I think I'm one of the few people who like it. I saw it when I was younger, so that amy have something to do with it. I think compared to the rest, it isn't as strong, but it definitely has it's moments.
I can understand why people dislike it so much, as it's really not what you expect from a "Rocky" movie. I enjoy it. Sue me.
(Pun completely intended.)

It's probably my favorite Rocky movie tied with Rocky III. In the original draft of Rocky V, Rocky was supposed to die in the street fight with Tommy Gunn. I can see why people hate it so much because it doesn't follow the formula that the others have.

If I had to guess, I'd say one of the reasons people didn't like it is because Rocky didn't have a big boxing match.
Also, it was kind of a downer after Rocky ended the Cold War at the end of IV to have him be broke and brain-damaged in V.

It's definitely my least favorite Rocky, but I don't have a strong hatred for it like some. For the longest time it looked like that would be the last one, & I didn't want to see the Rocky series end after a street fight. After Rocky Balboa came out, I thought it was a great sendoff. I think it let me lay off V a little bit more because of it

Just Go for it!
I didnt like it because to me a rocky movie is, at the very least, about rocky balboa and his boxing career. In 5 though we see Rocky fall on tough times (which would have been kinda cool to see a movie about this) and he trains someone else. And then the movie goes off and leaves Rocky behind by focusing more on Tommy and Rocky's son.
And then in the end we get a weak fight. Compare the fight to all of the fights in previous Rocky movies, I think youll see and agree that the fight in RockyV is the lamest.

My only problem with the movie is that how did Rocky's son age so quickly if the movie picks up right after IV? I also felt the movie was very underrated.

it was so campy and family aimed at that point that it definetly lacked the quality of the earlier films.

Pretty much what's been already said. It was just too different from the formula used in Rocky I-IV. It's not a horrible movie by any means, but in my opinion the worst of the series.

it's my least favorite out of the six movies, but that does not mean I do not like it. I think its good, but if I had to make a list of the Rocky movies it would be last every time.

I loved Rocky V... I think it ended perfectly - he'd come full circle and was happy and content. And the bit with his son at the steps was great. The only problem I have with it is that Tommy could (should?) have been redeemed... he was basically a good person, corrupted by a wicked promoter. I don't know if you guys know about the "Director's Cut/Work-Print" version of the movie (it's available in 6 parts on YouTube)... the end fight differs from the theatrical release quite a bit: it shows more how Rocky cares about Tommy - they share a look of respect afterwards and shake hands, which was a fantastic touch and really should have been in the released version. Here ya go (from about 5:30 in) - And here's an alternate opening (with Vince Diacola's awesome score) -
