I'm a 26 year old man child who plays too. I think we're mighty similar. I use elites. Just for sharpshooters and figure fours and what not is where the difference is night and day.
Ps elite scale ring is boss if you have room for it.

You'll get loose little pieces that cause rattling noises with extended play. You know, for some reason two of the t-shirt figures from the basic line that I've gotten have had loose rattling bits in their torsos. It was on the larger mold, both my B29 SCSA and John Cena in green from the first Wal-Mart wave. They're both really loose, too. Nothing like that has happened in the second wave of Wal-mart figures, though.

I play with my figures nearly everyday;which are both Elites & Basics, and they're really durable, I've never even had one break on me.Sometimes I wonder how you people can snap a figure as soon as it's out the box when I do figure fours and they don't break. lol I've broken two figures before I realized why they snapped. The first was a ringside Cactus, I took it out of the packaging and moved the legs and both snapped off very easily. A few days later I was moving and left my figures in a box in my car when it was hot, then the temps dipped down below freezing that night and I brought them in the next morning. My Elite Barret snapped the same way. I realized that both were from high to low temperature shifts. You have to be careful about that, any new figures that are stiff should be heated and moved around just to prevent this.

I just use whatever i think the best representation of the characters are for my company KWF, It's a mix of mostly Ruthless Aggression, Deluxe Aggression, Deluxe Impact, Mattel Basic and Mattel Elite.
Not sure what these other peeps are saying about the Elites, but i play with them regularly and they've never broken on me and they're still great for display despite long matches (I usually do 6 minutes for regular shows and 10-20 minutes for PPV's)
A Mattel figure has never broken on me since i started collecting in 2011, so i'd say go for those above all else. (I'm actually looking to phase out my Basics/Battle Packs in favor of Elites eventually. Time and money consuming process but i feel they're more realistic and more moves can be done with them, So Mattel Elites are the most fun to play with and you can do the most moves in my opinion, get them.)

I'm not a huge fan of how stiff the posture is, either. This one looks like the old original basic molds, where everybody was postured rigidly. If you need an example of what I mean, take Triple H or Batista or anyone sharing that mold and look at the trajectory of the spine versus Kofi Kingston's new mold or David Otungs/Darren Young's new mold with the relaxed curve to the spine. I'm glad to see Mattel evolving on the sculpts and realizing that basic articulation doesn't have to look basic.

i collect elites mainly and i find that the older figures seize at the hip ball joint. to the point where it gets scary to lift the leg for a kick because it is putting up so much resistance.

If we are strictly talking about durability with the WWE Mattel line; go with basics. If you play with the elites, all of the additional articulation (in the torso and legs) makes the figure more likely to get seriously loose with play.

Any kind just be careful, don't bash em together be Realistic, not Toss Punk off the turnbuckle landing on Lesnar and pretend he did an elbow drop, do it right or don't play.

Rumblers! Definitely more economical. I think I beat all of you. I'm a 36 year old man child. But rumblers take a beating and for your purpose I think they just may work. They have rampage rumblers which are similar to hasbro with slamming/punching/jumping action. The only maybe downside is there is currently only about 50 different wrestlers but all the main ones are present Bryan, Orton,Punk, Lesnar,Show,Kane,Cena,Triple H, Ziggler, Sheamus, Kingston,Del Rio,Taker,Swagger,Cesaro to name a few and legends like Macho man,Warrior, Austin, Rock, Booker T, Goldust, Michaels. Not to mention they don't take up much room but that's my two cents!

Alright, I wanted to follow up on this. I hit the stores the morning after I wrote this thread and bought several of the basics because that's all they had available. Now, I really like them but for actually playing matches they aren't too good. I really like how solid and sturdy they feel, but the posture is too stiff from the waist down and there's not a lot you can do with them. I think I'm going to buy a couple elites off Amazon just to see if it feels any different. Also, the elites seem to have a better selection of legends which is more what I'm looking for.
The last WWE figures I actually played matches with were the original Jakks Superstars line "with bone crunchin' action" and as I recall they were pretty good for playing. The only thing bad about them was sometimes they had loose joints straight out of the box which was very frustrating.
I'm going to check out the Rumblers. Great comments, everyone!
