Commentary in WWE has sucked for many years.

There is this new commentator I don't know his name but he has been commentating NXT and the WWE pre-shows and he is actually really good. You're thinking of Tony Dawson. Cole and Lawler's laughing at things that aren't even funny annoys the shid out of me. I just try to tune them out most of the time because I don't care much for either one. King isn't good at it anymore, and him shouting "Come at me bro!" a few weeks ago was embarrassing. Cole isn't much better. The only time I actually listen to commentary is on Smackdown and PPV's because JBL usually makes me laugh quite a bit.

I forgot about the laughing thing. It's only pretty much for The Rock 2 weeks ago was vomitous....they laughed at literally EVERY line the Rock spit, and it was that forced over the top "oh my god he's so funny! see! he's funny! we're laughing! laugh with the WWE Universe! Be a part of the show!"

I'm a huge fan of Cole. I like the way he sells things. The only time he was horrible to me was when he turned heel. Commentary really went down after that.
King doesn't add or take away anything from the product, but I feel like he needs to be commentating for whatever reason.

If Lawler didn't have Vince in his ear feeding him everything he says word for word, I think he'd be better. Since that's not the case, yeah, it seems like The King's been mailing it in the last few years.

Wow you guys take stuff super serious. Lol Neither of them bother me. Cole isn't the best and Lawler has definitely been better but I'll live. you know who took things serious? jim ross. jesse ventura. gorilla monsoon. bobby heenan. and we got excellent entertainment because of it.

I said it when it happened, when Jerry had the near death experience, commentary quality went up with out him. By no means was I happy that he had that happen. But it just proves that over the years he has lost it. Time for J.R and JBL to take over, a good play by play that knows the business and JBL who's the best heel commentator available. Absolutely. I absolutely dreaded King's return. Not that I didn't wish him the absolute best in his recovery, I was genuinely happy for him, but the fact is, he's even admitted he doesn't like his job anymore. The heart attack should have been his wake up call to ride off into the sunset. Cole can be tolerable at times, but with King, he's terrible. He's got a good dynamic with JBL, which tends to make him a bit better. Lawler, on the other hand, is absolutely abysmal no matter who he's with, even JR. People can say that we overreact to commentary all they want, but commentary is one of the most crucial and important pieces of the puzzle to properly tell a story. More often than not, I feel like Cole and King are genuinely distracting and doing an honest disservice to the product and their coworkers. I can't even count the number of times in the past year they've devalued a moment, situation, or even a wrestler just for the sake of lame attempts at jokes or ridiculous cynicism. Well said, I agree wholeheartedly. On another note, I much rather prefer hearing Japanese commentators, even though I can't speak much Japanese.

I don't mind them, although at times they can be annoying! If anything they should just make raw a permanent three man team, JBL is just absolute gold!

I agree this has been going nearly 5 years. SmackDown has great Commentary set. Lawler and Cole's commentary doesn't go well. Cole is okay , but JBL is amazing at commentary. But Lawler will not be finished with WWE. Till hes dead as I see it. I like Lawler but he needs somebody knew. WWE can try him and JBL. We need something new this has been going on since June 08. Half of decade

King is horrible and I wish he never returned after his heart attack (I know, harsh, but still true). Cole I can deal with, he has good repartee with JBL a lot of the time. But King seems to have no idea what he is doing anymore.

Am i the only one who's love to see this combination on RAW or SD? Have Regal lean more towards play-by-play and have JBL lean more towards colour commentary (granted i'd much rather see Regal wrestling) now THAT i could go for.

They both suck and its unbearable at times. You can tell their hearts are not in it anymore. JBL makes them look even worse.

JR is king of modern commentary, end of. JR heyman and JR lawler are great and cant get much better as the conflict is terrific entertainment. . . . . . . and you cant get enough of "PUPPIEEEEEESSS" ;D

between stages and commentary every one on here bitches about some petty things. criticizing the commentary is hardly petty...it DOES suck and it DOES retract from the show's quality.

WWE blew it with Josh Matthews, as Josh's commentary is nothing like it was when he first started on velocity. WWE cannot seem to please their former talents enough to stay behind the booth (mick foley, jbl, booker) total shame. I'd love to hear guys lowly Coulter and Heyman on commentary even if its only for their guys matches.
Why oh why is Matt Striker hated so much by wwe when he is so well versed with relaying the facts and a story?! Why is Regal not thrown in their with his knowledge of holds, suplexes, throws and submissions that accompany a man with great knowledge of the business?
Cole and Lawler suck but WWE doesn't consider that facet a priority. They get to watch the tapes with commentary removed!

The sole reason Commentary sucks anymore is because of Michael Cole. Trust me Lawler would be better if it weren't for him needing to turn his whole character into PG. I was watching come good old stuff the other day and King kept reffering to Kane "The Big Red intellectually- disabled person" I mean he really was gold at one point. But this whole PG stuff has killed him, along with the fact that his partener is a complete goof who honestly hasn't improved since day one. In fact go watch some old Smackdowns from 00 01. He would actually call moves. I can truely say I prefer that Cole to todays.
What boggles my mind even more is that they have a whole list of top teir commentators just sitting around doing nothing or calling low name shows. Let's think about this, J.R is the best ever and yet he's sitting at home just getting older. JBL is on smackdown? Why? He's the best active announcer in the biz today. They have Joey Styles (one of my personal favorites) sitting on his ass at home working on the WWE website. What a freakin waste. HrHeyman is another one who I feel was one of the best at commentary. In 01 his and JRs work is the best ever imo.
All of you who said a commentary team is VITAL to the story telling aspect of the show is right on the money. And the factf that we have two watered down, lame announcers on the biggest show WWE has ever had is mind boggiling. Just insane. Hell id rather see Brad Maddox behind the booth.
