If anyone wants a link to the announcement, here it is: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-22741493I feel down now that Matt Smith is leaving. He was undoubtedly one of the best Doctors, and it's such a shame to see him go. Oh and hey look, he's trending on Twitter. Anyway, as I was saying. At least we still have the 50th Anniversary and 2013 Christmas special to go. I'll admit, I wasn't expecting him to leave the role until 2014/2015. I thought we'd have Series 8 be his last Series. But it turns out we've had his last Series already, and we didn't even know it. I can't imagine a single actor taking Matt Smith's place, but then again, back in 2009 I couldn't imagine anyone taking David Tennant's place either. In conclusion, lets eagerly await the announcement of who will be the Twelfth Doctor.

I really am so depressed by this news though. Matt Smith is such a brilliant actor and I've loved his portrayal of The Doctor. Now let me go back to clutching my #11 Sonic Screwdriver replica and rocking back and forth.

Hey if the theories are true and John Hurt is number 9 and messing with DW history, I don't see why they couldnt bring Tennant back

Yeah seriously doubt he'd regenerate back to Tennant. Makes no since. Hurt as the ninth Doctor makes since as he is the one who commits genocide against his own people and that's something the Doctor is ashamed of.
Question is, who will take the helm?

I've seen a lot of people pushing for Rupert Grint. Does he really need this role though?
I don't know how I didn't see this coming when they set it in motion quite a while ago. With the whole "Fall of the Eleventh"

What's interesting is f Hurt really is the ninth, and that makes Smith the twelfth, then the next is the last true regeneration correct? Also could Tennant be coming back to die again since that makes him the eleventh and Tenzalore is where the eleventh falls?

I'm sad that he's leaving, but he's had a good run.
I've heard people say that they think Hugh Laurie would make a good Doctor. I'd rather it stay as someone relatively unknown though.
Anyone think they'd ever have him regenerate into a female? Maybe the mythical ginger Doctor?
Maybe they can throw a huge WTF at us and just let him regenerate as John Barrowman....I needs me some more Captain Jack.

I'm a big fan and would love to see him continue, but I can understand his wanting to move on.
I'm really interested in seeing who will replace him though.

Maybe they can throw a huge WTF at us and just let him regenerate as John Barrowman....I needs me some more Captain Jack. John Borrowman is a series regular on Arrow as The Dark Archer/Malcom Merlin. I just don't want it to be an American. Before anyone gets mad at that, I am an American. Part of the charm is that it's a British actor. What's interesting is f Hurt really is the ninth, and that makes Smith the twelfth, then the next is the last true regeneration correct? Also could Tennant be coming back to die again since that makes him the eleventh and Tenzalore is where the eleventh falls? It has been said Time Lords can have more than 12 Regenerations. It's entirely possible that when River Song gave up her regenerations to heal the Doctor she passed on her Regenerations to him. So that right there would be about 7 extra. Also there is the idea that the Counsel had the ability to give more Regenerations, that since they no longer exist and he is the only Time Lord left he can have a much higher number. Although highly unlikely The David Tennant theory might not be too far off because if you recall The Master regenerated back to his previous form in The End of Time.

I've seen a lot of people pushing for Rupert Grint. Does he really need this role though? I really hope Rupert Grint isn't the Twelfth Doctor. Sure he was great as Ron Weasley, but I just cannot see him as The Doctor. Also, I'll be really disappointed at the BBC if they choose someone who is not British as The Doctor. Especially an American. No offense to anyone, but the show is just so quintessentially British, that any actor who plays The Doctor must be British, otherwise it just will not work.

Man, this put me down. I was hoping for one even two more seasons of Matt Smith, going to be so sad to see him leave. I hope they stick with the current Tardis design for a while longer though, since they changed it for no apparent reason last season.

I still want my Captain Jack. I agree on it not being an American. The backlash would be huge if they did that.

Gah....
Read this yesterday, horribly disappointed. I REALLY enjoyed Matt Smith. Hopefully this leads to more mainstream movie roles for him? (Like Karen Gillan being cast in Guardians of The Galaxy).
I'd be very let down if they went with Rupert Grint as the Doctor; or an American, or a woman for that matter to be completely honest.

Apparently BBC have said, the role is open to everyone, it doesnt matter on race or gender, if theyre pefect for the role then its theres
