Robert Roode, Punk, Aries
Now Hogan wants to do it so he looks EXACTLY like Superstar Billy Graham
There is no real reason. As far as current guys, wrestling has changed. Vince wants a more mainstream product with more crossover appeal, less character-driven. Dreads are big with African American athletes, so Kofi is in style. Ziggler's hair isn't exactly long, just medium, so not exactly OUT of style. Besides, his character is the show off, and we all saw how he lost all of his flash when he walked out with the Evan Bourne.
Shawn Michaels should NEVER cut his hair

Hey, remember how the Unamericans were allegedly broken up because they refused to get haircuts?
Remember what happened within a year afterwards?

Each time Orton hit him in the head, many pieces of hair broke and fell off. I think he's gonna need to sport the Bourne gimmick for a couple months again until his hair recovers and re-grows.

Bret, and Shawn. And Adam Cole. And Jeff FREAKING HARDY. Kinda a big one there... And James Storm. And Kofi Kingston (Just cause he's black doesn't mean he doesn't count.) Billy Gunn and X-Pac never cut their hair. Kane's return with long hair. Mark Henry's hair is still long. Kane's hair is fake I think it's more just that long hair isn't trendy at the moment. In the 80's and 90's, long hair was much more popular in general; metalheads, yuppies, grunge etc. Nowadays it's pretty much social suicide to wear a ponytail, and very few dudes pull off the long hair look. I get what you mean though. And yes this is exactly the reason. It's just not the style anymore. But I do think in HHHs case, he was doing it to go for the more corporate look rather than following a certain trend.

Not really, I doubt it "broke off" it likely fell out. His hair isn't naturally that color, the amount of bleaching that's done to it isn't good for it whether it's done professionally or not. As someone who used to beach and dye his hair frequently, I can attest to it falling out from being heavily destroyed.
