I was wondering this for a while. If you look at pictures of Macho Man Randy Savage from around 2003ish it looks as if he was roided up a bit. especially the pic in my sig. So did Macho Man ever do steroids in his lifetime?

I would say definitely...he did just about every other drug that was available to him lol.

When you're constantly popping pills, shooting up with steroids and snorting coke day after day it's bound to catch up with you eventually. |

yeah I seem to remember watching a talk show interview and being kinda surprised about how candidly he talks about it.

around the 5 minute mark although the whole thing is worth watching for the madness.

for sure.....however if anyone did doubt Savage dabbled they should look at him before he left WCW in 98 and then look when he returned in 99.

They weren't illegal until 1990, and the last decade is when we began seeing the toxic effects they had on those athletes when they reached middle age. Although I'm pretty sure Macho was off the juice in your sig pic. Definition and mass are very different things. When I first saw the album cover in '03, I almost couldn't believe it was Savage. He had shrunk considerably since his WCW days, probably 40-50lbs. |

Savage was 58, considered to be a senior citizen in most medical circles. Moreover, one of the things First Aid instructors drill into their students' heads during training is that ANYONE, regardless of age or physical condition, can have a heart attack or stroke. This even applies to kids. Sometimes people don't seek treatment (and possibly die) or responders make the wrong call because it's hard to believe that the fit 25-year-old is having a heart attack. No one is immortal, so never ignore warning signs. That being said, I fully agree on your second statement. While there are a lot of bad habits, drugs top the list in how quickly they can cause lethal health issues. |

Another thing people should realize is that steroids dont just make you big when you take them. Proper diet and training your ass off do. Steroids are just a small tool that help your body repair itself quicker and grow faster and stronger, when everything else is in check. That being said, its very likely Savage neve even came off steroids but just let his diet go to crap and quit training with the same intensity. As for the ones claiming steroids are the reason he died, id have to dissagree. The risks of steroids are very overexaggerated and there is no long term research done to prove any claims at this point. The only thing you can go by at this point is the condition older guys are in now that you know have been using for a long time. Personally Id say there are a lot more doing just fine than dead. Look at Hogan, Arnold, Stallone, etc.. Weider just died and he was old as hell.
I will agree though that when combined with other drugs like coke, crack, pills, etc.. Even alcohol really.. Its an accident waiting to happen.
