I loved JBL's theme, The stalk market bell at the begining and I would always lol when I would here the cow moo. It reminded me of the 80's TV drama Dallas's theme, and it made perfect sense for JBL's character - a rutheless Texas Business Tycoon just like the character JR (not the anouncer) on Dallas.

I really liked Christians entrance song when he first went solo from Edge...The Queen-like intro was awesome and the basic guitar and drums set the pace for his character.
I agree with the less is more comments about not having lyrics on theme songs...for example, when Disturbed put lyrics to Stone Cold's entrance it was horrible, and short lived (Thank God).
The other side of that is the DX theme. An amazing entrance song. It has the attention getting start, solid rock guitar riffs, great drums and I personally think that the lyrics make the song. Another would be Mr. McMahon's entrance song. Attention getting start, great lyrics and the song fits the character...
Then again, just my opinion.

You can usually tell a good push is coming when they get a revamped theme with words. Only exception to me is Alex Riley. When he debuted his new theme, I swear he was going to fly up the card after fueding with miz lol
So yes, theme is EXTREMELY important.

"I've had enough, I'll make 'em see, they'll never take another drop of blood from me, and judge you all, one final bow, I'll be your End of Days. Blood in the streets the royals fall, I will do what I must til I see them crawl up to me, where they will see, I'll be your End of Days
I'll be your End of Days!"

I know I'll catch some flack for this, but best theme song of all time? 2002 Big Evil Red Devil Undertaker PRIOR to lyrics. Back when it was just a nasty guitar rift after the "Dead Man Walking". Couldn't have been more aggressive, while being simply a couple of guitars and a drum. I swear I thought literally me and 2 of my friends were the ONLY people on earth that thought that version of his theme was the best one he had as the ABA I join in this sentiment. I also thought Randy Orton's Evolution theme and Eddie Guerrero's themes were amazing.

Completely agree. It has a huge impact on how the character is received when they enter. It definitely plays a role and creates an impression.

No love for Carlito?
The sound of him spitting, followed by his catch phrase, made you excited. Whether you were cheering or booing, you always thought "Here comes Carlito!"

Brock Lesnar and Goldberg are also two guys with new lyrics to their themes yet those themes were Badass. Like when Lesnar returned this year as soon as that riff hit at the start of the song people knew who it was despite not hearing it for 8 years. 3 other themes I always liked with lyrics are Kane's in 2003, Undertaker's "You're Gonna pay" with lyrics and Edge's from 2005-

final version of Corre Theme > any theme Wade Barrett has had and he hated it, such a shame.
David Otunga's theme is pretty badass to be honest, if the WWE would treat him as a legitimate superstar it would really help.

A few of my favorites that do not have lyrics.
WWE has shifted to giving nearly everybody actual songs for entrance music these days. While I prefer the older themes, it is probably easier to sell legitimate songs on iTunes as opposed to old school, instrumental wrestling music.
Some themes with lyrics work great! Guys like Hogan and Orton have awesome music that fits their persona. However, for some of the current guys, lyrics kind of hinder the character because most of these newer songs are all starting to sound alike. Back in the day, Jim Johnston was cranking out some awesome original tracks. Almost all of the songs he produced were lyric-free so he had to rely on instrument alone in order to capture the likeness of the Superstars. He experimented with warped guitar riffs, somber organs, menacing drums; all different kinds of sounds were used and the finished product was always pretty riveting.
Dolph Ziggler and Mr. Perfect are good examples of two guys from different generations with comparable gimmicks. For one theme, you have a standard rock sound with a guy repeating over and over "I Am Perfection" to get the message across. For the other, you have a theme that contains no words, but because of how beautifully it is composed it still envisions a person who is very important and better than everybody else.
Not a knock on anybody, just an example of how times have changed in wrestling.

One theme I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet, that is a perfect example of being instantly recognizable and really being part of a successful wrestlers persona, is the Million Dollar Man. That laugh starting out the music, is probably, at least for me, one of the most recognizable songs in wrestling. And really, I don't think I could imagine DiBiase using anything but that song.

Great character. Great promos. Great theme. And the guy was a damn good wrestler too. If only everybody could have a gimmick even half as good as the Million Dollar Man...

funny about DB he had an instrumental theme right before the original Flight of the Valkyries that was AWESOME
here:
it always just stood out to me as being cool, sounded "old school" and it had impact. the biggest problem was it seemed that it wasn't played loud enough in the arenas.
when he switched to Valkyries i wasn't sold at first...but the newer "rock" version has definitley grown on me
