Well it's no secret I'm an old school NWA fan who followed WWF on the peripheral, but confession #1: After Vince bought out WCW in 2000 I kinda lost a lot of interest in wrestling for a few good years. I mean I still knew who were the champs for major belts etc, but I never really watched the product as religiously as I did since the Monday Night Wars, so it's only now (through youtube) I'm realizing how deep the talent was in 2002-2003, especially on SmackDown! roster.
I've already made a Benoit fix-up and am working on a Kurt Angle (with hair) and Brock Lesnar flashback fix-up, and I have Eddie. What other major players in 2002-2003 that you recommend I collect? Already got my sights on E18 Undertaker. Oh yeah that's my #2 confession: I always hated the "Undertaker" gimmick but the ABA gimmick was so much more palatable so E18 Undertaker is looking even better for me to own.
Who else would I need for an essential 2002-2003 collection?

This is actually my roommate's favorite era of wrestling. On the Raw side, you'd need Evolution, Goldberg, RVD, Kane...
Smackdown also had Angle, World's Greatest Tag Team, Chavo!, Edge, Hogan.
As far as your confessions... I TOTALLY agree with you on #2. I don't dislike the devil Undertaker, but Big Evil was definitely my favorite era of him.

I'm with you on the ABA Taker gimmick. Actually liked that. Allowed him to show some personality. I enjoyed the original Taker, but ministry and anything current is boring to me.

I quit watching wrestling after WCW was bought as well. Not sure if I've ever even seen WM 17.
You would think that WCW & WWE being together would've made me watch more......but 2001 I graduated from highschool. Got super busy and stopped watching wrestling (and most television). I bought 1 or 2 of the WWE videogames (wrestlemania 19 and some other) during my hiatus. I had no clue who Batista or Cena were. I remember seeing Brock Lesnar for the first time in a some videogame and thinking he was like a made-up character just for the game.
Finally was flipping channels one day, saw "ECW" on tv. Some big dude named Bobby Lashely. Must have been 2007 Been watching again...ever since

same here. When WCW was bought I watched very little. Until Hogan came back to WWE. I think I completely gave up on wrestling during the Mr. America gimmick. Seeing how bad wrestling is now I really took that period for granted.
For that era...Jericho, Hogan/Mr. America, Bad Ass Taker, Big Show, Edge, Batista, Booker, Dudleys, RVD, Hardys, Shelton Benjamin, Scott Steiner, Angle, Brock.
Maybe look at the roster of the old smackdown games to get a better idea of who was there at the time?

SD!: Flash Rey L6 Eddie RAW: RSC Kane SummerSlam 2004 Heritage Randy Orton WrestleMania 21 Heritage Batista Definitely track that Summerslam Orton down. It is his best head sculpt by far and one of Mattel's best overall. RSC Kane is one of their best figures as well.

Chavo would go good w/ Eddie. They were the tag champs back in 2002.
HHH defining moments is based off of 2002 I believe.

Finished University in the early 2000s, got married in 2006 and I guess I didn't really get back into watching it until 2009-2010. I've seen bits and pieces of matches from major PPVs during that time so i generally know the outcomes and how the industry was evolving but it's those classic 5-star gem matches that i missed out on during the weekly SD! or RAW shows. I just watched a Lesnar vs Benoit SD! main event from 2003 and it was light-years better than any of today's current main event matches. The overall quality of matches and talent depth was pretty awe-inspiring, how can you not get a 5-star match from guys like Angle, Guerrero, Benoit, Malenko, Lesnar, etc. What about Triple H? I know back then the IWC really hated him, but was he getting to that 5-star match calibur that he pulls off now? by the way check out the 2003 roster!

I'm still pretty cloudy on WWE from 2004-2007. Haven't seen much. Other than the ECW one nite stand PPVs. I remember feeling like I missed out on some good stuff that happened in 02-03......especially Brock Lesnar. I lucked out about 2 summers ago and stumbled on Justin TV. Somebody had a 24/7 feed of every RAW/SmackDown running. It just so happened that I came upon it when it was @ 2002. I watched ALOT of it during that summer. I can't believe I missed so much great wrestling HHH vs Hulk Hogan happened. This blows my mind. WHat WAS I DOING

Backlash Triple H lost the WWE Championship to Hogan. It was the darkest day in my 25+ years of watching wrestling.
And yes I agree. I never cared much for Taker till his heel run as the ABA. His feud with the Hardy's, Lesnar, Flair, Hogan, & Hunter were some of his best work.

holy crap when did THAT happen?! Backlash 2002. This is funny. I totally missed this also. I also stopped watching around the same time due to leaving school and becoming a apprentice.

I started watching in 2000-01 so my favourite undertaker gimmick was ABA/Big Evil, I'm with you on that.
Figure wise, Defining moments Triple H is a must. Rsc Kane, RVD, Edge, Batista, Randy Orton, there's so many.
First things first though, you need the greatest raw GM. Eric Bischoff.

Man if you thought 02-03 was good, 04 was very good. Eddie vs JBL was the most heated feud ever. HHH vs Benoit vs HBK for the WHC at WMXX and Backlash. Cactus Jack vs Randy Orton in a hardcore match for the IC title at backlash. And I cant believe people are leaving out Jericho and Michaels who had the MoTY IMO for 03 at WMXIX.

Hulk also tagged with Edge, he fought Vince in the street fight, took on Flair in an awesome match on raw. He even had some decent matches with Angle n Brock.
