I feel like invoking Ray Stevens here, too, since Volstagg the Voluminous was portrayed to perfection, and Ray Stevens isn't even voluminous to begin with. I also never got the inkling that Volstagg was going start rage killing retaliation for his family's deaths. That's what we call range, and I'll go out on an unpopular limb and say that Affleck has got more than Bale has. Your reasoning for Affleck being a bad choice is that he already played a comic book character - thereby lending a ton of credence to the examples I gave. I didn't sway the subject - you laid it in place with your poor rationale. Show me where I ever said that using those guys for multiple roles were good choices.. Then Ill see your point Nah...I'll show you where you said that you didn't even know who I was talking about. To me, that paints a better picture. And RIP Batman? Give me a god damn break. I've said it before about the Joker and I'll say it now about Batman - one man is not bigger than an iconic, 70 some odd year old fictional character. A bad portrayal (which I doubt Affleck will even give) has never, and will never render a character irreparable.

RIP Christian Bale's increasingly awful "Audience Repellant Bat-Voice".

I like this. A lot actually.
Ben Affleck is real life friends with Kevin Smith, notorious batman fanatic and fellow nerd. Regardless if Affleck has studied the comics and the traits of Batman, Smith will likely guide him in the right direction. Besides, Snyder is going for the older-Dark Knight Returns style, so Affleck already fits this role perfectly physically.

Is Matt Damon going to play the new Robin?

LOL at the faux-fanboy rage. Ben Affleck is going to nail this role. I can't wait.

Youre stating other movies and other actors.. This is about Batman and Afleck, not any of the stuff you mentioned so I dont see how any of it is relevant at all. Oh and btw, bad choice Your reasoning for Affleck being a bad choice is that he already played a comic book character - thereby lending a ton of credence to the examples I gave. I didn't sway the subject - you laid it in place with your poor rationale. Its not just that Affleck had already played another comic book character, but he was a huge flop when he did play one.

Well, that's a surprise. I like Affleck, not so sure I ever envisioned him as Batman though. He does fit the Batman in his prime mold I guess. This ultimately is going to heavily be dependent on the story anyway. I'm not disappointed by the casting so I'll take that as a victory.

I think Affleck could pull in a good performance. I just find it hard for me to really buy him in the role. Very intrigued buy this casting non the less.

Surprising choice since I just read that Nolan was wanting Wes Bentley to play Batman.
I guess that was either wrong or Nolan didn't get his choice.
Idk about this. I guess I'll judge when I see trailers and such for the new movies *that will be a while*..

Are you kidding me??? Easy pass for me. They could easily have bought Bale's talents. Matt Damon would have been an easier take. Why not use Collin Farrell? Lets just say it and throw Sandler under the cowl. Who casts this shit?

Only bad news is it means Affleck will likely not direct the new Batman films

I'm not loving this selection either, but will reserve judgment till I see it. I dont think he can pull off Bruce Wayne, but he is a fabulous actor...so maybe. This reaction is exactly how WFigs was when Ledger was casted as the Joker. Now everyone here thinks Ledger as Joker was the greatest performance of all time. Ledger was another great actor who did not seem he could pull off the part and then he did.

Ben Affleck has grown a lot as an actor over the last decade. He's an even better director. While he isn't my first choice for the role, I think he'll do his very best in his portrayal as Bruce Wayne/Batman. We could have gotten a lot worse.

This is going to suck so bad it's not even funny.
Yeah, let's take the guy who did so much damage to Daredevil that in my LIFETIME nobody will even think about touching that character again and let's make him BATMAN, lol.
This could actually be worse than Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern too. I actually wish it would have been a no name actor.
The only positive thing that will come from this is that at all of the movie premiers and awards shows, Jennifer Garner will be at his side with her tits on full display. Other than that, this is a complete and utter fail. And no, I'm not going to "give it a chance". I hate Ben Affleck and that's my opinion.

The Heath Ledger casting should not be compared to Ben Affleck.
> Heath Ledger was a big name, but he wasn't Ben Affleck big. I think the masses have a much greater idea of Affleck's capabilities than Ledger's at the time.
> Heath Ledger has always been considered a talented actor, especially after Brokeback Mountain. Ben Affleck has always been a big joke.
> Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker was unlike any Joker previously seen in the comic books. It was a complete recreation of the character that I'm sure nobody expected. Bruce Wayne is an extremely complex character, but he will always be Bruce Wayne. In other words, Affleck's Batman is far easier to picture now than Ledger's Joker was then.
> Many were convinced Ledger couldn't play Joker. Many were also convinced Hayden Christiansen couldn't play Darth Vader... they were absolutely right. Just because a left-field casting choice worked in one rare occasion doesn't mean jack.
I think the one thing going for Affleck is that as a successful director whose career as a schlocky heartthrob is behind him, he has a LOT to prove by taking this role. A LOT. He didn't need to do this and must know full well he'll be taking a lot of crap for it. Would he accept unless he was sure he would knock it out of the park? Personally, he hasn't impressed me as an actor one bit, I'd be surprised if he turned things around now. I feel like this franchise will be aimed at a younger demographic anyway (ala the Marvel movies), so I'm sure Hollywood don't care what I think. It will make mad money regardless.

I can't wait to revisit this thread on July 17th of 2015 after Affleck crushes the role in what will otherwise probably be a pretty bad movie.

How can they choose someone that played another comic character already? Seems like a bad choice to me. I kind of feel this way if the character is in the same universe, but Affleck played Daredevil (Marvel) so I'm ok with him playing Batman (DC). If he would have been slated to play Captain America (Marvel), then I would object because of the threat to potential crossover films.
