Am I the only one who feels it was more fun to collect the figures when Jakks had the WWE Line? Don't get me wrong, Mattel does a great job, its just not as fun collecting to me

Most likely cause you're getting older or because Jakks produced a lot of obscure names.

I still get a kick out of collecting, but sometimes the rising prices can be a damper. I'd also like to think I'm more selective with my purchases now. Coming from someone who bought TWO Orlando Jordan figures, I don't feel a need to buy a Rob Terry action figure or another Hornswoggle.

I don't collect Mattel's. I really want HBK in red tights but I'd have the BCA over the Royal Rumble Heritage any day. I think it's just with the amount of different ranges that Jakks had, there were more figures to like. Add that to the MASSIVE back catalogue that Jakks have.

My collecting interest is at an all-time low - and I have collected continuosly since 1994. If you looked hard enough, you could always find Jakks WWE figures in stores. Mattel's notorious distribution problems + Jakks TNA figures only being available online has virtually eliminated the fun in the hunt for me.

Mattel's distribution has definitely lowered the level of joy. I think the figures are really good, but Jakks did a much better job of getting the figures regularly into stores.

Yeah, Mattel has made it harder and pricier to collect anything lately. I have been able to find what I am looking for, but it takes me a while and can be really frustrating.

I have found myself getting more jakks figures then mattel as of late. It seems like none of the stores around me never stock and that takes the fun out of it for me.

I collect Jakks, the new TNA line. It was so incredible to see Samoa Joe Jakks figures made. The old school mattel ones meant nothing to me (the old TNA line.)
I've always collected Jakks, since I was 9 or so. When they jumped to TNA, by that time I Was already sick of the 'E' and loved TNA, so it didn't hurt my feelings to start collecting again.
I think today it's a completely different thing when it comes to collecting. It's like back in the day when we used to trade VHS Tapes just to see decent wrestling, but now it's all on YouTube.

I have pretty much everything I need jakks wise, and just customizing what was never made. Mattels have failed to capture my imagination.

I used to LOVE to go into the Toy store in the mall and have a look at all teh figures, as it was always pumping thru new lines, but since Ive just gotten back into collecting again, it does seem somewhat more online oriented... which kinda takes the fun out of it AND usually gouges the good ole wallet =(

Glad to see I am not alone on this one. I have said this for the past few months but for me personally, ebay has been the source of fun collecting. I have been getting a lot of jakks stuff and things I don't have but it has been a blast so far. I did manage to find E16 Diesel in walmart but at the same time Mattel's distribution is primarily weak. The fact the figures are so expensive even in stores is what kills it. Parents who aren't into wrestling won't probably want to pay $15-$22 for one figure. back in the day, you could usually get 2-3 figures for 22. My philosophy is that wrestling figure collectors are the ones that are killing the fun for a good amount of us. A lot of them are so nit picky and even nit pick on Mattel's figures now that it raises makes the figures more costly because more detail has to be added in all to cater to the people who just complain. I have two points in this, 1: WWE Jakks was greater due to better names and 2: A great amount of wrestling fans are spoiled.

I only collected Legends/Classics...I enjoyed what Jakks did at the time and collected everything they had but while Jakks put out many many many more names/figures then Mattel has in their legends line, I still prefer the quality of the Mattel Legends over that of Jakks.

Once JAKKS' CS line ended I thought my collecting ended. But with their LOTR I thought it was the sequel us classic'legends collectors hoped for. However that didn't last. I never got into Mattel. While they definitely have some great stuff, I just never made the switch and focused more on making my CS/LOTR collection the most complete collection there could be. I have found myself searching more for CS prototypes and test shots than actual figures.
I wish JAKKS had had another two or three years with the CS line. I think two more years would have gotten us so many names CS collectors had hoped for since day 1 (Savage, Von Erichs, Steamboat, etc). But at the same time, my wife and I had two beautiful boys and a lot of my attention and financial resourses have gone to give them all we can give them.
I do wish JAKKS' LOTR line had caught on but not to the depth and frequency of their CS line as I think it would just be too much of a financial stress for me. I do think collecting isn't as fun as it was when the CS line was hot. It wasn't just buying the figures that I enjoyed, but the sudden announcements of new signings, prototype images, MOC images, and even line-up schedules. The last two figures I bought were LOTR Raven & Terry Taylor. The former was over a year ago and the latter was about 8 months ago. Iwould have loved one LOTR every Di set if there were 5-7 DI sets a year. Sadly I just don't see it happening any time soon.

Yeah, it's mainly the prices on the mattell figures, the legends figures are 14.99! For one figure that is just ridiculous, the jakks classic figures were 9.99-11.99 and thats still a little steep, but it's defiently reasonable.

Especially when it comes to the high Ringside prices, they will pay for it, which is why its so high and harder for us who cant order complete sets to get them.

Something about Jakks just had some particular edge that made it much more entertaining to collect to that of Mattel.

Something about Jakks just had some particular edge that made it much more entertaining to collect to that of Mattel. Easy, each figure came with accessories. It wasn't a "buy this figure for extra articulation and attire or a 2 pack" no. RAs and CSs came with either proper accessories or weapons. They were a reasonable price too. Now it's WAY too split. People either just collect elites, or just basics or whatever. Overall, despite me owning 100 or so Mattels, I two miss jakks. I got into Mattel because of Steamboat and Macho but at this point, I wish I just bought a few customs from Skribbel or someone.

To me it's the price point. That and how only K-mart and online retailers carry TNA figures. Mattel keeps climbing in price. Remember when an Elite was 16.00 after tax, and now they are a minimum of 16.99-17.99 and in some cases in some places as much as 20.99 before tax.
The TNA figures are cool and affordable, but finding them is a pain, and there aren't enough coming out to keep the interest going. I hope that the rapid succession of wave 7 and 8 means they're back on track and that 9 will be here for Christmas.
