I respect everything The Beatles did for music. Their influence and impact on the industry can't be taken away by anybody. Their songs are timeless and the group is known by virtually every generation. And they may very well be the biggest household name of all-time (only ones that come close after that are Elvis, Michael Jackson, the rest of the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, and Queen).
But I can't get into their songs at all.
Most of it I just don't like. "Hello Goodbye" is one of those songs I listen to and I seriously wondered if the group was just that good, or because they were just good at the time and the music world flocked to them instantly.
Believe me, I know everything The Beatles did. They have a bigger legacy than any musician(s) than anyone that came before or after them. But I just don't find their music as thought-provoking, heart-stopping, or life-changing as people say. I feel like their influence/impact is so huge, boy bands that came after them were immediately put under them because of how incomparable they seem to be.
So, am I mentally ill, or do I actually have a point?
NOTE: I had to change the question from "overrated" to "overhyped" because I think I confused some people with my original post.

I actually have to agree with you. I haven't listened to a TON of their music but what I have just doesn't interest me all that much. If any Beatles fans on here want to post some recommendations I'm definitely open to listening but I was just never able to get into them.

I think about 85% of their songs are good. But each to their own.

I wouldnt say overrated as much as overhyped. Were they great? Absolutely. Were they revolutionary? Sure... but The Beatles arent for everyone. Some songs I dig, some I cant stand, some I dont even know. However, I will disagree with Jackson 5, Queen and Stevie Wonder being "household names". Most people cant name another Jackson member outside of Michel except for Janet and she wasnt one of them. Id be much more inclined to put the Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra as household names first.

I wouldnt say overrated as much as overhyped. I think that's a good way to put it. I feel like The Beatles are a band that you're "supposed" to like just based on their massive popularity and contribution to the music world.

Just because you can't get into their music doesn't mean they're overrated.

As an oldies and classic rock radio jock, I probably have a slightly skewed opinion on this, but I don't think the Beatles are overrated at all. The Beatles are one of those few music groups whose music is timeless, and is enjoyed by fans of all styles and generations. Truly timeless music.
We've had conversations around the radio station offices before debating the idea of could you really see stations 15-20 even 30 years down the road playing the likes of Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, and countless other rock and pop acts the same way we still play Beatles, Zepplin, Stones, etc. today as classic rock/hits? Doubtful, but years from now the Beatles will still be a popular group.
As others have said, just because you don't like them, doesn't mean they are overrated. They are one of the most influential and popular music acts of all time, and there is absolutely no denying that.

Simply put no. Their music has and always stayed, almost relevant not to an extent were if you asked a random person on the street do they listen/like the Beatles they would all say yes but 6/10 would. In no way are they overrated.

Yes they are completely and totally overrated.
Had I been around in the 60s I'd say the same thing back then too.

Personally, they are. But I can't deny the impact they had on people and music. Why? I'm not exactly sure. I find them terrible. They're no Michael Jackson, Elton John, Queen or even Elvis.
But, 99.999% of people dig them, and that's cool. They came along at the perfect time and had the perfect style.
I simply think their music sucks.

Yes, but they're still a great band with a huge legacy of popular songs.
They mostly just came at the right place, and at the right time.

I subscribe to the Outsiders theory that you're either a Beatles guy, or you're an Elvis guy. Chalk one up for The King.

They're no different than the Backstreet Boys, N'sync, One Direction or any other boy band. Except that the ones I listed at least stuck with making simple pop music and didn't go through any weird phases of experimental garbage.
