Anyone here ever had a bad driving experience? Like a crash or close call?
I only ask because I just had my first one a couple of hours ago. I passed in June and I was dropping my girlfriend home after she spent New Year's Day at my house. It was around 5PM so it was basically pitch black. I just came round a medium-ish corner when a deer came out of nowhere and I hit it. My numberplate fell off, as did the vents at the front of the car (a 2007 Renault Clio). A couple of bits of plastic were hanging off the front and my bonnet is dented slightly so I don't think I can open it at the moment. A bloke stopped behind me and helped me move the deer out of the road - it was only a baby and it was still breathing. There was a bit of blood, not too much, but its eyes were bloodshot as it looked at me. I then called my Dad and whilst I was on the phone to him the deer unfortunately died on the side of the road. I finally got back in the car (now displaying my numberplate on my dashboard which is still technicall legal) and dropped my girlfriend home before making the return journey. My Dad knows a mechanic and so hopefully the car should be fixed soon, but I'm hoping by Sunday, as that was when I was supposed to drive back to University for my next semester. Overall though I'm just glad the deer was small - there was a moment where I thought it was going to go into the windshield and crush my girlfriend and I.
So yeah, any experiences that anyone wants to share?

About 8 or 9 years ago I was heading home from work after working a night shift at the casino in Sacramento. A semi truck had its trailer detach about 2 lanes over to the right of me and about 5 or 6 car lengths in front of me. I got over to the next lane to the left and hit the gas. Just as I was passing the semi, the trailer swung around into the lane i was previously in and caused a pretty big pile up involving maybe 15 cars behind me...I watched the whole thing in my rearview mirror. I read the newspaper the next day and it had said that there were 2 fatalities involving that crash. It was a very scary moment and I will never forget the sight that I saw in my mirror.
My mom and step-dad are both volunteer fire fighters/ EMT's up in Humboldt county here in Cali. When I was a small child they would take me out on calls with them (Due to them needeing to leave for the call ASAP). I saw a lot of the after effects of vehicle accidents. They both tried to sheild me from seeing grusome things at the scene of the accidents but every once in a while I saw some crazy stuff. I learned real early about the importance of a seat belt and how it could save your life.

When I worked for a removal service (house clean outs, attics, basements, etc), I had the brakes go out as I was going downhill in a residential area. To make matters worse, the horn didn't work as well. I managed to make a left onto a side street that had an incline. I made it halfway up & cut the wheel sharply to the right. I ended up coasting backwards into a lady's front lawn. I nearly messed myself & was shaking for about 30 minutes. I called my boss & told him what happened. He met me 45 minutes later & we retraced my route- the brake line was corroded & left a line of brake fluid from where it happened to where it ended. It was only a distance of about 75 yards, but it scared the daylights out of me.
And I always have a fear of animals darting in front of my Jeep. I've hit a few in my time, but there was no avoiding them.
Glad you're okay. I hope the damage isn't too expensive.

Man, I couldn't have handled seeing that deer, especially a baby. I get uncomfortable when hunters post their kills on Facebook. It kills me.
I've had a couple of close calls, nothing too drastic, as well as a couple of terrible trips.
The closest call I had was just a few weeks ago. I pulled out of work and into the gas station across the street, filled up, and pulled out of the back into a four way intersection with lights. My light turned green, and I started to roll out, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a jacked up truck coming unnecessarily fast down the straightaway lane to my left. I eased off the gas a little bit just incase he flew through, so that he'd hit my front end instead of t-boning me on the driver's side directly. He slammed on his breaks at the last second and stopped about six feet from my car. I have no idea what he was thinking. His light was clearly red.
The only other terrible experience I've had was driving home in a raging blizzard about a year and a half ago early on a Friday morning.
When I was in college, I used to drive home on Friday after my classes to work Friday afternoon and Saturday. It's about a 45 minute ride. We had a massive nor'easter coming in Friday, but I also had a test I couldn't skip that morning. I was DJing for my old high school on Friday night, and had committed to work on Saturday, so I had to get home.
I waited around hoping school would cancel the night before, but they didn't. So, I got up at around 5am, saw the cancellation notice, and left for home just as the snow started coming down. I got home at 7:45. Again, it's normally a 45 minute drive.
The speed limit on the highway had been reduced to 35, but I was barely pushing 25 without starting to slide. I nearly ended up in the ditch a few times after tractor trailers were flying by still doing at least 50 and causing me to start a tailspin.

