Travis Pastrana will not return to NASCAR next year. It's sad, if only getting rid of Danica were this easy. As bad as Danica is, Pastrami is a lot worse. He consistently looked like he was in the middle of NASCAR '98 getting shot with paintballs. He should've spent more time in ARCA or K&N getting acclimated to stock cars before thinking "Im ready for Nationwide!"

Man, the hours spent on that game with the paintballs....

So in a series of historic type articles, someone went back and figured all the championship from like 1975 and on, with Chase type standings. Interesting to say the least.
1975 Actual champion: Richard Petty [6] "Chase" champion: Richard Petty [6]
1976 Actual champion: Cale Yarborough [1] "Chase" champion: Cale Yarborough [1]
1977 Actual champion: Cale Yarborough [2] "Chase" champion: Cale Yarborough [2]
1978 Actual champion: Cale Yarborough [3] "Chase" champion: Cale Yarborough [3]
1979 Actual champion: Richard Petty [7] "Chase" champion: Richard Petty [7]
Here's where things get interesting. The last 5 all stayed the same. But these these didn't.
1980 Actual champion: Dale Earnhardt [1] "Chase" champion: Cale Yarborough [4]
1981 Actual champion: Darrell Waltrip [1] "Chase" champion: Darrell Waltrip [1]
1982 Actual champion: Darrell Waltrip [2] "Chase" champion: Darrell Waltrip [2]
1983 Actual champion: Bobby Allison [1] "Chase" champion: Darrell Waltrip [3]
1984 Actual champion: Terry Labonte [1] "Chase" champion: Harry Gant [1]
1985 Actual champion: Darrell Waltrip [3] "Chase" champion: Darrell Waltrip [4]
1986 Actual champion: Dale Earnhardt [2] "Chase" champion: Dale Earnhardt [1]
1987 Actual champion: Dale Earnhardt [3] "Chase" champion: Dale Earnhardt [2]
1988 Actual champion: Bill Elliott [1] "Chase" champion: Bill Elliott [1]
1989 Actual champion: Rusty Wallace [1] "Chase" champion: Rusty Wallace [1]
1990 Actual champion: Dale Earnhardt [4] "Chase" champion: Dale Earnhardt [3]
1991 Actual champion: Dale Earnhardt [5] "Chase" champion: Harry Gant [2]
1992 Actual champion: Alan Kulwicki [1] "Chase" champion: Kyle Petty [1]
1993 Actual champion: Dale Earnhardt [6] "Chase" champion: Rusty Wallace [2]
1994 Actual champion: Dale Earnhardt [7] "Chase" champion: Dale Earnhardt [4]
1995 Actual champion: Jeff Gordon [1] "Chase" champion: Dale Earnhardt [5]
1996 Actual champion: Terry Labonte [2] "Chase" champion: Jeff Gordon [1]
1997 Actual champion: Jeff Gordon [2] "Chase" champion: Dale Jarrett [1]
1998 Actual champion: Jeff Gordon [3] "Chase" champion: Jeff Gordon [2]
1999 Actual champion: Dale Jarrett [1] "Chase" champion: Bobby Labonte [1]
2000 Actual champion: Bobby Labonte [1] "Chase" champion: Bobby Labonte [2]
2001 Actual champion: Jeff Gordon [4] "Chase" champion: Sterling Marlin [1]
2002 Actual champion: Tony Stewart [1] "Chase" champion: Kurt Busch [1]
2003 Actual champion: Matt Kenseth [1] "Chase" champion: Jimmie Johnson [1]
And now with the real 2004-2012 winners and titles
2004: Kurt Busch [2] 2005: Tony Stewart [1] 2006-2010: Jimmie Johnson [2, 3, 4, 5, 6] 2011: Tony Stewart [2] 2012: Brad Keselowski [1]
...and it's all but a certainty.
2013: Jimmie Johnson [7]
Johnson would tie Richard's 7 titles if the Chase existed back in the 70s. I don't even wanna consider the idea. He's 4 days off from #6 though.

Kyle Petty wishes the Chase was around in 1992 so he could tell people to kiss his ass because he's a champion and you're not.

I wouldn't have a problem with Jimmie winning all these championships if they weren't all won so close together. That's the problem with the Chase, it rewards consistency throughout 10 races and not 36 and that's where Jimmie is the best. I suppose it's like that for all sports though and their playoff systems.

And to further this a bit, if there were no Chase, here's how the last 9 championships would have played out.
2004: Jeff Gordon [5] 2005: Tony Stewart [2] 2006: Jimmie Johnson 2007: Jeff Gordon [6] 2008: Carl Edwards 2009: Jimmie Johnson [2] 2010: Kevin Harvick 2011: Carl Edwards [2] 2012: Brad Keselowski
So 2-time instead of 5-time. Jeff would be a 6-time champion, and Edwards would have 2 for himself. Damn Chase ruined everything! Lol.
Maybe some NNS changes are coming, because when Austin Dillon wins the championship this weekend, he will be a winless champion. Maybe that'll open NASCAR's eyes when the series championship is won with zero wins. For the record, I WANT Austin to win it. I am in no way complaining about it.

I'd just give the Nationwide Series a "Chase" format in the final races like the Sprint Cup Series. Why not?

So if my math is right:
Harvick can win the title if he wins and leads the most laps, and Johnson finishes 32nd or worse. 33rd if Harvick does not lead the most laps.
I don't think the stars align on that one. Johnson has to finish 23rd or better, 24th or better with a lap led, 25th or better with most laps led. And that's regardless of what Harvick or Kenseth do.

In a perfect world Kenseth would get loose and take out JJ and Harvick would have the upset victory winning the race and the Title before pulling a Shane Douglas, throwing down an RCR Flag and raising a SHR flag.

In my fantasy world Scott Wimmer has 6 titles and Dave Marcis is Richard Petty. In a way I'm glad I didn't watch, but I am sad I missed Martin, Schrader and Montoyas last race.

Jimmie Johnson deserved the championship, so props to him. Can't wait for the crapstorm that'll come with seven and eight..

Dale Jr. chokes again. So sick of this! No. Kenseth's f*cking ass almost put Jr. in the wall in those closing laps after Jr. had the faster car and a run inside. Kenseth wasn't winning the title, and couldn't pass Hamlin, so he held Jr. behind and made sure Jr. Nation couldn't celebrate a win tonight. Hmmm, a teammate helping a teammate. Who does that NOT sound like? Oh yeah.....f*cking Jimmie Johnson.
