Watching the press conference now, & they just announced it. He's going to maintain a role within the UFC, according to Dana.
The timing seems right. I don't think his heart has been completely in it for a few years.
Thoughts?

Can't say I'm shocked. He deserves tons of props for what he did to bring popularity to the UFC.

Dana also said that Forrest & Bonnar will be inducted in the UFC HOF in July at the expo.

Glad to see he retired before getting destroyed in the ring. Other then against Silva. Also glad they are going into the HOF they deserve it.

Its sad, as I love the guy, but I can't say I'm too shocked. Its probably for the better anyway as I can't see him doing well against the upper guys in the division like Glover, Jones, Machida or Alexander. To me, he never seemed quite the same after the Anderson Silva fight. I think that one really stuck in his head for a while.

It's about time honestly. Once he lost the title he stopped trying completely. Sure he still fought and never looked horrible but once he lost the title much like Rampage he stopped caring IMO. The injuries didn't help either but he really didn't try to evolve through the years.

Forrest had a good career. Losing the title the way he did against Rashad was brutal, then Anderson beat him that badly didn't help his cause. But the one that did it for me was the second Shogun fight. Shogun steamrolled him with ease and after that fight I couldn't help but think it was time. He stepped away at about as right of a time as there is to step away and didn't overstay his welcome unlike Diego or Koscheck or Leben. Those guys, as entertaining as they are to watch fight are guys who haven't evolved very much. I'm glad Dana is taking care of these guys as best he can after they retire. Something that boxing doesn't do for retired fighters.