I was in the car with my Dad when a deer ran in front of it and got run over. Thankfully our 1991 Subaru Loyale wagon had a huge bumper on the front that deflected the deer from going up over the hood. The only damage we had was a parking light torn off and a dent in the hood.

a couple of fender benders, both times I was hit in the same spot so it wasn't really a big deal damage wise.
crap happens, you know? I really beat myself up over both of my accidents because everybody around me was making me feel like a complete moron. It really made me have a phobia of driving for quite some time. Now I just use my car for school and work because I'm not about to get into another accident driving people around for things that aren't important.

I was in a bad car accident in Feb. 2007. I was driving to school & had to take the interstate to get there. Someone ahead of me cut off another car when they moved into my lane & everyone had to hit their breaks. I was going to bail into the emergency lane (which was just to the left of me) but the car behind me did that. Had I done it, I probably would of been spun around & God only knows what else.
I ended up running into the back of the car behind me. To my surprise, the car I hit only had a minor scratch on the back bumper. My car, on the other hand, was all but totaled. I could not see out of my windshield anywhere, because the front of my car was smashed up so badly. Some how, I walked away without a scratch on me.
I know we have a lot of kids & teens on here. If there is one thing I can pass on to you, is that you are not bulletproof. It was a life-changing experience for me. I know you have to learn it & experience it for yourselves, but as someone who was once your age, I was/still am extremely lucky to be alive.

Every time I drive is a bad driving experience. I hate driving because other people drive like douche bags. People speed, don't use their signals, run red lights, and most people have absolutely NO IDEA the rules of "right of way" at intersections and stop signs.
Bottom line, I wish my car had missiles.

I second this.

I backed into my brother's car. My mom did that to my car, sad part was the whole family saw it. Yeah i actually got in an accident a few weeks ago. I was driving down a street behind one of those big garbage trucks that they use for dumpsters. For whatever reason it slammed on the brakes and i couldn't stop fast enough and rear ended it. Had i been in a car i think i might of died.

I got hit by a drunk driver in March of 2011. I was stopped at a red light and they came flying over the hill and slammed into me, which slammed me into another car and a wall. Then the dumb asses decided to run off on foot because their car was ed. Luckily they were caught in a nearby neighborhood and jailed.

In 2007 my girlfriend and I were struck on the side on the highway and we flipped and went about 100 or so feet while on our roof.

Back when I was in 6th grade I was in a moderately bad four car accident. I dont think any serious injuries were sustained but for some reason, beforehand, I pulled the seatbelt all the way out, so it literally locked me in, so when the crash happened it was really tight on me. The end result of that was brusing across my hips and diagonal of my stomach (where the seatbelt was,) and I couldnt walk for about two days because of it.
On roughly the 18th of December last month, my Mom and I were coming home from a family dinner, and its about 10:30pm and were in a single lane. The car in front of us was screwing around with us, speeding up, slowing down to a creep, etc. As soon as the lane split, I tried to pass him, as I didnt trust him (he could have been drunk). Turns out it was a right turning lane into a Costco and before I could get out of the way My mom told me to look out, and I ran over a median with the front passenger tire, and it had just started snowing so the road was slick, we ended up spinning about two times before running up onto a curb. I remember staying calm and trying to turn into the spin, then just anger the moment we stopped, because I realized what I did to my car. The front axel had to have broken, tires blew out. The car that screwed with us of course didnt stop, never even saw it after my car stopped spinning. Luckily two oncoming cars stopped to check on us (we were both fine, my mom was just really shaken). The cop who ended up coming pointed out what we missed - three trees and a lightpole during the turn by only feet. I had only liability so it wasnt even worth trying to repair. I drove a 96 Neon and I eventually looked up the safety specs on it? Rated poor all around, especially in side-impact. Had we hit that lightpole things would have been wayy different.
