My last thread is 2 pages back, so I felt it was best to just make a new one. If I'm in the wrong, just say something.
So I'm finally starting on my first custom. I got the paint and everything and the custom as well. Now all I need is some tips on painting.
I bought a boxset of Testors Paint from Walmart, as well as a few detail brushes. Right now I'm working on the pants of a DA Shawn Micheals. However, when I paint it on, it seems to spread to other parts and not dry where it is painted. Any ideas on how to fix this?
My guess is maybe I shouldn't have thinned it out, since apparently Testors is already thinned. But what do I know?
Also, any advice as far as number of coats, a mult color design in one area, and time to dry?
Thanks, sean

It depends on how much you thinned it out. I've never used Testors but what I always do is just tip my brush in the water then the paint. Maybe someone with more knowledge of Testors can help you with the other questions. Sorry

I don't thin my paint (but I probably should). If you get like bristle marks showing or something its probably best to add just a little.
I usually do about 3 coats of paint, but it depends what it is I am painting. I also only use one brush, which is fairly small, but not tiny. This is for covering large areas of paint. Otherwise I just use a toothpick for things like designs and other small details.
My paint usually takes about 3 minutes to dry, but it depends what paint you're using. Acrylic usually doesn't take long.

I would not use testors. I stay away from enamel paint. The only good testors color I like is the black. It goes on in one coat and is very smooth. I would use acrylic paint for your custom. it will take 2-3 coats depending on the colour you are wanting to paint with. let the acrylic paint dry for about 30 minutes between coats, it depends on how thin you paint it on. The thicker you paint the longer it takes to dry.

Man, this is alot harder then I thought it would be. I suppose starting out on a DA figure wasn't the best idea. Any tips for wrist bands/straight lines as far as paint them or marking them goes?
pants are almost done

For straight lines and such, go slow and be patient. With pants designs, if you end up getting a little sloppy, you can go in with the black and clean up the excess, if you get what I a saying. With wrist tape, you just have to go slow. I dont know if this works with testors, but when I am trying to do a straight line right onto the plastic, I'll paint it and then scratch off the paint that is not straight after it dries, but I dont know that Testors will let you do that because its a bit higher quality. You could put tape on the figure and use that as a guide for the lines, but sometimes paint gets under the tape. If it doesnt, that works well.

testors paint is already thinned so you should not have thinned it out. i do not know if there is a way to reverse this.

You can use tape to mark off areas for straight lines and whatnot.
