Good morning everyone Since I live in Australia, and don't see myself going to America for just a few TV Tapings or WWE coming here for TV Tapings, I've been wondering, how is SmackDown! Live? With RAW I get it's much better, crowd's more excited, big names are always there, a great show. SmackDown! always appears as boring, even when Cena, Punk, and Triple H show up. And with WWE always piping the crowds reactions, you don't an idea of what it's really like. So is it boring at SmackDown! tapings compared to RAW tapings? If WWE did SmackDown! Live on say Fridays, no crowd piping, bigger names show up, try and make the show interesting once in a while, do you think it would be better? I would do two live SmackDown!'s on January 4th and January 11th, and see how they go. If well, then WWE moves it there permanently. Having them taped on Tuesday and knowing it's being done on a Tuesday gives a weird feel sometimes. "We are live tonight!" Then make it feel live. What do you guys think? - One In Need Of Enlightenment.

It would cost too much to do Smackdown live every week, and wouldn't make enough difference to ratings for it to be worthwhile.
Smackdown tapings do tend to be more boring than Raw -- or did before the three-hour Raws, at least. I haven't been to a TV Raw since they started. Smackdown usually has more dull characters that nobody cares about having long, pointless matches that nobody cares about. The Smackdown taping I went to in 2009 was the worst. The first ever Undertaker vs Jericho match was a disappointment, and the whole taping was just bored and dead after this Drew McIntyre beatdown on Finlay that went on for about half an hour or more. I never even watched the show that week it was so bad.

I'll let you know after this Tuesday. Id imagine the pace of the taping is a lot slower since they know they can take their time and edit things out.

Thanks KIDM, always wanted to know since they have to edit and "pipe" the reactions to almost everything.

I've been to a few SD! taings. It is definitely the "B" show. A lot more developmental talent is featured in the dark matches. It doesn't have that "live TV" environment and it just feels a lot different. Also, SD! usually sells less tickets, so sometimes the whole hard camera side is completely empty as is the upper level of the arena (curtained off). SD! tends to use less pyro and of course, it's a shorter show now that Raw is 3 hours. But I think it's still worth going to. It's still better than a SD! house show...

SmackDown is a slower pace... feels more like you are at the taping of a television show.
RAW us LIVE and exciting... feels more like a sporting event where anything can happen.
I thoroughly enjoy both, but RAW is a more exciting vibe for me, personally.

RAW is a very tense show and you can tell the wrestlers are working for the cameras, to a tight schedule and don't give a about the live audience. This is purely because of creative and Mr. McMahon changing things at last minute so often. I had read that complete matches are scrapped on the regular due to the opening segment running 8-10 minutes too long...

RAW is crap live. I've been to so many RAW and SmackDown tapings and I think all apart from 1, maybe 2, were worse than the SmackDown one. RAW is a very tense show and you can tell the wrestlers are working for the cameras, to a tight schedule and don't give a about the live audience. SmackDown tends to have the better wrestling matches and if you're an apparent "intelligent wrestling fan" but only go to a wrestling show for the star power on it and not the amount of in ring talent a wrestler has, then you're pretty much exposing yourself as a fraud. SmackDown, especially when ECW was taped before it was exceptional. Oh and if you're going to judge a taped show because maybe someone refers to the fact it's supposed to be a Friday, then me, humanity is doomed. Especially for the fact you can't hear the commentators and the worst the "referring to Friday" gets is when someone says "4 nights ago on RAW" or "5 nights ago at (PPV)" once in a promo. While I wouldn't necessarily say Raw is crap, I agree that Smackdown is generally much better. Ive been to several of each as well, and yes Smackdown has more WRESTLING which is what should count. Only other difference is Raw has to run smoothly, as its seen on tv, no matter what. 90% of the time, Smackdown goes the same way, but it has occasionally been somewhat choppy. The only thing I'd consistently pick over Raw or Smackdown is a PPV; that always has the big event/name feel, crowd excitement (hopefully), and solid wrestling matches.
