SPOILERS From what I'm gathering, John Hurt is the real ninth Doctor and the one behind all the deaths in the time war. Which means Smith is actually the 12th Doctor. The Doctor is ashamed of what he did and hides it.

As far as I know...
SPOILER Billie Piper & David Tennant are the only ones returning.
So yeah I'm with the theory that, the 8th Doctor (who was in the movie) regenerated into John Hurts Doctor who killed all of the Daleks/Time Lords. His regeneration was Eccleston making him the 10th Doctor and not Tennant. So obviously Matt Smith is the 12th Doctor, Tenant is the 11th.
There was also a hint toward the Valeyard being brought back. It was mentioned briefly in The Name of The Doctor.

Jesus the show is that old? Huh. It hasn't run consistently for 50 years. It started back in 63 and ran through the early 80's before it went off the air. They did some specials and a movie and then the tv series started up again in 2005.

There was also a hint toward the Valeyard being brought back. It was mentioned briefly in The Name of The Doctor. While technically accurate (mostly likely),I don't think the numbering will actually change as they made a point to say the Doctor name was more of a title that he chose, and that version was the only regeneration not deserve the mantle. So while he's the same person, he's not The Doctor. I'd love for it to set up the Valeyard returning, but will see. On another note, I wish John Hurt would actually have a run as the Doctor. But he's 73, so I don't see anything long running being a possibility. It would be fun to see another old doctor though. Or maybe they can film a time war mini series starring him. But they need to have Paul Gann come in to die at the beginning and Eccleston to become the doctor at the end.

I wouldn't call it a spoiler from the people announced to be back in the show. Yeah it's fun to keep it as a surprise, but BBC nor the producers are hiding the actors returns. There could still be a few surprises that they're hiding really well.

To me, the only way to really surprise me would be:
A. Return of the Master B. Cameo by Eccleston
As much as I love goofy 11 and the charm of 10, for some reason 9 has always been my favorite.

Well the BBC have officially confirmed that Eccleston has declined the offer to appear, but as the 'The Name Of The Doctor' clearly showed, archive footage can easily be used. John Simm has stated that he is up for playing The Master again. I'd love to see him back.

The Master coming back would be amazing. Easily one of the top Doctor Who villains.

I'd love a return from The Master; so long as Eric Roberts ISN'T involved in any way.
I think the rumors of hurt being the Valeyard are interesting; I can't imagine how Rose and 10 will be brought back; but I'm VERY excited to see Tennant and Smith together on screen; and I'm still hoping against hope for a SMALL SMALL TEENY TINY Eccleston cameo.

Considering there is a version of Tennant still alive who is with Rose in the alternate universe they may tie it together that way or it could be a deal where Smith/Oswin have to cross paths with them during an adventure we haven't seen. I want to stay with the theory that Hurt is the 9th Doctor however the fact that Tennant is coming back sort of makes me wonder if Hurt is the Valeyard.

If John Hurt is the 9th Doctor, there will be a huge backlash
Which is your favourite Doctor? The 11th Ah Matt Smith No, David Tennant is the 11th erm no... etc
Half the fans will accept the bump up in number, the other half won't

I think diehard fans will accept it, and really are there any other kind of fans when it comes to The Doctor?

The Valeyard is supposed to be between his final two incarnations though, which would mean though if Hurt becomes 9 and they all shift up a number; then the Valeyard will appear sooner than later anyway. But I don't think that's who Hurt is. Rose and 10 will likely return in similar fashion that they did The Three Doctors and the Five Doctors, basically by either breaking time laws or a villain (which would set up the Master nicely) brings them together. The latter steals a plot device from the Five Doctors but it could work well anyway. I also could see them using the Great Intelligence again in that way and he turns into the new incarnation of the Master. This next season will likely be Matt Smith's last, so it's about time unless they plan to exit him more creatively than using Tennant's out.

For the 50th a couple of fans are trying to put a TARDIS into space:

Even though this is fan-made, it's done so brilliantly, so fantastically, so much like an official trailer, that it's got me psyched for the 50th Anniversary. I can't wait!
