I've noticed before in the past that some of my Mattel WWE figures will have a little bit of a greasy or oily substance on them when I take them out of the package, but it's never been so much that it was worth mentioning.
But today I got Elite 19 Shawn Michaels and when I removed the shoulder entrance attire, there was so much grease/oil underneath it that it was literally DRIPPING down his torso.
Maybe the Mattel Design team could answer my question, because I'm just wondering A) What is this greasy/oily substance? And B) whatever it is, is it toxic and does it pose a health risk?
Has anybody else noticed this greasy/oily substance?

I've noticed it before as well, especially around the knee joints under the kneepads. I think it is a lubricant to help with assembly.

It seems to be an E19 HBK thing. I've got three of them and they are all the same.

Isn't it just the plastic sweating in the box?

ive had some wet substance on some figures out of package. you're e19 hbk thing is disgusting. hopefully Mattel will pop in and say it just like a water based non toxic lube
if not i'd prioritize the question in a Q&A because the answer seems like it would be pretty important

If you open the figure and rub the glossy hand with a paper towel it will come off. It is a thin residue of the oil they use to coat the insides of the molds to make sure the pieces pop off properly when ejected from the machine. This usually shows up on the first few pieces made in the new mold. So you did not in fact get a botch, you actually got one of the first basic Brocks we have made. unless the fig is CM Punk. In that case the grease is accurate

Its a mineral oil lubricant used to keep joints loose for play/posing. Non toxic!

MDT posted an answer recently. It's a mold release. They said you might see some on parts that were made earlier in the production process. You might not always see it but it's a reason why most model makers and customizers wash their plastics before painting.

So does this mean that my HBK's shoulder piece accessory was probably one of the first made then and that is the reason why there was so much oil/grease underneath it?

If it was toxic it wouldn't be used on the figures in the first place.

I found MDT's answer:

I like the oil. Also nothing beats the smell of a fresh figure. And yes I realize my entire reply makes me sound mildly insane.

You do realize this was posted in the thread already? Damn, missed that. I hate when posters do that, now I'm guilty.

The guy must have took the figure with him on a restroom break and greased it up for you.
