Lowe's? Home Depot? Ace True Value (or whatever the heck it's called now)?
So yeah hit up one of those big retail hardware stores or even a mom & pop store. For the base to the mat/canvas I suggest using a thin sheet of plywood. Lightweight, sturdy, and easy to cut. Costs around $5 bucks for a piece.
