I'm new to collecting and was wondering if somebody who has been collecting for a while can answer why Mattel's distribution of figures is so bad?

This is something I have never understood the complaining about. There has not been one thing that Mattel has put out in terms of WWE that I have not easily found at retail, except for Kevin Nash. That is the only figure I never saw. I ended up getting it from EBay for marginally more than I would have paid in stores. I don't do much hunting, and I still find everything. I even picked up Elite 23 about a week & a half ago at TRU. I think Mattel's distribution of the WWE product have been quite good. I honestly think any problems lay with your local stores.

For example why do I go to walmart, target, meijer, etc., and even though Mattel is on E23 these stores are full of and selling E18. If I see 1 more Broadus Clay (Funkasauras) E18, I going to funka-go nuts.

In follow-up to this thread I started I travel a lot for work and have the opportunity to run into a lot of various stores throughout the state. So it is not just a local thing it must be a larger problem.

I have a few E18 figs in my nearby stores, but they also have kept up with current sets. No complaints here in IL.

It's not Mattel it's the stores. Mattel doesn't ship directly to each store. They ship it to each stores main warehouse/distribution center. And then each companies distribution centers devive the shipment to all the other regions distribution centers who the ship it to the stores in that region. All Mattel does is ship what each company orders and then it's up to that company to distribute it. Mattel has no control oh how much a company orders or how it is distributed after they filled the order.

Distribution has been great in 2013. I just think this hobby is getting bigger and bigger. There is also no denying that it depends on your area. What grade stores do you have? A, AA, or AAA? Higher volume stores are usually gonna get the good stuff. There's 400k people in my city. Within 30 minutes I can visit 6 WM's, 6 Kroger Mktplaces, 3 KM's, 2 Targets, 2 Gordmans, 2 Meijers, 2 Big Lots, 1 Sears and 1 TRU.

I don't like that here in the UK we don't get any exclusives except from BAFs like a few months after they are released in the US.

In follow up to this thread I started I think a good example is new video games. Madden 25 comes out and you know the stores are going to have it and most stores have more than enough stock to satisfy demand. Why can't the stores/mattel do that when they release a new series?

That is not a good example. Video games have street dates, like movies and CDs. They are released nationwide at all stores on a set date. Toys don't work like that.

Apples and oranges. These are toys yes, but they are considered collectibles. And they are not anywhere near in demand as much as a video game. Games are released on a set date, worldwide. Are you high? Walking into TRU and seeing 40 of each fig would make it less fun imo. Besides it been 10 days since E23 hit retail. 10, maybe 9 days. I'm as frustrated as the next guy when I stop 7 places and walk out with nada. Believe me. But let's be realistic.

Just 1 basic Brodus and theye claimed to put the order in for me 3 times already 1 Target- they are usually up to date 1 Biglots- 5 DM steamboats on the shelf for the last year. Nothing else

But my TRU and the TRU an hour from me are the 2 absolute worse TRU's on planet Earth.

I live in a city with over 100K people and we have a Walmart, Target and two Shopkos. We have two scalpers living here, plus maybe a few casual collectors and a couple dozen kids who pick up the Cenas and the rest if theres leftovers. (Its weird how i know this but ive seen the people who go into the aisles repeatedly) Our city has had (since ive been collecting) four Elites series skipped. I've never seen E16, E18, E20 or E21 in my town. They send one case of basics to my Target and that's about it. If I missed it I typically don't get another shot at it unless I find it online. Shopko is Targets "special" brother so I usually don't count them because of the scalper employees in the back. My two Shopkos combined have SIX E15 MYSTERIOS. Shopko hasn't had an entire basic series in stock since B9. Since then it's just been signature series garbage. It's either hit or miss in my town.

As far as E22 goes, I'm surprised at how plentifully it's been stocked around me. If E23's anything like that, I'll be very happy.

They usually get 2 cases total for each series so I do well as long as I stop by everyday. Today Im going to have to drive about 45 min to Savannah in hopes to find the rest of E23 at TRU. I would wait for them to hit Target but figured I should get them at TRU just in case the Mankind mail away deal.. Waiting now for them to call me back after they finish unloading the truck and hold the figs for me.
