So how does everyone feel about this upcoming series? Honestly i'm so pumped for this book after the crazy reveal in ASM 698 and the mystery of who the new Spider-Man is gonna be. It's a good time to be a Spidey fan, thats for damn sure (though Cullen Bunn needs to get the hell away from Venom). Who do you think will be the new Spider-Man? I'm not sure if they'll end up having Spider-Ock as the new status quo, but I reallllly wish it'd be Phil Urich where maybe Ben Urich is killed off and becomes Phil's darker Uncle Ben moment. DISCUSS.

I wish with all the marvel now stuff they would have given the main spider-man book to almost anyone but Dan Slott.

Until ASM 700 hits I think most people are holding back their true hopes. The interviews with the creative teams of ASM and SSM are so full of smark humor and jokes it is getting old. Playing Peter Parker off as Hal Jordan and the "new" Spider-man as Kyle Rayner is a tad funny but saying people will forget Peter and eventually the next generation of comic fans will only grow up with the new characters and status quo that no one will care is just making fans apathetic to the change.
Personally I see this going to ways, either its Parker's body being controlled and eventually he returns or someone else is placed in the costume which will lead to a clone era run which ends when Marvel sees no bump in sales following the next movie. Either way classic Peter ends up back in the mask as radical changes will bring back readers for a while but eventually they get bored again and new readers will wonder what happened to the real Spider-man.
I am interested in how the new stories will play out, but just do not see how this will help the brand for the long haul (Including future movies, cartoons and most importantly TPB sales)

So spoilers for the final issue are now online, that ending is uhh....something, and the new spider-man is not who I thought it was going to be.

I'm not believing anything until the issue is in my hands. I mean Slott has put out several red herrings in the past couple of months as to who the new Spider-Man will be, so anything is possible.

It's obviously not going to be forever, and I give them credit for taking such a bold chance. It's a very ballsy move to do what they did and who knows? Maybe some good stories will come from it. And the status quo will revert soon enough anyway.
That said, I doubt I'll put Superior Spider-Man on my pull.

I read the first issue and the ending leaves anything possible. I just think it's a fresh change of pace for however long they decide to drag this out for.

I've read them all so far, and while I thought 3 was a great issue full of good characterization for Ock, 5 was a misstep. Not terrible, but a little too soon for what happened. In the grand scheme it might be okay.
The one thing I will say. A flaw of sorts in the book so far has been Ock having genius ideas to be a better Spider-man than Peter was, and Peter giving the devil his due, a lot. Was Peter really that awful? No, this is just a plot device to push Ock forward. Why it's good for the book despite being flawed writing (really, kill everyone's beloved character and then say he wasn't that good anyway?) is that it will have to be reconciled when Peter inevitably returns to his body and the character will forge ahead again, barring some other deal with Mephisto to take us back to status quo b.s. again.

I dont like it at all. I read Spiderman for nearly 300 issues and quit when this happened. I honestly thing Dan Slott is a great writer it's just this is such a terrible idea.
