CUSTOMANIAThe Lineup Consisted of the following ChristianEdge vs Maskedsuperstarfan Powers of Pain 88 vs World Title Contender CrazyWrestler vs WWEThunder12 Due to no shows, I decided to put Powers of Pain 88 against Crazy Wrestler. ChristianEdge vs MaskedSuperstarFanChristianEdge - Bhoy Lechon - Made up Character(He cleared this with me prior) Backstory:6'9" 337 lbs From The Phillipine Islands Finishing Move: "Lechon Kawali" (Second Rope Diving Leg Drop) Being made fun for being too big during his childhood, Bhoy was teased at school. He became a recluse and watched wrestling at home. There he watched "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan being praised by the millions of Hulkamaniacs. Bhoy wanted the love, and emulated Hulk's every move. He was teased again, this time for being unoriginal. Now he vows, not only to become champion, but the ruler of the people. MaskedSuperstarFan - Charlie Brown From Outta TownPowers of Pain 88 vs CrazywrestlerPowers of Pain 88 - UndertakerCrazywrestler - Robbie EMore pictures including some reference pics and work in progress found here: s269.beta.photobucket.com/user/gonzocustoms/library/Competition/dec2012?

Hey Masked, my guy was made up. I thought there was going to be a stip for fantasy characters. If you wanna do an actual battle with the same stip for both of us other than being open let me know.

Hey Masked, my guy was made up. I thought there was going to be a stip for fantasy characters. If you wanna do an actual battle with the same stip for both of us other than being open let me know. For the record, that's a great looking custom, Especially after seeing the WIP pics, I could tell you put in a great effort resculpting the Dusty head and giving a nice, smoth paintjob. I wanted my custom to be a real wrestler, but one that had never been done before. Unfortunately, I had a lot of "real life" setbacks and ended up turning in a rushed custom that wasn't really to my liking. Real life sucks -Lol! As for a "rematch", if we can come to an agreement on stips, I'm all for it for the January Customania. Personally, I'm more in tune with older stars (70's-90's), but if I'm motivated enough, I'm good for anything. Good job, dude!

Good customs from everybody who turned the work in. Powers of Pain I really like that Undertaker you did, it is really awesome seeing him in the red.
Christian pnp great job on a fantasy wrestler looks really cool and brings back the memories of playing some of the older wrestling games on the nintendo 64 and early PS2.
Masked Superstar great job capturing the likeness of Charlie Brown very interesting part choice you had there.
My Robbie E did not turn out as planned the hair did not want to stay put

It's hard to judge a fictional vs actual character. The fictional custom can be anything and there is nothing to compare it to, but MSF made something that has direct reference pics and if he didn't get the part selection right it is evident.
That said, sculpting looks pretty good on Bhoy. Nice skintone. The black outline on the boots could use some retouching.
MSF Charlie Brown: Sculpting is pretty good. The only suggestion I have for it would be to make the beard a little less round. As it is now, the beard is too uniform around the edges. What is impressive, however, is the line work inside the beard and on the hair. You managed to make it look like hair. That's something a lot of people struggle with and basically end up just drawing line with their sculpting tools in the clay. Nice dry brushing, but the under coat is too yellow. Good head choice. Never thought Kidman would work for Boogie but it does. Torso is a little thick though.
Winner: MSF Charlie Brown
Powers of Pain 88 vs Crazywrestler
A couple more pics of the Taker would have been more helpful, especially WIP pics, because as it is it looks more like a fixup than a custom. The red paint looks pretty good. Red is reeeaaally hard to get to cover. My concern is that it looks tacky. Not tacky poor taste but tacky sticky. It could be the flash bouncing off your sealer though. Touch up the black lines on his tie a bit and you'll be all set on this piece.
The Robbie E....I can tell you are a new customizer so I won't rip this apart, and I'll try to give you some helpful hints.
Tape is your friend. The best way to ensure straight lines is to tape them off. Let the paint dry fully before pulling it off because it can pull your paint off if not 100% dry.
Google hair sculpting tutorials. There are some great videos about it on YouTube also.
If you are swapping parts make sure the skintones match or do a custom skintone. It could be fantastic everywhere else, but if you skip this step it makes the figure look bad. A lot of guys that used to frequent this board don't consider it a true custom unless it has a skintone.
Keep practicing and don't get discouraged. Starting out, we all put out stuff that was less than stellar.

