So I got a brand new 32" Sony Smart TV the other day. Last night I discovered it has a dead (gray/black) pixel.
I'm at a loss of what to do here, because as it is this TV was an exchange for another TV that had another stuck pixel as well as screen burn. On the new TV I've so far tried fixing the dead pixel with this program called UDPixel. It's quite strange because when I put the special window over the dead pixel to try fixing it, when you stand up you can still see the dead pixel as if moves depending on your eye's view... it's almost like it's not a dead pixel, but rather a piece of dust or something trapped UNDERNEATH the screen.
I could probably return the TV, but I've heard stories of people doing that, only to discover that their replacement TV also has dead pixels, or even worse than what the original was. Apparently dead pixels are very common and I'm not sure if I should even be fussing over this.
From 4 or 5 feet away from the TV I can't even see the dead pixel, but the problem is I often like to sit close and go on my desktop computer, and I also play Hockey on PS3, and this dead pixel is quite visible on a white hockey rink screen from up close.
I've heard of these problems fixing themselves once the new TV is "broken in" well enough, but I don't know how to do that.
Any advice, or any experience you have with dead pixels?

I guess I should mention it's an LED TV?
Even if you don't have advice, what do you think about my situation? What would you do in my shoes? Has it happened to you before or currently?

Smart TV's aren't worth it to begin with.
A dead pixel won't fix itself over time. Have you ever had a dead light bulb come back to life? Just take it back to the store. If you bought something and it has a defect, it's not like you aren't justified.

Well the main problem is you bought a Sony. Unless it says "Playstation" afterwards, you couldnt pay me for anything Sony, especially a TV.
As everyone has said though, its new and a defect. Take it back to the store and explain to them what the deal is. They may tell you to contact Sony (God help you if so) but either way there should be a warranty that covers it since its new.

You should trade in for an LG if you want something truly qualify in a television. The money you save buying a standard LED TV without all that "Smart" shit, you can buy a Roku box and be better off. But no matter what, NEVER buy RCA. For that matter, avoid Emerson, Element, Vizio and Sanyo. And like the other guy said, if its not play station, Sony.

Just bring it back to the store within a few days and you'll be alright

Well yeah, I did buy the extended 4 year warranty with the store.
But I'm still in the first 15 days or whatever, so technically I should be able to exchange it if 'for any reason I am not satisfied'. One time I bought an Aspire One netbook and MicroCrap hadn't set up the Internet connection properly, and the same store gave me a new one without even really looking at the other (which they then took back). Of course, the same problem still happened with the next one so I had to figure out to change the setting myself. :-)

Well yeah, I did buy the extended 4 year warranty with the store. What store was it? Futureshop Canada. I have to admit I have VERY good warranty experiences with them. I've done like 6 of them including repairs. Then usually fix whatever the problem is, or give you a new one, as long as you sit tight and wait for a few weeks. But if you're in the first 15-30 days (forget which it is) you can pretty much get your money back or a replacement for no reason whatsoever.

If their customer service is that great you should definitely just talk to them and see what they can do. Particularly considering the fact that you do have a reason.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I'll post here how this turns out. But... does everyone agree I should get an LG? What about Samsung? From what I see on the Futureshop site, if I go for LG, then it will have to be a Smart TV. Note I cannot go bigger than 32". I'm already having trouble fitting my PVR on the desk.

That being said, Samsung IS still a kickass TV brand. I'd say either Samsung or LG would do you fine.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to keep a brand new TV with a dead pixel. I would certainly return it, even if it's just one.
As far as brands to consider when dealing with LED TVs, I usually rank them as follows...
1. Samsung 2. Panasonic 3. LG/Sony 4. Vizio
I don't necessarily think the hatred for Sony here is entirely warranted. I have a 32" Sony LCD from 2008 that still runs strong and looks great. I upgraded last year to a 3D Panasonic, but I gave the Sony to my parents for their bedroom.
If I was dropping a ton of cash on a TV now, though, I'd be looking at the high end Samsung sets.
Although each brand has its distinct advantages and disadvantages, but most aren't things you'll ever really notice on a 32" TV.
If we were talking plasma, nothing will come close to a Panasonic.

Am I the only one who would never notice a dead pixel?

Lol at the Sony bashers. Nike and Microsoft suck too
And I have a Vizio LED in our bedroom and its fabulous.
You do know that all the smaller companies you names.....Emerson, Vizio, Sanyo, etc they are owned/made by a bigger, better brand right?
But I think Samsung is the best.
