ive got 570 loose mattels on display, my wife loves it. she loves that i am so passionate about this hobby. its not interfering with our ability to enjoy life so there's no reason to stop.
that being said, ive still had thoughts about maybe cutting down. at least in the Basics department. I feel like Elites are easy enough to collect and they will always be superior. So do I really need a Randy Orton with black trunks and white designs when i have the Elite with black trunks and white designs.
there are a few guys im always going to want as many figures as possible of (Punk...obviously, lol. Bryan, Sheamus, Mysterio, Christian) but i feel like im getting to a point where i dont need to get every orton just because it's "new" or that he has a different headscan, or every big show, etc.
the reason i havent gone all out yet is because im still at the point where i KNOW i would regret it. i need something to kind of force my hand, and ill be good to go. a collection should make you happy, because its for YOU and only YOU.

I was thinking into getting into collecitng WWE trading cards instead of figures. MUCH CHEAPER, plus it's the same thing, you have a representation of every wrestler on the roster, and they update from year to year. Hell you can buy the whole set of trading cards for the cost of a figure or two! No way. Figs are way cooler! That seems like a bad idea. Substituting one item for another. Soon you'll be hunting for all the special insert cards then all the older sets you missed. Collecting is a slippery slope.

Sports cards is not the business it was 20 years ago. They're just not worth as much as they once were.

If I ever quit it's going to be because I decide I don't want to do it anymore. I'd never quit something I love because a girl didn't like it and anybody who asks you to stop doing anything you love (I mean unless it's drugs or being an alcoholic or something illegal) is not worth your time.
My gf isn't crazy about the fact that I'm 28 and spend a lot of time and money on WWE action figures, but she realizes in the grand scheme of things there are a hell of a lot worse things I could be doing with my time and money, so if the WORST thing I ever do is buy some toys, I think I'm a pretty good person.

I agree with an earlier post....collecting makes you part of who you are. If you are that passionate and caring abou the figs, some girls really appreciate that and it is attractive to them. I work hard, make great money and have nice things. But if I was all business and didn't have my imagination and sense of humor I'd be exactly like everyone else and that doesn't work for me.
What's funny is there is an age where people (girls and guys) are extremely superficial and judgmental and that is teens through about mid-20's. after that, no one gives a damn what you do and you have your core friends established by then.

I don't have as many as figures as you do.. But I recently just sold over 40 mattels over the last 2 months. And I'm down to 52. I basically just sold the figures I didn't care to own anymore and kept the ones I like. And I must say it felt good to sell those as that money went into other figures I wanted (figma link and elite 19) and just extra cash not to mention all the extra room I have now..in my closet and on my shelf.

Wow, I didnt think I'd see this post from you. Ive been feeling the same way latly.
Heres a little story that might help, Jakks CSDA's , I Was a completist..... when I bought them all, I started making fix ups of anyone and everyone who had a jakks classic ra head.... on a deluxe body... it was ridiculous, it felt like a chore.... but i felt like i had to buy/make them all or one day id look back on my collection and regret passing on someone
when mattel took over i sold my csda collection and became a completist again of Every Legend/DM/Elite who could fit in the timeline and whatever custom and fix up i could.... again it felt like a damn chore... it was so tiring
I cut back from 200 figs down to 60 and all of a sudden i could enjoy my collection.
for once i was able to enjoy it
maybe thats the answer for you, how can you enjoy a collection of Every elite and Every basic... etc etc
Also, you have every right to a hobby but think about how you would feel if you met a girl who was obsessed to a point where she spent all her free money on something material? put yourself in an outside perspective. I heard the "never do anything for a girl...." comments. But the truth is , Everything is Best in moderation, and if any of these guys think that a girl wouldnt judge you for spending all your money on figures, they'd be crazy to think that, and the girl would be right to do so. Passion for a hobby is a great thing and no one should judge you for collecting figures, but i agree it should be toned down, but for you and no one else. I think the answer is to cut back, sell part of your collection and get a more personal collection of figs together. then try to put some money away for something more important.... you'll appreciate your collection when its a smaller more personal group of your favorites justthe same. best of luck to you whichever way it goes man

Been there. I actually did quit recently due to music, but you don't have to sell them. Believe me, I had over 300 Jakks figures and ended up selling them off just to wish I still had them when I started collecting Mattels. Do this. Take them down and store them where you can't see them for a week or so. If you don't miss having them up, start selling off a little at a time. If you still aren't missing them, keep going. It just sounds really like you're in a collecting slump, and if a girl really likes you, she'll like you for you, not what you collect. Remember, what we do is a hobby, and if they don't like it, they really don't like you. this

I quit collecting a few months ago. The bad distribution got to the point where I just couldn't find anything new. It stopped being fun for me and was more frustrating and disappointing than anything else. I sold almost all my figures on Ebay and I don't regret it one bit. It feels a lot nicer now not going store to store all the time only to be let down.

I was really close to staring to collect again with Mattel legends (haven't since Jakks BCA figs) but decided that it was just a waste of money to me. I have way to many other expenses in my life right now. Glad I did because Mattel royally screwed legends up

Still wont command what they would have 10 years or so ago. Hit me up after their careers. They'll be coasters on your coffee table. Not because they're not hall of famers. My uncle had a card and comic shop for 16 years. My dad has mickey mantles and hank Aaron cards, mint that are worth a few $100 now. They were triple that when I was a kid.
