i feel if gay people want to get married and be miserable they have the right to do so. Just like straight people. (No offense intended to married folks, just how i feel)

I used to be one of those people against Gay marriage. I never really knew why I was, just that my family was and that was determining my belief on the idea.
I changed my opinion once I started to talk to more and more people, basically engaging on the issue. I am now for it.
it looks like this:
no > didn't care > for

Of course when it does (eventually) happen, we'll all be patting ourselves on the back like crazy when in reality it's pathetic that we took so long.

We allow a woman and man who have known each other for 10 minutes to get married, we allow a man or woman who have been married and divorced 7 times to get remarried, but when it comes to a gay couple who have been together 20 years getting married, it's a problem?!
I would have legalized it years ago.

I think Obama is a little weird about the gay marriage issue because black people are more anti-gay than anybody, it's tied it with folks who are very religious. So I've never really felt like "marriage equality" or whatever you want to call it is big on his agenda list.
I think you should just leave people alone and let them be who they are.

Regardless of who legalizes it it can't come soon enough. Its just ridiculous that its banned in the first place.

Well, you can't leave people completely alone, there are way too many crappy people out there. I honestly don't even know what my political beliefs are anymore - it seems like greed ruins everything anyway. But when it comes to homosexuality, I think gay marriage being accepted will help cut down the amount of risky behind closed doors gay sex which leads to trouble and disease. You certainly can't hate the gay out of people. And hate sucks anyway.

First off, the way aids, and other sexual diseases are spread is done by all, not just homosexuals. You are just be ignorant and assuming it's homosexuals when it's not. Look at Africa, men sleep with countless women, they get pregnant, spread disease, it passes to their kids, and the cycle continues. In america, you got sexually transmitted diseases being spread around by teenagers. Why? Because they don't know how to use protection and keep it in their pants. Men, woman who bar hop, use drugs that have dirty needles, countless sex partners, thats HOW diseases spread amungst the population. To make a long story short. Homosexuals are not the problem, its the ENTIRE POPULATION. If you can't use a condom, OR if you feel the need to sleep with a ton of different people, then thats your issue. A straight man, or straight women could spread a sexual disease as much as a gay male or gay female. Exactly, as being gay is as normal as you eating during the day. My sister in law told me I could be fixed by church and therapy. I told her I'm fine the way I am. Why? Because my family loves me, for me, and they love my significant other whome I've been with as of 3 years in a few months. The only thing that can be truly fixed is peoples stupidity when they believe how religion is nothing more than a scare tatic to control people. And yes, I do believe in God, but not the hate preached by todays Churches.

Well a lot of that (protection, contraception, etc.) you can probably blame on the nit wits who push/practice abstinence only education. They're not educated on how to practice safe sex when the time comes, and eventually when the hormones and natural urges kick in they wind up with a teen pregnancy and/or STD.

So you think gay people hiding in the closest and society looking down upon homosexuality doesn't lead to excessively risky behavior by people trying to keep their sexuality hidden? I was trying to be for acceptance for everybody - you come across as pretty defensive. A straight man, or straight women could spread a sexual disease as much as a gay male or gay female. Yeah, they could, but do they?

This needs to happen. No one should have the right to dictate who can marry who.

To me, this has always been the most disgusting and demoralizing thing that some churches and religious folk do in response to homosexuality. Offering therapy or teachings to change you completely as a person because they aren't comfortable with your lifestyle or don't believe in it. It's mind blowing.

I personally don't think gay marriage should be a government issue. I think this upcoming November every state that allows/doesn't allow gay marriage should put up a ballot to allow the people to vote on gay marriage, just to end this issue. But this will probably never happen.

But this will probably never happen. If you left it to people to vote on, gays would never get the right to marry. In fact, if it was only on voting, women and blacks would probably still not have the right to vote. Action rarely happens in the hands of the voters. It happens when legislators champion a minority cause.