personally i like the custom. its put together well the painting is nice and the sculpting looks ok..........but,i wish you could have had a concept drawing or reference picture and due soley on that i cant give you the vctory.
MSF Charlie Brown:
this is pretty funny, it actually reminds me of my old work, and i beleive this is the first ever custom of him that ive seen. i can see alot of work went into this custom. the sculpting looks a bit chunky but im not sure if its just your camera, same goes for the painting....its a bit chunky. overall its a nice custom, keep it up
Winner: MSF Charlie Brown
Powers of Pain 88 vs Crazywrestler
undertaker.
from what i see it looks like a simple repaint of a couple of parts, it looks odd to me....not a fan of the red color. it also is a tad bit shiny.....maybe too much sealer?
The Robbie E
im not going to lie. it looks pretty rough. must be a new guy to customizing. make sure the skin tones match when swapping parts...if not it looks weird. sculpting.....make sure you paint every bit of it, if not you get that white popin though....i assume you used sculpy. the painting is also rough but i get what you were trying to do. practice practice practice.....you can only get better....i am an example of that.....even though it took yearrrrrrs.

i like the idea of making a customania around fantasy wrestlers instead of doing work on real wrestlers. If anyone wants to do a simple 1 v 1 like this, id be down

Thanks for the feedback, fellas. It was difficult finding a decent base color for Brown's beard, it was always way too yellow or way too white. The camera flash always seems to bring out the flaws, as it doesn't look quite as bad in person. The shirt was done a little chunky on purpose as he wore his shirt a little loose and not "skintight". But yeah, it just ended up looking chunky. Also, I wanted to print out decals for the "Charlie Brown" text (and "From Outta Town" that's on his back that I didn't get a picture of) I wasn't able to, so I had to quickly freehand it which made it look even worse. I probably should have just left it off totally. Looking forward to the January Customania!

The freehand looked pretty good really. I'm one of the few guys that isn't bothered by decals though. I've done enough McFarlane SP's to see that making a good decal takes talent too. In the future just keep in mind that not everybody feels the way I do about them.
Hopefully this is the start of a new custom comp.cycle.

Thanks for everyone's efforts, sorry it only ended up being 2 matches, and sorry about my long ass delay in posting from Sunday to Friday, lol.
It's great in a sense to see this board kind of on a reboot. Many of the old faces are no longer here, there's lots of new guys around that are making the efforts. Definitely a lot of growing to do all around, but ChristianEdge and Masked have come a long way over the last year or two. Nice to see people develop their skills and continue to grow. Hell, I've been making customs since 98 or 99 when I was still in high school. I would say I never really did a real custom until 2000 or so when I first started sculpting. To this day, I still find myself learning new techniques and improving. Keep the drive and move forward, if you work on it enough you will become great.

Maybe the judges can give a stip or person for me and masked to create for the january one. it will be fun.
also, was there any critique on mines? so i can adjust, or make changes to process or something. I did more sculpting after the wip, but dont have any pics. I wanted to do more on the legs, but i moved recently and didnt have much time in between the packing.
I liked how masked's turned out. I think if you shaved the sides of the head a bit and then sculpted, the beard would have poofed out better.
i feel crazy did more than pop88. the tie could use a bit more work for taker. crazy, like the others said, your parts could be better in selection for skin color. i would have liked to see both of you try and use more paint. you guys prolly wanted to make them fit in your collections and keep them factory looking, but I think it would open up possibilities for you guys.
