I figured we could make a thread for this event, as it's a rather big deal in the video game industry. There's rumors coming out that it will be released in November and that there will be two SKUs, one priced at $429 and the other at $529. We've all seen the prototype controller that's making the rounds as well.
Going into tomorrow's event, what are you looking forward to?
Do you expect any sort of next-gen game footage?
Any specific game announcements?
Price point?
Release date?
Discuss.

I'm really looking forward to it, I think the event is at 10PM here. I'll watch it live on IGN. I'm a sucker for PS3 so I'd probably end up getting the bigger SKU, but I'm hoping it won't be more than £400.

Not expecting a huge game reveal today, but I do hope to see The Last Guardian, if that has indeed moved to PS4, and maybe a teaser from Uncharted 4? Otherwise, I'm excited to see what the PS4 is able to do.
It's crazy to think about, but these are the machines that we'll be playing probably until 2020 or so...yikes.

Who announces a console in a 3-4 hour press conference and doesn't even show a single picture of said console?
I'm likely going to buy one regardless, but still....
I guess they have to save something for E3.
Oh and to the poster above me, they announced "Holiday 2013" at the end of the event in a quick graphic.

That was lame. It better be disc based or else I am staying far far away from it. Tonight proved streaming will not work.

I thought Sony absolutely killed it tonight. A handful of game announcements, we saw footage, the new controller, a release date, the Blizzard and Bungie deals announced, it was a large amount of information. Excited isn't the word. The options for sharing with friends, man, wow.

Looked amazing; wish we'd seen the actual console though. Day 1 purchase here I come.

I'd be shocked if they got rid of disc technology now. That's something I expect out of the next-next gen, not this gen. It's best left as an option as it is on 360/PS3/WiiU and the handhelds.
I really like how they've embraced user video streaming, though. That's something you might not have expected a big corporation to like since they can't make money off it. All this modern stuff, like Let's Plays and reviews and video streams are apart of modern gaming culture. They're smart to be okay with it.

Very impressed with Sony today. It seems like they have finally caught up and are competitive to PC quality standards. Everything Nintendo and the Wii U failed to do, Sony and the PS4 seems to have to capitalized on. Good PC hardware and specs that make it easy for developers to port over, an actual harddrive for digital downloads, 8 GB of RAM, actual third party support, etc. This is a real next gen console.

PS4 doesn't play PS3 games... so I'm not sure yet.

I'm intrigued, but there's no way this thing starts out a cent below $499. The PS3 is STILL going for $300.

I'll definitely be getting this at some point because I'm a loyal Playstation "gamer". I use that word loosely. I just don't think I'll be getting it right away. There are still a lot of games that are coming out for PS3 that I want and a poster above said that the PS4 wont play PS3 games. That's really what made my decision. As far as all of the tech improvement, I imagine it's very good for the console, however I'm not a big enough gamer to really know what it all means.
Even so, I'll probably end up buying this bad boy about a year or so after it's initial release.

Sony invested a lot of money in to blu ray, they would be stupid not to use it. Also Dual Layer BDs contain up to 50gigs of data. If you honestly think everyone can just stream 50gigs of data seamlessly AND play online you are nuts. Simply, their isn't enough bandwidth to go around. And if its download titles well you will need terabytes on top of terabytes for that to work. SO it will most likely support blu ray and if for some god awful reason it does not I can almost guarantee xbox will.

We're not at a place yet, globally, where we can warrant completely ditching disk media in gaming and expect to achieve progressive results. And honestly, I think we're still a ways out. I skimmed through some of the stuff and was intrigued, but not overly excited yet. I use my PS3 primarily as my Blu-Ray player, gaming machine second, so I'm not a likely day 1 target for this anyway, like I will be for the new X-Box. Depending on what else Sony brings to table, though, I will almost undoubtedly get one of these eventually, but, like the PS3, I'll wait for the price drop. Graphics looked impressive, but other than that, as someone who isn't all that much of an online gamer, the new features are things I'll likely think are cool and will try out once or twice, but then never use again, which is exactly what I expected out of this generation, and that's perfectly okay. I'll have to evolve with it and continue to get out of these consoles what I want to.

I guess reports are it will be disk based. I hope its all true. Blu Ray is the best HD medium right now. Streaming just is not ready, not for like another 20 years at least.
