Interesting to know, I always wondered, and kind of assumed it was oiled not to release from the mold, but to make the assembly easier i.e. grease the parts before shoving them together (tee-hee.) I also assume that is why there are vents on the packaging of the figures, and any figure that Mattel makes.

on e19 hbk i always assumed it was just the plastic sweating from sitting around in the package.

I like the oil. Also nothing beats the smell of a fresh figure. And yes I realize my entire reply makes me sound mildly insane. I can totally understand :-) I used to love the smell of them too when I opened them (before I went MOC)
