I don't miss Jakks at all. Sure they made referees and announcers and managers, but that time is now gone. Yes they had better distribution than Mattel I'll give them that.

I agree, I think the problem is Mattel's distribution because of the reasons already said, here where I live we barely get any mattel...we are in Elite 4 and Basic 3 and we don`t even get the entire sets for each series, we get the shelfwarmers of the US stores....

Jakks gave collectors everything they needed, and did not try to squeeze them for blood by making them collect repaints to get a background, or suited figure.

I still love collecting but I whole-heartedly agree that we collectors are the ones sucking the fun out of this hobby. Nit-pick complaints about deco and articulation have driven the price points sky high. Maybe I am just stuck in the old days when I was happy if my figures arms, legs, and heads moved.

Once Jakks ended, so did my collecting brand name figures! I just search all the ones I missed from Jakks on eBay and pretty much finished what I needed. I couldn't get into Mattel. The prices are ridiculously high compared to when Jakks was around. The only good thing about Mattel is that when it took over, the prices of Jakks dropped on eBay, because eBay stores wanted to clear out Jakks to get Mattel. When that happened, I made a huge rush to get all the Jakks I wanted that were pricier before. I haven't bought Jakks for a while, so I don't know if they are still low.
No matter what you collect, there will always be a lull in collecting, especially when you have so many in your collection or are near completion. When there is a lull, the fun just goes away sometimes. I got into collecting vintage knock off wrestlers after Jakks ended and I am currently in a lull there, too. I have a lot and have finished one set already and I am close to finishing the others as well.

After collecting over 1,000 figures and i started with Jakks Classics line, it has become much less fun for me.
I only buy Elite now and those i know will only be made once or twice. Like Jinder Mahal, Trent Baretta and the 2 of Mason Ryan.

i just miss the fact that jakks' distribution was clockwork and consistent
people would "report" finding a new series out on the west coast on this board and 4-5 weeks later it would show up in my area everywhere...multiple cases and all the cases were typically even packed...at least with the male superstars.
i never had to run around to 15 stores to try and find a set...none of the TRUs i frequent ever missed sets. it was just a LOT easier to collect with jakks running the show.

My treasure hunts now are predominantly done at Thrift stores, on Craigslist and at local toy stores. I can't afford to buy the figures new, but there is something fun about seeing how many good ones I can grab from alternative places. Just found myself a haul of Jakks Classics from a kid who had "grown out" of those silly childish toys...
....man I regret that phase....glad that I can benefit from someone else being foolish : )
Picked up the Nasty Boys, Hall and Nash, Razor Ramon, Diesel, the 123 Kid, Hollywood Hogan, The Hart Foundation, Ric Flair, Warrior in some random Cyborg one Piece, Bundy, Vader, Luger, Malenko, Arn Anderson, The Sandman, Paul Heyman, Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross, Brutus Beefcake, The Road Warriors and the Steiners...all for $125. The kid was sweet about taking care of them and they had all their accessories, so I feel like I scored pretty large. He even threw in a bunch of extra gear, basically let me ransack his storage bin.

I tried my hand at collecting Mattel during the first half of 2010, but I lost interest and haven't been tempted to go back to it.
I think the figures are great, probably even an improvement upon Jakks to tell you the truth, but I don't have the desire to start over again. Nor do I have the funds or space to keep up with all of the new series each month.
Oh, and there are plenty of other things I can think of, including adding to my Jakks BCA collection, before I'd look to Mattel's WWE line for my collecting fix.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the old days of Jakks having the WWE license. I certainly wouldn't sacrifice quality now like I would have in those days, but the RA/CS/CSDA/BNB lines were very fun to collect during their time.
I doubt I'll ever have that feeling again with the current Mattel WWE product (again, that concerns my habits and growth as a collector, not the actual quality of the figures).
