So I recently stumbled accross Dead Island GOTY edition in game, which was on sale for £10 so I thought I'd give it a dabble as I just fancied a new game on the cheap and it looked alright. I wasn't expecting much from the game other than maybe a couple of weeks fun.
After not expecting much from the game, I was pleasantly suprised at how good it actually was. Graphically it is pretty decent and the gameplay is perfect in my opinion - a well-balanced difficulty setting which is challenging but not too difficult. And I was also impressed with the depth of it - the game world is huge and is extremely detailed. The only thing lacking, for me, was the story mode which failed to catch my interest for the most part. Luckily the enjoyment of the game itself made up for this.
I haven't tried any of the online modes yet as I've been attempting to unlock the majority of the tophies (a platinum looks difficult), but I'll give them a go soon. If anyone else plays it on PS3 then add me on there and give me a shout. My PSN is Waters17.
So who else has played the game? What's your thoughts on it? I'm suprised it's not more popular than it is (I'd not really heard about it untill I saw it in the shop). I'm also looking forward to the sequel Riptide.

Liked it a lot, really good for the first attempt at a game like this. Riptide isn't exactly a sequel its like a ".5" But I'm sure after Riptide or Saints Row 4 we'll hear about a true sequel.

Loved it. Bought it release day and played the hell out of it. Played through it alone and with friends, and I have to say, it was a lot more fun with friends, but I enjoyed it more solo if that makes sense.
With friends we just had a laugh and messed around, so I didn't really pay attention to the story, but playing solo I was paying complete attention to the story.
The ending could have been better imo, but still an amazing game. Already pre-ordered my copy of Riptide.

I liked it.
The gameplay was well done even if the story was meh. There also seemed to be a lot of fetch quests and the game got really difficult when you got to the city.
It was fun though. I pre-ordered Riptide from GameStop.

I enjoyed the sh*t out of Dead Island.
I'll be playing Riptide, too, big time.

I'm still playing it, it's excellent in co-op with my brother.
Picked up 2 copies for $35 each.

I thought the first one was alright. Boring story and characters. After a while I just didn't care anymore. Good thing I had a co-op partner or I don't think I would have ever finished it.

I played it for a bit, but stopped a little bit after I got into the city. That seemed to be where the difficulty picked up and ti got frustrating to play it by myself. I liked it, but without another person to play along with, I don't think I'll finish it. I liked, "Who do you Voodoo, bitch?" enough to put it on my running playing list.

Characters were paper thin. When I finished the game, I thought, "Wait, who was that boss? Why did I kill him? ....What is going on?" But the gameplay itself was so much fun, I didn't care.

See I didn't find the gameplay to be anything special.

I've got it too, not completed it yet (apart from Ryder White's campaign) but I'm a bit in it. Haven't played it for awhile though, one of those games I will play on a quiet weekend.

I bought the game around the time of its release, but never really gave it a good, honest try. I think I played up until I got the armored truck, then quietly moved on to other titles.
Thankfully, I FINALLY sat down to really play it a few weeks ago. I'm still messing with it (I just started the laboratory missions), and having a ton of fun. I think I'm level 39-40. The story/characters are indeed incredibly underwhelming, but I've still loved my time with the game.
Also, I'm surprised people had so much trouble with the city area. I initially kept getting overwhelmed and mauled to death too, but it quickly became clear the area simply required a different strategy than that of the resort section. You couldn't always rely on standing around to brawl and mindlessly button smash. I thought the section did a good job of creating a tense "hit and run" style of gameplay.
Once I sorted that out, I came to enjoy the city area quite a bit, and didn't have much trouble at all despite playing solo.

I enjoyed the sh*t out of Dead Island. I'll be playing Riptide, too, big time. As will I. I have it pre-ordered at Best Buy. They were offering a free steelbook case for it with reserve and I got the last one they had.

Good to see everyone else loved it. Definitely one of the most under-rated games out there.
I recently started going online and playing through the game again on co-op which is also very decent. Anyone else on PS3 and want to play some of the BloodBath Arena? There's a trophy for completing 30 waves with a co-op partner which I'm going for!

Love Dead Island! Have the G.O.T.Y Edition for PS3, pre-ordered Riptide Steelbook Edition, and just started reading the book. Now just need some Dead Island figures!

Man, there will be a film out next. By the way are you online on the PS3 mate? If so, you fancy playing some BloodBath arena co-op?
