Possibly my favorite card (on paper) of the year is less than a month away. The Heavyweight title will be on the line when Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos meet for the third time. Both Cain and Junior have wins over each other, spanning back to November 2011, when Junior knocked out Velasquez in the first round. The rematch took place at UFC 155 in Vegas, where we saw utter dominance for 5 rounds as Cain beat Junior to earn a unanimous decision, as well as regaining back the UFC Heavyweight championship. Huge fight, a lot of changes need to be made for both guys this third time and I am actually very excited to see it. The co-main event also features Heavyweights as #9 ranked HW Roy Nelson takes on #2 ranked Daniel Cormier. These two have had a little back and fourth over Twitter and had some interesting things to say leading up to this fight. Roy is coming off a bad loss to Stipe Miocic and is looking to bounce back to his winning ways. DC is undefeated and is coming off (possibly) the biggest win of his career when he defeated Frank Mir by unanimous decision. After this fight, Cormier will move to the Light Heavyweight division, where he hopes to take on champion Jon Jones for the title. UFC 166 "VELASQUEZ VS. DOS SANTOS III", 10/16/2013 (PPV/Fox Sports 1/Facebook.com Stream/YouTube.com Stream) Toyota Center, Houston TX

lombard down to 170 too... that should be a good fight vs marquardt. every fight on this card is sick. oliveira on the facebook prelims... i know hes been in a bit of a slump, but look at those losses... edgar and swanson at 45 and cerrone and miller at 55. and hes still only 24.

Love the card. Hopefully JDS gets back the title.

It seems from everywhere that I'm the only one that hasn't written JDS out. I still think these two are about equal, and that this will be a helluva fight.

I think we'll most likely see a repeat of the second fight.

Based off of the 2nd round in the Hunt fight, I'm curious to see how much JDS has worked on his wrestling.
I still think Cain has the speed advantage, and without a bum knee like the first fight, I see that being the difference maker.

I think Junior can defend a few takedowns, but in a 5 round fight against Cain, its tough.

...did I just hear JDS say "he (Cain) hits like a girl" on the Primetime show? Wow, lol.
It's hard to see any other result than a big win by Cain again... I thought his win (a five round domination) was much more impressive than JDS' first round/quick KO - Cain just didn't seem himself that night (...I'm sure I read that he would have pulled out of that fight if it hadn't have been the debut Fox show...).

Really looking forward to this card - even the pre-lims are great. I'm hoping for a big win by Cormier (...never been a big Nelson fan) and I'd like to see Sanchez pull off the upset... don't think he will though. And remember all the hype over Hector Lombard? People were saying he's the next big thing at MW and might even be the man to beat Silva... now 3 fights later, he's on the pre-lims.

It's not like the prelims aren't gonna be aired on TV... I hate that logic these days. "OMG HES ON THE PRELIMS!"... They air everything now.

I don't think he meant now that he's on the prelims they aren't going to show his fight. Fighting on the prelims in still a step down in terms of the amount of media attention you receive and probably sponsorship money too. That's surprising considering how much hype he had behind him, plus the amount he's getting paid too. Either way, should be a fun fight.

Think he had to renegotiate after those disappointing performances.
I just wanna see the dude fight. I hardly pay attention to hype nowadays anyway.

Not sure if he renegotiated for this fight, but his reported payout for his last 3 fights were all 300K. He's currently one of the highest paid UFC fighters on the roster.
Other than the main event, I'm really looking forward to Melendez/Sanchez. I think that's the top candidate for fight of the night. Melendez will probably be too much for Sanchez, but Sanchez looked in fantastic shape at the weigh in. If Gil wins, the next logical fight would be him vs TJ Grant for the next title shot (most likely after Aldo/Pettis, which seems likely if both guys retain their titles).

I still think Lombard/Nate should be on ppv over Gabe/Jordan but seeing as I don't have the money to order, I won't complain being able to see it for free..

Yeah, I just meant after all the hype and money, it's surprising to see him on the pre-lims, rather than PPV... It's a really interesting fight though - pretty tough to call. And yeah, Melendez/Sanchez could be FOTN... can't wait (Sanchez really ought to bring the "YES!" chant back too ).
