It would be interesting to have versions of the belt made that aren't made to go around the waste, but molded in a J-shape to replicate Superstars who hold the belt on their shoulder and let it dangle i.e. Miz, Orton, Kane, etc. You could even mold the end of the strap to look real instead of the holes and pegs. Thoughts?

All you need to do is curve one end of the belt and flatten it. I've done it with the WWE Championship for my CM Punk figure and it works fine.

He suggested the strap looking like the actual strap. The Jakks ones all had the grooves on them for fastening around the waist.

The only way I've found to do it is to close the belt's fasteners( so it looks like an "O") & then loop it over the arm/shoulder. If you don't close the belt, they won't stay on the shoulder.
