Hi Collectors,
I have my Jakks figures stored in plastic tubs filled with classic superstars. I travel for work and went through my boxes at home to review my collection, and I noticed half of my figures of managers and ect who have rubber jackets are starting to melt.
Does anyone know how to prevent the rubber from melting and any recommendations to store them?
what is strange is only half of them are melting while the other half is perfect, and not effected in anyway.

That is very disturbing. Maybe some of the rubber used is different. Is it only happening with the older series figures or a mix of older and newer ones?

The figrue I have that it is happening to are Rocky Michael Buffer, RA Vince, CS blue ultimate warrior with the trench coat, CS sherri's top, CS harvey wimpleman, CS howard finkel, and Demolition helmets. They are all from different series and also different types of figures.
For example, 3 pack paul bearer with red hair, brother love, gorrila monsoon, all of 4 of my jimmy harts, all 3 of my bobby heenans, eric biscoff, pink suit super star billy graham, and captain lou are all normal and just fine.

Heard of this before and I expect it to be a temperature and overcrowding type thing. Have you put your figures stacked one on top of each other? Mine are like that and well they aren't exactly melting but my Jim Ross, Bearer and suited Tazz figures are sticky to touch.

my jackets are sticky to touch too, thats what I meant as melting. But to reply to your question, I do have them stored stacked on each other in a plastic box. I keep all my collection that way in air conditioning.
Do you think it has to do with them being kept near in plastic?

Yes I think that's got to be the reason. I like you stack my figures, and should probably put them in bags or have some card separating the rows.
But yeah I reckon the soft rubber/plastic is getting stuck to the other plastic on the figures. Sucks since my RVD's singlet keeps seemingly melting/getting stripped away where it's in contact with other figures. That and the dye used on the entrance clothes leaking into other figures really pisses me off as a collector.

I got a bad feeling in 10 years any of the suited jacket jakks figures will not be around. i did get a really good suggestion from a friend to try using clothe because like you said the plastic on plastic seems to be the problem.

I hope this doesn't happen to my DCUC figures I currently have stored. I had my Mattel Goldust in storage with the rest of me WWE figures while I was moving house and now there is a big spot of paint missing off the chest which ended up smudged onto the face of my Orton figure. I too just had them stacked in a container. Definitely next time I'm going to be more careful how I store them.

Yeah it is a bitch. Just put some material to divide the stacks of wrestlers to prevent rubbing. Should be ok. I hope this doesn't happen to my DCUC figures I currently have stored. The plastic capes are of a harder plastic, and I think stand the test of time better. But I will eventually stack my figures with dividers to prevent plastic touching plastic and preserve paint jobs.

That's what is weird is they are all kept in air conditioning and half of the others aren't melted. I guess it's because jakks used cheap rubber for their jackets on managers.

I believe that Jakks used lesser quality plastic on some of these figures. I have Sherri, RA Vince, CS Warrior w/ coat, and the Demolition helmets and they are all sticky like yours. I bought CS Mr. Fuji brand new from Toysrus when he came out and the collar on his jacket was sticky right out of the package. I also have Brother Love, Gorilla, WM9 Jimmy Hart, and Paul Bearer with the cloth shirt and they are all fine. Interesting enough my Demolition helmets that came with the two pack are fine as well, it was just the single carded helmets that are degrading. My figures were stored in bins in a climate controlled closet with acid free paper between rows of figures. In my experience with this line of toys, Jakks was no stranger to cutting corners when it came to production. They must have used cheaper plastic on some of the figures. There is no way that this could not be the case if so many people are having this problem. It's a shame that figures from 2006-2007 are melting like they were made in the 70s or 80s.
