so JYD was one hell of a telent in his time and CHRIST was he over in Watts Mid South outfit.
it must have been insane to witness JYDs return against the Freebirds after they "blinded" him and he didnt witness the birth of his child......was it 60,000 turned out at the dome in New Orleans to see him take on Hayes?
his feuds with Dibiase and One Man Gang were also greatness.
memories of JYD anyone?

Didn't see him much. Did he win the Hayes match? In any case, I felt like he was a uncrowned peoples champ. Was very surprised WWF ever let him go. He also never fared well in WWF PPV's where I think he should have went over more than he did: Funk's beat he and Tito, Race beat him, he was an after thought in the WM4 battle royal. But in all, he lost all those matches and was still a draw.

i have respect for the guy, he was hella-over, and i watched him pretty much through his whole WWF run.
that said,he never did it for me. i mean,he was a likeale character, the fans loved him, and i can't say i ever saw a "bad" match he was in. but he just never overly interested me. probably because i got the watered-down WWF version rather than the fiery Mid-South version.

I hate to disagree with you Joker...you're my boy and all but...
I really don't care for JYD. Never have, never will. Maybe its because I've only seen his WWF stuff but I thought he was terrible and cartoony even for that time period.

I am fond of JYD because he was one of the first "characters" that helped hook me as a wrestling fan. (I was just a kid, so his charisma meant more to me than his work rate). He got lazy in the WWF but he had a ton of personality.

This pretty much sums it up for me. I was never that into him. And his head but on all fours always bugged me.

He was one of my favorites as a kid, and I used to juke around the house Looking back now, he was a good brawler and incredibly charismatic. I haven't seen a ton of his mid south stuff, but I've enjoyed what I have seen. I actually used to have a vhs of mid south TV shows from the time of his feud with Leroy Brown. That was a lot of fun to watch. To use a distinction of an old friend of mine, JYD wasn't one of the best wrestlers, but he was a great worker.

I've never really seen much of JYD's work outside of the WWF. I've seen tidbits but have never been that keen on him. Always liked some of his attires though .

I remember seeing him in stampede matches as Sweet Daddy Ritter as a heel. He has many great fueds, I only wish they would have given him an IC run.
I also remember when heleft WWF and went to NWA and feuded with ric flair for the title.

I loved watching him in Mid-South when I was a kid. Not a great technician, but a good brawler who was very entertaining. Loved his feuds with DiBiase (his slow backwards leaning fall to the mat after getting hit by the loaded glove is a thing of beauty), and "Hacksaw" Butch Reed. Coming out to "Another One Bites The Dust" and he'd boogie on the ring apron with the dog collar and chain, I'd get pretty hyped up watching. Always cheered for him when he got to Vince-land, but his matches just weren't as good, pretty similar to "Hacksaw" Duggan when he got there. By the time he went to WCW as part of the "Dudes with Attitude" he was so slow and out of shape, it was pretty embarrasing. That Ric Flair couldn't get a decent match out of him is quite telling. RIP JYD.
