"Every dream has a start and, sometimes, it's not as good as we'd hope..."

This young boy was born on December 23rd, 1990 in Mexicali, Mexico. Errr... Let's start this again. This young boy was born on December 23rd, 1990 in Santa Maria, California. Okay, they're telling me this is my autobiography and I can't lie to my audience. I was born in Mexico, but don't tell anybody!
Both of my parents are Mexican too. Back at the time they met, Mexicali was a really small town. People were starting to inmigrate there because they had a job for everyone. Some others were expecting to cross the border to the US, but that's another story. Almost everyone on the neighborhood and its surroundings knew each other. My mom's sister loved to go outside to a near park and play. That is where my good ol' uncle met the man, then kid, who would go onto becoming my father. When my mom first saw him walking back home after school, she instantly fell in love. That's right, mom says love at first sight does exist. Dad knew this and he took advantage of that situation. He was four years older than her and, at that time, that played a big part of what would happen next. My mom's brother was more than happy to see his friend and his sister falling in love with each other. In the Christmas eve of almost 30 years ago, mom, after being so desperate and impacient, asked my dad for a serious relationship. He kissed her and that was the start of a nine year relationship. They had their tough times like every couple. I still think they went through many though. For some reason, I hate this, but I was another example of things not going as expected. My parents weren't married and I was on my race onto first seeing the lights of this world. Yeah, my parents were one of those that committed the sin of having sex before getting married. To this day, I'm still not sure if I was able to make it at the first try, or if they just got lucky and made it for some time until, fortunately or unfortunately, I hit not the nail, but the ovum.
Five months before giving birth, my parents got married. Two months later, my dad got the job in the company to this day he still works for.
Mom, as a kid, used to love spying my grandma while she was wrapping her Christmas presents. This time, she knew what her Christmas present would be 9 months in advance, and not only that but she also got it a day early!
So that would be the start... A hopeful woman and a loving man. Sadly, that wouldn't last long...

I would be lying if I told you the following is something I remember clearly. The following is based purely on mom's stories and pictures which, in a not too far future, you'll be able to notice don't necessarily tell you the truth.
Dad decided he had to quit college in order to make a living for his newly formed family. He started working for Mexico's Frito Lay company. He would leave before 7 AM before smiling at me. He would carry me as high as he could while I'd smile back at him. Mom, at kitchen, would look at us while preparing breakfast for him. I would then stay on the cradle, sitting and watching as he was leaving home. I would then take my first nap of the day. We didn't have much money, so grandma made up some space so we could stay at her place while our financial situation got better. That wasn't something uncomfortable for her. In fact, she was grateful to have us there... Or me for that matter, as I was the first of four grandsons.
I don't really remember much of those times. I do remember though that for some time I wouldn't see Dad coming back home. A kid could only get sad and think he was probably working harder so he could get me more Christmas presents, but that was far from the reality, because not only did I not see him anymore at night, but I would also wouldn't see him after waking up the next day. I couldn't figure out an explanation until I had to heard it myself. "I miss him". Mom said while inconsolably crying. "He's an idiot. He doesn't deserve you" was the reply I heard Mom got from my grandma.
I definitely didn't know what was going on. How dare grandma take about my Dad like that! After all he's done for us... She was clearly under appreciating him... Of course, kids always say what the think, but only a few times they are right...
