While the Road Warriors held the WWF Tag Team Championship, I feel the WWF didn't know what to do with them. As I stated previously, the Road Warriors came in at the wrong time. The WWF's popularity was beginning to waned by the middle of 1990. Not to mention, the tag team scene was seeing a decrease in its luster and allure at the time. The WWF's tag team scene was at its peak in 1987-1988. Had the Road Warriors came in at that time, their WWF run would have been more memorable. Their run in 1997-1998 was a total abomination. Paring Sunny with the Road Warriors looked odd and out of place. I associate them as being a NWA team, not a WWF team. I will say it in many more threads here, timing is not only essential but it is crucial in the wrestling industry. excellent post. they even said on their own shoot they should have came in 88.and Animal underscored it in his own shoot. |

While I enjoyed their run from 90-92, looking back at it now it would have been amazing if they had come in 88 when the tag division was so strong. Its the same as Hogan v Flair in that it happened just that bit too late for it to be an all time great matchup.

I always thought that was pretty obvious. very obvious.its Vinces arrogance here that gets me...... he brings in POP....gives them no entrance music.....and doesn't develop their personality at all.how these two(with this approach) were gonna turn the already loud cheers away from Demolition eludes me completely.also the pathetic attempt to copy Paul Ellering by putting Humperdink with them as The Baron was laughable. I still Think LOD should have feuded with these 2 first and had a "Loser disbands" match at Summerslam 1990.it would have been better than them being quietly disbanded. The Baron was Baron Von Raschke. He didn't last long because WWF wanted him solely as a manager so he went back to AWA for their dying days to end his in ring career. And the Powers of Pain had entrance music. Their team at Survivor Series 88 entered to it. |

I remember there one SNME match that had the Warrior teaming with LOD vs. Crush, Ax and Smash. Yeah, that was in 1990 not long after the LOD came to the WWF. It wasn't that great though. It was only 5 minutes or something like that. They had a bigger collision at the 1990 Survivor Series when The Ultimate Warrior, Texas Tornado and LOD faced Mr. Perfect and Demolition. Warrior eliminated Ax, then LOD and Smash and Crush were eliminated for brawling outside the ring (double dq). LOD vs. Demolition should have been a featured match at Wrestlemania VII. Instead LOD went over Power and Glory while Smash and Crush lost to Tenryu and Kitao. Both throw away matches. |

I think part of the issue was that, in other promotions, the Road Warriors were treated like main event talent. Regardless of who the world champ was, the Road Warriors were gonna go on as the ME or damn well near it. They fueded with Dusty, Flair, Russians, Freebirds, MXP, etc. who either were ME type talent in their own right, or got elevated to ME talent by the Road Warriors.
Then they come to the WWF, and the talent and show structure is different. Vince never crosspollinated his fueds. The Tag Title storylines were always mid-card and never elevated by rub from Hogan; same with the IC title. So, I think, regardless of when they came in, they would never have reached the level of sucess that they had previously, but had they come in in 1988/89 I agree that a fued with the Demos would have been much more exciting.

in contrast, I think 1997 was the first time Vince truly elevated the tag titles and I/C title, when Owen & Davey Boy were HEAVY in the Hart Foundation versus the World fued. And it turned out to be a very exciting time for the WWF.
