How is the Miz still employed?

Well, I'd say he's still employed because the WWE is keeping a contract with him. I mean, that's why most of the superstars and staff are still employed.

This is pretty true, sadly. The Miz had an awesome 2008, being next to a charisma vacuum like Morrison really made him shine. 2009 was fantastic for him too, going into singles and having a feud with Cena, then a redesign of his look and the US title. 2010 was a hell of a year, holding tons of belts at the same time, Money in the Bank, and the big title win. But he really faded into the background in the WrestleMania 27 build-up... Which was kind of inevitable, but sad. And since he lost the title, nothing he has done has really resonated. It's a shame, for a couple of years there he looked like he was destined to be an all-time great, and a huge part of the company for years to come.

As WWE has become more entrenched in their efforts to gain even more mainstream attention, the hunt for guys in their locker room they can send to shows like "jimmy kimmel" or to play in celebrity softball games with nelly and the kardashian of the week has intensified. I think Vince McMahon sees the Miz as a guy who came from the world that the WWE is trying to win back, and a guy who carries some credibility in that world. The Miz has hosted those dreadful MTV Challenge post game talk shows on a couple of occasions, and has made the WWE appear to be full of functioning, intelligent people every time. The quality of his in ring work has nothing to do with his level of success in WWE, and despite the wishes of the IWC and CM Punk, there will always be guys who rise to a level on the card thats irreflective of their ability. The Miz moves merch, his segments usually do decent numbers, and he looks good in a suit and on television (his appearance on Conan was particularly fun), and so I think Vince and co. will always view him as viable box office...
