Anyone else have them? I swear I haven't had a good night's sleep in a week because I keep waking up with nightmares. Sometimes I wake up scared to death but can't remember what I was dreaming about. I just wake up with a feeling of horror and fear. I'm hot and sweaty and my heart is pounding but I have no clue why. Other times I have honest to goodness nightmares and wake up terrified and can't get back to sleep. I toss and turn for 30-45 mins and finally pass out just to wake up in terror again.
I've tried prayer/meditation. Didn't work. I tried exercise (10 miles on my bike) and that made no difference. I woke up twice last night with two different nightmares. Any advice? The lack of sleep is starting to wear on me.

I probably do. But for some reason, I only remember the dreams I have once or twice a year. I wish I had cool dream/nightmare stories to share with people. When I do remember them, they are usually very dull.

I used to suffer from night terrors as a child.

I haven't had a nightmare in years. When I was 6 or 7 my Nan bought me a 'dream catcher' and I haven't had one since. I don't believe in that stuff, and it was probably a psychological thing when I was a kid. Nice to never have nightmares though.
I did once have a dream that the super mutants from Fallout 3 were invading my friends house. They burst through the door to the living room, one shot me in the head and I instantly woke up. The weird thing was that I then went back to sleep and had the exact same dream, except for this time I knew what was going to happen, and used it to get a gun and then escape. The dream then carried on for a bit as I got into a vault which turned out to be my local shopping mall, although I didn't realise it in the dream.

I had a nightmare the other night that a woman was chopping off my arms and legs while I was fully conscious. Then she cut me open and started pulling out my internal organs one by one. Blood everywhere. I'm still conscious. Then I woke up terrified. I thought I outgrew this crap years ago.

I have PTSD, so I had nightmares every night for years. I am medicated now. I don't remember the name of the medicine in on, but it's a vey high dosage. Now I don't dream, at all. I could pm you the prescriptions name when I get home if you want.

I get them every once in a while but they are never supernatural.
9 times out of 10 they are work related.

I could pm you the prescriptions name when I get home if you want. I don't know if I want to go the medicated route. To me that's pretty extreme. If you've got PTSD, then you're already at the extreme of course and I'm sure you didn't just get there overnight. I would love to find some solution that's not so extreme. Strangely enough they all seem to center around women. I have no clue at all what that means. No women in particular (though one of my nightmares last night featured a particular woman). I wonder if I should go have my head shrunk.

I will sometimes have a nightmare but not all the time. Last week i had one were all the people at my high school were making fun of me and my high school football coach was yelling at me. (I have been out of high school for 5 years).
Most of my dreams have something to do with mickie james or wwe kaitlyn.

It's been a long time since I had a nightmare. My brother read somewhere if you sleep while looking up at the ceiling you'll get a nightmare, so I just sleep on my side and haven't gotten a nightmare since.

I don't have many nightmares but they always involve cannibalism. People being devoured alive by other people right in front of me. Blood everywhere, bile, I wake up sweaty usually.

If you're married (or living with a female) this might not work but make it as cold as you can stand in your bedroom. There use to be the folktale that Cold air gave you nightmares but that's completely false. Colder air will actually "thicken" your blood flow to the brain (obviously not drastically unless you're sleeping outside in Alaska) and basically "slows" the brain down. Not sure if I explained that right but when I sleep at my girls place (which her bedroom is about 99°), I never sleep well, constantly wake up and while I dont necessarily have nightmares I have frequent dreams and thoughts about random stuff. When she's at my place, which I keep my AC on 70° max. My head hits the pillow and within 10-15mins Im out and I dont wake up until my alarm clock goes off.

I have the same issues when i'm stressed. takes for ever to get to sleep, finally do but I want up scared/lost/angry... try to go back to sleep and lay there until I pass out. never had it happen when I wasn't stressed. maybe find something really soothing to you before bed.

What do you do for a living? It could be related if you are in the armed forces or the medical field. It's nothing you did to yourself but it's something you develop from seeing so much the average person never sees.

I usually have bad dreams when I'm stressed out. Has anyone here had dreams where they can fly? I've had quite a few and they are the best.

Not for a long time. Generally they would be anxiety based dreams usually relating to work, being late or losing a job etc. Other times I would have no clue what the dream was about but I'd wake up worried as hell, taking me a minute to realise that I was awake.
I've had maybe one or two bad dreams this year but can't really remember what they were about.
